The parrot!

Oh is that how you spell his name? Good to know.

The parrot didn't talk. The pirate and I did.
So the parrot didn't tell to that the pirate flew a yard? well I guess that makes sense I mean what is the pirate doing flying anyways?
Maybe he has an airship.

So then I was right it is the pirate doing the flying!

He might be able to fly, but I specifically asked how far the parrot could fly.

And put some pants on when you're talking to me!

That has never been a requirement before!!!!

Also I feel like your not gonna get very far flying on a one winged parrot. air ship seems like the way better method.

Yeah, I'm at work. I hope that I have a good day, also.

Heyo, Vid! What's up?

Currently how to sign in to their email. (kill me now please.)

He doesn't know what site he needs to go to to log into his email. he doesn't know if it's hotmail gmail etc. It's probably a company email How am I suppose to know his companys website login info? This guy probably makes 10 times what I make too. Unbelievable.

Make up some random site that doesn't exist. When the browser can't find it, say "Oh, looks like your email is down. Give them a couple of hours to fix it and try again."

Then he will just wait around trying the entire time.

Alternatively, try one of these:

All the packets are empty.
Looks like a recursive traversal of the loopback mount points.
That's clearly a layer 8 problem.
Seems the cache missed. Try taking better aim next time.
The power company must be testing some new voltage spike creation equipment.
I think the kernel is bored.
Global warming is to blame.
I see the problem. This computer uses Imperial packets, and the email server uses Metric. You're gonna have to wait until Best Buy opens and buy a converter.
There's a party bug in the ALOHA protocol.
Seems you need an RTFM interface.
The SCSI's too wide.

As an (interesting?) aside, years ago I went into a store-either Best Buy or Circuit City, I don't remember which-and saw a hand-written sign for a hard drive on the shelf. It clearly stated that it used a "scuzzy cable".

SCSI? so they actually spelled out scuzzy?

Yep. That's what happened.

gran rey de los mono wrote:

Hmm maybe they were just trying to be cute.

I doubt it. I figure the person who wrote the sign was told "Make sure it says it uses a SCSI cable" and didn't know what that was so they wrote "scuzzy".

Yeah, I usually am. Thanks for noticing.

No, I worked at Circuit City (for a day) it's how all the electronic stores do it (even hardware stores, worked at Ace Hardware for a week).

They were terrible to work for.

Ace Hardware too.

I could imagine. Lowes was terrible as well. I blame that primarily on management, but it's systematic.

Meh. I suspect it is more of a "we are remixing already owned IP for fun within the boundaries of Pathfinder Society and didn't get/asked for any budget for that".

Its also not a big project. The fact that what you make will be able to be used in organised play would be a big bonus. Its a guarantee a lot of people will use what you have made.

He is actually now gainfully employed teaching autistic (and other spectrum disorder) kids how to recognize and respond to social clues and interact "normally" with other teens.

So yeah, he's currently employed doing pretty much exactly that.

It seems like the same show but with a different back ground. Basically still science stuff but at a new location no neon chalk. I kind of miss the neon chalk.

For me, it's probably going to be a quiet couple of days to avoid rage posting.

Minor summaries of rage:

- Today is day 42 of our lockdown, meaning that if everyone had behaved perfectly, we'd have defeated the virus at this point. So, that isn't reasonable. But when you go to the Farmer's Market on Sunday and there's one person still in no mask, walking right up to the person in front of her (ignoring social distancing), and when the health security officers (yep, even at the Farmer's Market) ask her to back up she does... but only until the line moves one person forward and she's right back at it, and the HSOs do absolutely nothing any more, you get frustrated.
Even if 90% of us are participating, the other 10% can make this lockdown drag on forever, and since they have no repercussions, why shouldn't they?

- I just read an appalling article on how tax preparation works for the poor: $360-$610 just to have it done (which is on a par with what *I* pay for a personal CPA and a lot of stocks, rental property, kids, college, and other technical nonsense), then another $40-$60 to have that fee taken out of the refund, then a strong encouragement to get the money back in the form of a debit card with a $5/month fee, and realizing that there is an entire industry built on bilking the poor, and I just get so full of rage I'm sure it's unhealthy.

So I'll be quiet for a bit...

?!?

That doesnt sound right. Then again, part of my main job is showing my people where to get their taxes done for free so they do not get taken advantage of by some shady fellows. I get my taxes done for free, as everyone should(although I did experiment with some paid guys, and found no real difference in my taxes save for the one year I went to a REALLY shady dude who put in a lot of deductions for me without my knowledge. I got a large refund that year, but once I realize what happened, I didn't go back).

That was the point of the article. There are a LOT of places now that will allow you to do your taxes for free, but there are also a lot of major players (H&R Block and TurboTax were the two big names I recognized) that are very careful to try to hide that from would-be customers and to get them to pay for the full service.

As I said, I know what I read, so here's the article if you're interested.

EDIT: And ProPublica is left-leaning, but fairly accurate, and I know my mother in law got pulled in by TurboTax's, "You're allowed to do your taxes online here for free, but for an extra $xx, you get all these added features that will make it faster, more accurate, and will get you your refund faster," so I've seen it in action from TurboTax. Just didn't think of it as anything more than advertising before.

interesting.

Very interesting.

Liberty Tax, H&R, and at least one other paid tax place(Coldwell, maybe?) are in my neighborhood. But noone I know goes there. Most people I know go to the numerous free tax prep places the city has, or goes to a local college to get their taxes done for free. Most people on my caseload do the same. Only the most obstinate(or to be fair, loyal) go to Liberty Tax or something similar, usually to get their money early.

Well, fortunately, watching some people behave rationally and with authority is remarkably relaxing.

A fellow resident of my mother's retirement community tested positive for COVID-19. (I don't know what they're called -- the places where you live independently in your own apartment and they provide shuttles so you can do things, then as you get less and less capable they provide more and more care until end-of-life.)

(1) Immediately on learning about the positive case, the administration locked down the entire facility. All residents are trapped in their rooms until they can be tested.
(2) Within a day or two, the facility had obtained tests for all staff and residents. (I suspect Bill Gates' involvement in Seattle's virus response has a lot to do with that.)
(3) So, my mother's getting tested today. Assuming the test comes back negative in a couple of days, she'll be released to roam again. Until then, all groceries and necessities are being delivered by fully-equipped nurses.

So just a conscious, "We are accepting these residents' money to protect them from stuff like this, and we're going to be brutally efficient about it without regards to their feelings," approach that I can appreciate, given the circumstances.

And no, I'm not particularly worried about my mother. She's survived the Great Depression, WW II, getting an M.D. and a Ph.D. while a woman in the 1950s, melanoma, multiple falls and injuries in the wilderness, and the loss of her husband. And honestly, if the virus finally takes her out, I know she won't particularly mind, so she'll be OK either way.

But at least the facility is doing its job!
