Thanks I'll likely need all the luck I can get.

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver
Song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams
Be tossed and blown.
Walk on
Walk on
With hope in your hearts
I And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone.
Walk on
Walk on

The storm is so big that we will probably start getting the outer bands (sustained winds 39+ mph) around 2000 tonight and continue until tomorrow night, getting stronger as the eye reaches us. The winds should increase until they are sustained over 75 mph with gusts up to one hundred mph as the eye approaches. My only other hurricane, Isabel in 2003, is going to look like a cake walk compared to this I think. This thing is HUGE! We started getting wind and rain around 11am today, and we are just below it!
I would send it your way if I could. I know you need the moisture.

By the way... did I mention that I laid down the new bike last weekend?
Nothing major, was pulling into one of the biker bars that were on our route, (No drinking had been done at this point) and slipped off the narrow concrete path (read: sidewalk) and onto a patch of soft dirt. I had a passenger at the time which threw off my balance a bit and over we went.
She got off safely. But I strained my still injured left knee trying to keep everything upright.
Pain. Cursing. Falling.
No damage done to the bike, but I really hate to think what that knee is going to feel like in 5 years...
Hopefully it's not tricksy like my knee is.

I'm much relieved here in NY.
Couple the many huge trees looming around my house on a hill with the supersaturation of the soil due to recent rains and I was sincerely worried about maintaining my home's non-flattened status.
And the french drains and pumps in the basement handled the downpour sans flooding. Bone dry. Unlike my friends who lives within 45 minutes, I didn't lose power.
I can't figure out if I should take the duct tape off the window tonight or leave it there to remind me I seriously need to replace these 40 year old windows.

The Downside, my older brother is in the hospital. Still no change in his condition.
The Upside, The house has been strangely quiet and I have no moral need to share cable with anyone.
The Downside, A hot week of 110+ degrees heat with sparse rainfall.
The Upside, the power still works and I have several running fans to keep me company.
The Downside, productivity is down on graveyard shift do to a lack of sleep.
The Upside, IHOP has a tasty selection of pancakes.
The downside, boredom and not enough initiative to perform impending chores in the time off allotted from work.
The upside, plenty of books to read, especially the stack I brought back from Gen Con.

Glad to hear our friends in the Northeast have been spared the worst of the storm (well, except for the power outage--hope that gets fixed soon, Patrick).
BP, I hope your brother recovers. More prayers and good thoughts going your way.
I've got a job interview about 3 miles from my house in NC. It would be nice to get the job and move back, but I at least like the job I'm at now, so I do have the luxury of evaluating the company while they do the same with me.
Stay dry everyone!

In their defence, can you imagine the s@$#-kicking they'd taken if things had turned even a little bit Katrinaish and they'd acted in a way that meant it might have looked like they didn't treat this as Very Serious Stuff Indeed?

Better to been seen as over protective than even giving the perception of overconfidence.

So, for me at least, it shouldn't be as bad as originally intended. Should be on a scale with Isabel. Widespread damage and short term power outages (hours to days) for some and long term (days to weeks) for others. But, any potential danger has been greatly diminished.
Thanks

No staying power in this one, just lots of rain and a lil wind. We made it through jsut fine with just 5 trees, and 3 power lines downed, and lots of small branches all over the roads. Noone seriously hurt and the flooding is already receding.
I hope you guys remain safe and she continues to diminish.
Boss on his way in, gotta run, but wanted to say hi.
Thanks. I got my power back earlier today and just got access to the net back.

S#%~ man, you’ve had a bad run of luck of late. Do you have some sort of insurance on your card, or a bank that’s reasonable enough to realise that it wasn’t you using your card?
