I had like, I don't know... 14 paragraphs written here I was going to toss into a spoiler? Here's the gist:

My girls are teenage girls, so there's that challenge. On top of that their parents divorced about 5 years ago. Now dad's a mess of depression and anxiety, and mom is all about the FUN of parenting with none of the WORK.

I'm not perfect. I'm not even properly done processing the divorce. I recognize though that we're a family in crisis and I'm trying... REALLY trying, dammit, to pull it together every day. School meetings, cops at the door, declarations of sexuality, new job successes, all of it; I'm always there for them and trying to be enough.

The girls deserve a parent they can count on. Like it or not, out of the 2 of us... I'm the one they get.

So my girls are very "extra" to borrow vernacular from when they were obsessed with Vine a million years ago. But they're MY girls, and I love them, and I'm trying to live up to what they deserve so yeah, sometimes I'm pretty chill about the dishes in their room, or getting home 4 minutes after curfew, or leaving the porch door open in the rain while they're ruining a faux fur blanket in the back yard (don't ask).

I only ask that a few years from now, during their first televised court appearance, my girls throw me a wave from under the orange sleeves.

And NH, I don't just envy you for your kids. I envy you for the same reason I'm jealous of LM, or lots of folks on these boards I fanboy over. You've all been THROUGH the storm and come out whole on the other side, if a bit scarred. LM keeps running; NH STILL puts political stuff up in these threads even though we were so politely reminded by a certain Captain not to.

Me? Let's just say... I'm not where you folks are, and leave it at that.

I hope at some point I make my girls as proud of me as I am of them. For now, it's enough that they still grudgingly clean the kitchen when the old man needs them to.

Here's the secret: the storm is never completely over. Not really.

Some days, the only thing that keeps me alive is remembering what a colossal f***ing mess my dad left behind when he died, all the chaos and upheaval, and the absolute certainty that I will not leave my family with an even bigger mess to deal with, physically and emotionally. Some days, the most courageous act a human being can commit is to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other.

But, holy crap, we're here for you. Mostly because other FaWtLers have been there for us.

Yeah, Impus Major introduced me to Brothers of Metal. Everything they've done is on my Spotify list and at least half a dozen of their songs are on my Pandora "favorites" list. Loves me some Brothers of Metal. And it helps that the singers really are a brother and sister act.

And now I am listening to and reading about Attack Of Dead Men.

Ok, I like the song, and story behind it is metal as hell (literally, as the description basically is a case of Hell on Earth*) but I feel that some other stylistic choice for a song describing that event would fit more, something more monstrous and infernal than Sabaton.

*Drejk might be too much into Hellboy, Hellblazer, and Lucifer where such imagery fits, with WWI/II being especially strong theme for Hellboy

I think my perfect undead apocalypse show would be a mix of TWD and Van Helsing.

TWD is wonderfully gritty, well-paced, and well-written. Van Helsing has different vampire 'breeds,' from the animalistic ones to the calculating nobles. It also has hope, which even undead apocalypses need a bit of.

Taking into account your eclectic tastes I'd introduce you to Kwiat Jabłoni (Appletree's Flower) brother and sister duo, though they sing in Polish. It has nothing to do with metal (their description on wiki says they are folk-pop).

And they are children of renowned Polish musician themselves. In fact I heard them for the first time when someone shared their song on FB with comment "Until now I thought the best thing done by Kuba (their father) was <song>, but now I know his greatest creation was siring those two"

Kwiat Jabłoni captured my heart with this pearl: "They got closed my club (home edition)". The song is from 2018 or 19, but in May this year, they made video in response to lockdown.

Basically the lyrics are about discovering that "my favorite (dance) club got closed today".

Jack and Meg White were friends in high school, formed a band, married and divorced before they made it big. So they started referring to themselves as brother and sister.

Nah. Ancient Egyptians couples referred to each other as brother and sister. Though actual brother-sister marriages only happened regularly among the royalty (and possibly higher classes).

So... we are considering getting another kitten. Does that make us crazy?

Arya gets a bit stressed when she is alone and also doesn’t get enough playtime. But we’re not sure how she would do with another cat.

I can’t help thinking that if ever there was a time to do it, it’s now while I’m working from home and supervise them.

A friend let us know that her neighbor rescued a litter and is trying to find homes for them. They’re older than Arya was, so no bottle feeding.

Check the internet for the guides of introducing new kittens to older cats. You will probably need the way to keep them separate for sometime until Arya gets used to young one's smell and sound.

It's hard to tell until the first introduction, but Arya as a foundling hadn't had a proper period of socializing with her siblings, which might make things more difficult.

Haven't you thought of getting two kittens at once?

Silver Crusade

Getting littermates is the easiest way to have two cats, for sure. I did not have that option when we got Arya. But yes, she is not well socialized to other cats, so it’s really hard to know how she will act.

She is still young and playful, though, so she will probably be able to handle it better now than when she is older and slower.

But she might really hate the whole business.

I can't disagree with what NH and LM said.

I'm reminded of The Whirlwind by Transatlantic. It's a single song that's an hour and 20 minutes long, so I don't expect anyone to really listen to it (maybe Limey). Also, the lyrics are very religious in nature (standard fare for Neal Morse). Ultimately, for me, it's about enduring and persevering. Speaks to both what NH and LM were talking about.

We tried introducing two kittens to our two cats a couple years ago. Ultimately didn't go well. Sometimes it just doesn't work out no matter how carefully you go through the process.

I don't know how true it is, but I heard, once upon a time, that they started saying they were brother and sister for two main reasons. One, since Jack had taken Meg's last name when they married, and hadn't changed it after the divorce, it was easier to just say they were siblings rather than explain everything whenever someone asked why they had the same last name. And two, they thought it was funny.

Yes, during the early draft of what became Empire Strikes Back Luke's sister was supposed to be separate character... And (Anakin) Skywalker wasn't Vader either (his ghost was to appear in the movie). In later drafts Luke's father merged with Vader, and finally Leia became Luke's sister.

Huh interesting. It's almost like they accidentally threw everything together and it worked. This is probably also why all the novels and comics etc. are always entering and exiting different stages of cannon. Just in general being a mess with compared with the cinematic star wars universe. They should of just done what Marvel and DC did and make new universes. (it kind of feels like they have unofficially.) I think Old republic finally figured it out though. Just go to a time line where your far enough away to not be effected.

Scarab Sages

I believe making luke/leia brother/sister was because the original plot called for them being together, but the audiences overwhelmingly wanted han/leia as a couple. So they had to throw a wrench into their original plan.

Speaking of Cranky Californians...

For native Californians, it's always extremely aggravating when an obvious non-native writes about our weather.

"Albany could be in for a pleasant winter this year," followed up by a prediction of warmer-than-usual temperatures all winter long and rainfall at as little as 60 percent of normal.

For a native Californian, that's a catastrophic event leading to more drought and worse wildfires next year; there's nothing whatsoever to celebrate in that forecast. It's horrifying!

Someone isn't from around here...

In MN we get a lot of snow, occasional floods/tornadoes, and the mining up north is an environmental disaster waiting to happen. In your state the sky is ON FIRE.

Hugs for NH
