Speaking of videogames, my wife just gave me Dragonball Xenoverse as a gift...
...To celebrate my new job I just got hired at yesterday. Soon as the drug test and background check clear, my months of joblessness are over! In the meantime I'm loving this game.
Fighting based 3D Action RPGs are apparently a hidden dream I never knew I wished for!

A sexy naked dream, apparently.
Gripes about DBX:
1. They skip Cui, Zarbon, Dodoria, Android 16, and more...but include Cell Jrs., Saibamen, and characters from obscure non-canon sources. Major boo too that.
2. No creatable half-Saiyans or non-human earthlings, such as the dragon men or anthropomorphic animals from the original DB.
3. Not enough create a character freedoms. I want "Wrestling videogame" levels of creativity.
4. Too much grinding to unlock stuff. Way too much.
5. The level transitions are clunky and could be more fluid.
All that said its good fun, even on previous generation systems like the 360! Love that they got the voice actors and did new art, but (another gripe) the lip syncing is terrible, and at times they don't even try and have characters who are apparently ventriloquist masters as they don't even open their mouths in CG scenes.

I'm ambivalent about which one was "better" - comparing the two is akin to comparing Macbeth to The Illiad: by this point, they're both considered masterpieces for their times and cultures, they both have excellent points and flaws, and various arguments about which one is superior just kind of come off as attempts to out-nerd each other.
I never developed a connection to P:T that I did to
FFIIIFF6 because I didn't play it. But I've become aware of it, it's major cultural impact, and how it's influenced pretty much everything we take for granted today... exactly like FF6.And because of those, you can't really pick between them. Well, you can, but it's usually just which one you happen to like better, personally. And there's nothing wrong with that.
(But, uh, Diablo II, no matter how important it was, did not age well. It's not terrible, it's just... it's just so samey. I don't remember it being so samey. It's fun, but... huh. It's kind of like Nox, only harder and with more randomization/less strictly coherent story/less humor.)
Man, I show up to hang out with youse guys and I see hatin' on M:TG players, and now Tactics bashing on DII!!

Edit: Also I'm 99.9% sure it'll just devolve into a pro Facebook thing ("so you have enough time to pretend you're not Brad Pitt, but you can't sign on and post a few pictures and update at least six times a day, I'm also going to send you Doonesbury cartoons every f++%ing day") I'm not ready for that, not until Thanksgiving, at least.

For the record, I loved D2 back in the day. Now it's just kind of... okay. It's still brilliant, but it's not as fun. These are, I think, important distinctions.
This was one of my former boyfriend's favorite games. He had a giant list of mule characters, traded frequently with others, and had an item duplication hack. It was quite fun playing with him since he would equip me with the best gear for my level before we started. He was one of the few people to master the Bowazon character, but I think his favorite was his Necromancer who he could win ANY fight with. I just played a Sorceress or three. My best character was my Ice Sorceress who could literally slay anything on the board that wasn't immune to Ice. If it had Ice immune I had to take sidekick role and rely on my much weaker fire or lightning. If it was magic immune I had to hide behind my boyfriend's hoard of undead.

Nobody noticed, and HR, as such doesn't exist.
Safe Search was on, and I didn't search for images or click on any links, so I'm pretty safe, I think/hope.
For the most part, out of three seasons, I've found Bob's Burgers to be... okay.
Sometimes, though... sometimes it can be surprisingly great.
S3, E21 (Boyz 4 Now), and S3, E22 (Carpe Museum) were both surprisingly good.
I say "surprisingly" because they both focus heavily on Louise - a generally odious character who does terrible things (don't get me wrong; the voice actress - Kristen Schaal aka Mable from Gravity Falls - is amazing, but the character is obnoxious, rude, and often quite monstrous in her own way), yet she is undeniably charismatic (again, pointing directly at Ms. Schaal's skill, I think) and both of these episodes serve to humanize her very, very well - plus both of them have her doing something fundamentally selfless for her family or friends (if trying to complain about it the whole way).
Similarly, I found S1:E13 Torpedo, S2:E2 Bob Day Afternoon, and S3:E3 The Deepening to be a really solid episodes - most of which deal with and show the family sticking together after some sort of moral crisis, ultimately deciding to do the right thing, no matter what (the last, The Deepening really being the only exception there).
In the end, I think I like Bob's Burgers most when it reminds me more of Futurama and less when it reminds me of The Simpsons - that may seem an overly fine distinction to draw, especially considering that it's about two shows created by Matt Groening, but it's a strong enough distinction in style and presentation that I think it bears up under scrutiny.
I don't always like the morality of the Belchars, and I certainly don't always like the supporting cast, but I find Bob relatively acceptable (though he's a bit weak-willed for my preferences - I suspect that hits too close to home to be entirely comfortable :/) and Tina is probably the most moral person of the Belchar family (if least charismatic and most easily cowed due to a mixture of low self-esteem and lack of genuine assertiveness; also she has her own issues, obviously), while I find the others have good traits and bad ones, but also exaggerated irritating traits.
In the end, the Belchars most often default (after making mistakes and regretting them) back to being (mostly) good (well, sort of decent) people. Pesto's twins and Jimmy Jr., Josh, and Mr. Ambrose are pretty good.

Ah, then you'd never survive the Bay Area.
We take pride in the uselessness of our public transportation: For 40 years we had 7 counties bordering the bay, NONE of whom would cooperate on public transit.
I seem to recall back in the 1970's I would have had to ride 3 different buses to go 12 miles.
It's significantly improved, but you still want to take the bus or the ferry, NEVER BART.

I also find it interesting that I hated Bob's Burgers so much it killed our "Sunday night viewing night" (The Simpsons, then whatever dreck they were trying to popularize with it, though the first season of Family Guy was brilliant before it plummeted off a cliff.)
I hated Bob's Burgers so much that when someone tried to get me to watch Archer, I didn't like *it* solely because of the voice actor.
I finally learned to stop hating and LOVE Archer.
Still hate Bob's Burgers. That. Much.
I don't think I actually enjoyed an episode Bob's Burgers until sometime part way through season one, and then it wasn't until Torpedo that I actually liked any of the Belchars (when it became less Simpsons meets meh-Family Guy* and more Futurama-esque without the actual future-part).
There are so many episodes of Bob's Burgers that I almost like - and almost like a very great deal -, but are ultimately held back by themselves (or, if you prefer, by myself/my tastes) at the very end, or with their attempted twist at humor or that last attempted "twist" for "the joke" at the end. S2:E1 The Belchies was that way: yeah, we knew the joke was coming, and they tried to satirize their own joke with the song at the end, and it was kind of funny, but it also was kind of heavy-handed and came off as condescending towards both the audience and the characters... plus the twist (the character losing out on something valuable that they both wanted and, ultimately, needed) came from an out-of-character moment, a broken aesop that really didn't mean anything in-character and that was just a kind of incomprehensible conclusion. But finding the gold would have (hypothetically) resolved too many of the Belchars' problems in life and validated Louise's antics too much... yet the problem was, of course, that it was real and they really had it.
So it's frustrating at the same time it was potentially entertaining. It's a curious thing.

I don't like Bob's Burgers... I don't hate it. The episodes are just a waste of time in my opinion. I reserve my hate for shows truly deserving of it like Death Note. A show should accomplish something like making you feel an emotion or being a thoughtful reflection of something else. Bob's Burgers fails on all counts.

Hm. Never actually watched much of King of the Hill - usually I found it kind of slow and uninteresting - but I didn't watch it too much because I didn't have easy access to television at the time. Still, never found the episodes too engaging.
I don't like Bob's Burgers... I don't hate it. The episodes are just a waste of time in my opinion. I reserve my hate for shows truly deserving of it like Death Note. A show should accomplish something like making you feel an emotion or being a thoughtful reflection of something else. Bob's Burgers fails on all counts.

I actually think there are some solid episodes of Bob's Burgers, but many are "iffy" - the openings and closings are consistently very cleverly made, though. I have to give them that!
I also do like S4 so far. So I have to grant CY that, too!

For me, it's always been the Barbarian, none others need apply. Granted, I wasn't an "optimized" two-handed hammer player -- two swords, all day, leading into the Frenzy tree. And that was before I even crystallized the concept/idea of Syrus Terrigan (short sword TWF skirmisher with a dash of "dark side" cleric-ness).
I've played every class, but the Amazon was bottom of the barrel. Paladin was cool, if a little too rail-roady in terms of gear; the Druid and a big axe was always fun; even got a Sorceress up to level 78 or so.
And you wanna talk about muling?? Darth Narsus (Phalanx-brother, for those of you who recall the anecdote over at Tac's thread) and I farmed so much gear over about 14 months it'd make your head spin. Then the patch murdered his saved characters, and we haven't played since (that was quite the drama-infused day, and his overreaction is probably what made the data unrecoverable, but I'm not tech-savvy at all).
But, you're right, Tac -- once you get to about level 60, that XP grind is a drag.

We enjoyed King of the Hill, but I think saying it was just a pleasant way to pass a Sunday evening is absolutely true.
Both Bob's Burgers and later Family Guy episodes relied too much on just being obnoxious and disgusting, rather than trying for anything actually clever or original.
Family Guy, season 1:
"I don't know why we ever bought that moat."
"Well, it keeps the Black Knight at bay." . A hilarious non-sequitor that had NobodysWife and I laughing our butts off.
Family Guy, season 2:
"I said 'poop', made a sexual reference, and talked about a woman's time of the month in derogatory terms, and I'm only a toddler. Isn't that hilarious?"
No. Not really. Being foul for the sake of pushing the edge of what you can get away with on TV is not "humor". It's just being foul. They do it for shock value, and it doesn't shock me. It just turns me off.

Bob's Burgers actually has moved away from the disgusting aspects (though it was only a few scenes that were like that, to be fair) from the first season, you should give it another try.
I will say, we turned it off the first time we saw it, Pea Bear didn't really get into it until season three. We've gone back and watched earlier episodes.
I like how it's evolved since the beginning, they didn't get stuck in Family Guy's schtick. :-)
As for DII, for me it was (in order of favor):
- necromancer
- amazon, paladin, and/or sorceress
- druid
- assassin and/or barbarian
I tried really hard to love the assassin. I really, really did. I thought it would be a favorite class, and it seemed like it should have been. It... it wasn't.
In my play-throughs, sorceress and paladin were, by far, the most powerful. Necromancer was awesome, and it always seemed like it should have been the best, but it never quite lived up to its own potential - I mean, I won, yeah, but still.
Amazon, druid, and barbarian were pretty easy, but I didn't really take to the last - probably aesthetic reasons more than anything else.

In totally other non-newsworthy stuff in my final 7 minutes before "work" work, we had our shortest "Dad Lib" ever last night at Skates.
The rules are simple: I start writing a story. I think of the next sentence based on the story so far, remove a few words, and have the kids fill it in. So it's basically an ad hoc Mad Lib.
Bolded words were added by the kids:
Once upon a shirt, there were 8 desert rain frogs. They were very delicious.
I had no idea how to continue from there, so we called it a "complete" Dad Lib.
The waiter pretty much figured we were insane, sitting there at the table, giggling like maniacs at a couple of sentences written in green crayon.
(They were pretty good last night, with the second Dad Lib including Knishes the Dead depressingly eating his vegetables.)

Howdy! Life has been busy in the sett, with getting our oldest settled at his new teaching job and getting our youngest to college for her sophomore year. I've also been writing a lot for freelance assignments. I have a couple of large projects to complete this weekend, and then I'll be free again to haunt the messageboards. :)

I do write myself in as a candidate for some office every election.
I try to get the General and some friends to vote also, but they almost never do.
I think once I got 3 votes.
Hm. I'm being the authority on rules somewhere for someone's redesign on d20 systems. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. I need more people. Anyone want to comment on Friendship is Dragons? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller? Beuller? Beuller? Anyone? Beuller?
