Jess, this has been bugging me for some time. Is your last name pronounced like the object, as in 'shut the door,' or does it have more license taken. I could see it being pronounced like 'do-er' as well.
I am curiousified.
Well, it's pronounced DO-uh, obviously. How else, I say, how else might it be pronounced? As in, "Miz Treppa, would you please shut duh doah, it feels a might drafty in hyuh."

Yup, just Door. As if it weren't a proper name.
We don't know what the family name was originally. Great grandpa Door was sold into indentured servitude in the Netherlands to a rich family in town. He lived in the barn (the story goes) and ate from the feed for the animals and eels he caught in the canals. When he was 18 his term of servitude was up, and he was immediately conscripted into the Dutch Navy (this was in the later half of the 19th century. I want to say Great Grandpa was born in the 1860s). Rather than report for duty, he hiked to the nearest port city and caught passage on a boat full of Polish immigrants. In the day it was quite a thing for a Dutch person to ride over with the Polish, but he hated his country and wanted nothing more than to leave.
He came to the US through Ellis Island. We assume he got the "Door" name there. We don't know what it was originally anymore. Grandpa settled with the other Hollanders in west michigan, and my grandpa was the youngest of his 13 children.
Grandpa told me the story that when he was little the queen of the Netherlands was visiting Canada, and he was with his dad in Canada. There were posters all over greeting the queen. Grandpa was walking ahead, but he heard a strange noise. Great Grandpa was stopping to spit on every poster of the queen.
O.o
Suffice it to say, Great Grandpa didn't miss the old country so much...

I am currently prone and helpless at the feet of a monster with no intervening turn. The monster is threatened, sure, but 'helpless' is a bad condition.

I say we all make ourselves feel better, and distract Treppa, by finding someone to blame for this. Who hath brought this misery in our midst?
Does someone have an oracular blame table handy?

If your cod is in the oven, shouldn't you be focusing on the cod... or the oven, rather than posting here?
Just sayin.
I see what you did there. Okay, now I want to look this up on etymological English dictionary online.
