My faith in humanity is (slightly) restored.

Shiro got a call from the female car salesperson whom we'd liked: The financing fell through for the guy who was trying to buy the car out from under him, so would Shiro like to drive up and buy the car for the agreed-upon price?

He said, "Sure!", drove up, and she didn't try to upsell him or anything, just gave him the car for exactly the price she'd quoted, and even went over the purchase line by line with him to make sure he understood everything she'd charged.

So yep. As far as we can tell, since Shiro didn't put down a deposit on the car some senior sales jerk tried to steal the car out from under our salesperson, so it felt pretty darned good to give the younger salesperson a sale at the cost of denying senior guy a commission.

She didn't waste Shiro's time (even if it was some kind of con she specifically prevented Shiro from driving up until he could pick up the car), she charged exactly the original price, and gave Shiro exactly the car she said she would.

If we manage to save up enough to buy a car next year, I know who I'm calling. And isn't that worth more than ripping someone off for $3000?

EDIT: Nudity. Happiness with an honest young saleswoman. Nope. No jokes there. No jokes at all...

We did something similar when we bought our car, a junior salesman came out to talk to us when we started looking at cars and he was super nice and easy going and then this douchebag senior salesman was all like "here, come with me and I'll get you the best deal!" We said "no, we like this guy so we we don't mind paying more" ended up paying sticker price and it was his very first sale.

I feel a temptation to go and visit what I presume is El Presidente's island at the edge of the map before the free play time ends...

Our Celica will soon be a "generational car". We bought it when GothBard was 26. Impus Major turns 26 in just a few years... and the Celica's still running fine!

Was just looking to see if there was any news on if an anime I like is going to continue, when I saw the following:
"...the manga ended with chapter 409, while the most recent season of the anime covered chapters 202-292. So it is safe to say that there will be more."

"Safe to say there will be more"? I don't think so. How many anime have ended before covering all of the manga they were based on? Honestly, I don't even want to know the answer.

Almost all.

The divide between fans of a certain manga and fans of that manga's anime tend to be a bit wide, especially in the US where the release of the latter does not always means the release of the former.

Time for a discussion concerning the concept of fame and celebrity culture in the world of Hogwarts, contrasting the depictions of Harry and Gilderoy Lockhart, and bringing in the concept of broken pedestals and... well, you can see how that might be relevant on a meta level.

OR there was no secondary bidder at all and they were simply trying to get Shiro to pay more so they lied about someone offering more money in order to drive up the price.

It's a scam as old as time.

What I like about Far Cry 4.

Driving. It's simplistic but g!+$%#n if it isn't fun! Also they capture the insanity of driving in the Himalayas perfectly!

The setting, they captured the setting perfectly.

Treasure. Every time I go through someone's pocket and find vintage porn, an opium ball, and a pack of local smokes it cracks me up!

Elephant riding. Some people might say the best way to clear an outpost is to disable the alarms and snipe everyone from the bushes. Those people didn't ride in to camp on an elephant, smashing cars aside and tossing people aside while you unleash your grenade launcher on everything that moves. And yes in my head canon every elephant is named Stampy. And the best part is it's all in first person perspective so it's like watching the intro to Police Squad or Naked Gun except with an angry elephant.

What I don't like.

The crafting is tied to game hunting. Every time I have to gun down and skin a rhino or a Bengal tiger the hippie in me cried a little bit. I will definitely have to hug some trees after playing this one. Fortunately I just powered through it and now I don't have to worry about it anymore. Still, it left a sour taste.

Yeah, but they never once asked for more money. He had a deal with the younger salesperson, then got a call from the older guy, “If you don’t make a deposit right now, I’m selling the car out from under you.”

So quite possibly pressure tactics to get some money out of him, but he just said, “No,” and the guy backed off, so either sheer incompetence or not a scam. A scammer would’ve told him how long it would be before another car came in or something.

I am torn between desire to play Far Cry 6 some more before the free time is over and being somewhat tired of playing it for the last three days.

No idea how many hours I actually got because Ubisoft Connect fails to track time spent on games during free weekends (the same applied to AC: Valhalla).

I reached the presidential island by a hovercraft... And was thwarted by 3 meter walls and locked doors all around (though I haven't checked all the circumference of the walls so maybe there is a way in). I managed to take out the AA battery so I still might try to fly over the walls with a chopper later.

So... wow. Why do I build my own desktops again?

After seeing me working on parting together my and Shiro's machines into a single working machine, Impus Major indicated that he'd love to get a new desktop for his birthday.

I checked my usual build guides, and they said, "Due to supply shortages, you're better off buying a prebuilt desktop."
Both guides recommended the HP Omen 30L, so I built one to specifications...
Price: $3400... well over $1000 more than I'd spend building it myself...
Delivery: June 7, 2022

Um, no. With that kind of price tag and delay, I think randomly grabbing the component pieces will be both cheaper and faster. Let's see whether I'm right...

And no more Far Cry 6...

It's been fun.

There were some glitches, annoying bugs, and poorly thought design choices (perks on gear instead as skills? do they really think I will change gear every 10 seconds to make use of the more worthwhile skills? also, WTF is with the extremally clunky third person view in camps?!), but otherwise the gameplay was probably the most fine tuned version of FC.

In fact, playing this game felt like playing multiple Ubisoft (and not only Ubisoft) games at once.

Tropical islands (Far Cry 1, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint): check

Climbing mountains (Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal): check

Spanish speaking folks all around (Ghost Recon: Wildlands, parts of non-Ubisoft Sniper Ghost Warrior 2): check

Recovery of supply drop crates (Ghost Recon: Wildlands): check

Scrounging old bunkers for parts and gear (Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint): check

Big murder-kitty scaring away random animal encounters (Far Cry Primal): check

Carrying weird weapons jury-rigged from random parts (Metro Exodus, not an Ubisoft game): check

Running around pleasant old style Mediterranean-like buildings and villages (Ghost Recon: Wildlands, not-Ubisoft Sniper Elite 4 and Just Cause 3): check

A pompous dictator... (Far Cry 4, Just Cause 3): check

... that wants to use a suspicious technology to finance his regime (Just Cause 3): check

Poor, mostly agrarian country (Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3): check

Weird laboratories where stuff happen (Far Cry 1, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 1, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2—which I am going to finish next, I am in the middle of last mission and only stopped for free dose of Far Cry, Metro Exodus): check

I am pretty sure I could go on and on.

Yep. I seem to recall that...

Funny thing:

Ghost Recon: Wildlands had atrocious ground vehicle controls, and somehow tolerable plane controls...

Far Cry 6 has decent ground vehicle controls and terrible plane controls (helicopters are better and work decently as transports but they are still not really suitable for aerial combat or air-to-ground combat).

He has FIVE separate writing assignments from three of his four instructors due this week.

I am going to strongly encourage him to write letters of complaint to the appropriate deans.

I don't suppose the assignments are to write letters of complaint, as that would kill two birds with one stone.
