Thoughts on roll20 versus fantasy grounds?
I use Roll20 extensively, including with kids who were in other countries, and it worked well for me. I checked out Fantasy Grounds and I was underwhelmed.
Plusses:
- The layering is invaluable with the interactive maps from Paizo. I do the Player View, lay it down as the base at the map level, then cut pieces of the GM View and put them on the GM layer so that when the PCs find a secret door I just click a button and voila, it appears.
- The audio functionality was excellent, which is unusual for ANY integrated audio.
Issues:
- Getting the Roll20 grid to align with the Paizo PDF maps is non-trivial; I ended up just hiding the Roll20 grid so people don't get confused when I'm using a projector. But when I had to do it for the international crowd it took a good 10 minutes per map to get it "good enough to remote game with"
- Dynamic lighting sounds really cool, but it's basically a joke. *YOU* have to manually add in all the light sources and light-blocking surfaces. Then unless each person is on their own PC the visibility doesn't make any sense anyway. I was using one for my "GM screen", one for my "in-house" group, and one for the kids in Germany and New York. I gave up even trying to get dynamic lighting to work reasonably.
- Any attempt to store PC information was pretty useless. They HAVE character sheets, but I never did figure out how to make them work properly. I just had "Green = AC, Red = HP, go!"
I'm sure I could do better with it, but as usual, I just don't want to dedicate the time when 95%+ of the time I'm in the same room with my players, and I'm just using it to project maps.
EDIT 1: I guarantee Woran has done more distributed groups than I have, so I'd take her word over mine.
EDIT 2: The BIG advantage of either is that you can GM naked.

I wonder why?
You know, I was mildly disappointed when this wasn't a RickRoll.
I shouldn't be. It was just a curious moment.
"Oh, hey! A RickRo-... oh, yeah, exactly what she said it was, that's good, too."
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm weird sometimes. After that song, I'll now turn it to Never Gonna Give You Up, and get the best of both worlds! :D
EDIT: Thanks, Astely - I haven't heard you in too long a time.

Its mostly what you note as issues with roll20. Those are way better in fantasy grounds.
Especially if you can throw down the cash for the APs, then everyone has done the work for you and you have all the maps set up interactively and the monsters pre-loaded for you. Which is a big plus if you game with people all over the globe.

Last day before spring break. All our faculty were supposed to be at a conference, which was canceled, so instead we were in all-day meetings to prepare to do a combination of "home learning kits" and google hangouts to give lessons should our threat level rise. And we've extended spring break for a second week for students only so that we can have a planning week for us to continue to try to get our act together. But our health department is not recommending school closure af this time.

Never used FG.
Roll20 has been a pain to try and use so I've mostly abandoned it.
My group uses MapTool for gaming, with voice over Discord. My ease with it may just be due to years of use, but it's always seemed far more intuitive to me to use than Roll20.

Given that I've been making Orthos marathon FMA:Brotherhood with me, I'm...not sure if this is a very good or a very bad thing.
Crap. Aiymi's been having me watch Star Wars: Resistance. I'm going to die.

All of the big box stores and grocery stores are out of toilet paper and surprisingly running really low on paper towels (I do not envy their sewer pipes in three weeks time) so where does a non hoarder find toilet paper in Wisconsin when they need it.
The corner store (which had plenty of toilet paper), because Wisconsinites are too cheap to pay full price.

GothBard asked me whether we needed to stock up on anything, and I pointed out the exact same thing: Nobody rushes to the corner store to buy in bulk...

It's like all the worst parts of Thomas the Tank Engine, Teletubbies, and Rankin-Bass Claymation combined.

Having just been watching Gotham, I'm actually in a fairly decent place, over-all. I mean, yeah, I'll likely have a scar or some life-altering trauma, but I'll at least make it out alive.
So that I can then go crazy and enact convoluted vengeance schemes, maybe even becoming a well-preserved shapeshifting magic lich so that I can become a normal citizen and resume daily life.

Yes. Yes, it is.
EDIT: The last show I willingly watched was Altered Carbon. So yeah, I feel pretty sorry for the kidnappers. And myself.

Haikyu, so unless my kidnappers want to play volleyball I'm probably screwed.

Pretty pleased with the kids' decision-making. Gee... I trust them, and they make good decisions. What a concept!
They were planning on a bunch of get-togethers this weekend, then got into a discussion about the coronavirus, the school closures, and what they should be doing.
They decided they didn't want to put their parents at risk, so they're going to focus on socializing online, and they want to do the Friday night game in our back yard so they won't risk infecting us.
Classy kids!

Second time trying to type this, let's see,...
Southern Louisiana,
Wed,
-University I work at.
"We are monitoring the situation and in communication with health officials. We have NO plans to close the University anytime soon. Just in case it does happen, all departments begin researching and implementing plans for online distance learning for your classes."
-Public schools - Institute more cleaning and sanitization. No canceling yet,
Thu, approx 15-20 confirmed cases in the state.
-University, "I guess since the 'So-called' PROFESSIONALS did it, we will cancel our sportsball games too."
-Public schools- We are watching and taking care of the kids. School must go on! But kids cannot travel to any outside events. What? Cancel the sportsball? Oh OK. I guess"
Fri, 8am
-University, "We are NOT closing anytime soon. Continue preparation for distance learning."
-Me (Running auditorium) -continue to plan for all events. Including the School "Miss" pageant this evening. News that a large event NEXT week canceled.
-Public schools. "Still taking care of kids, cleaning, if you are sick stay home. Schools stay open!"
-ALso Me- LOTS of emails, phone calls, etc. FAR more than usual. (And I get a lot!)
Fri, 10am,
-University, "Still not closing, continue planning for distance learning. We are in constant contact with officials,..."
-Me- MORE phone calls, rearranging schedules of workers, emails, people
asking if they have to move event, or CAN move event (NO, I'm booked up!) Etc Etc,...
-Public schools- "Crickets sound"
Fri, 12 noon, (trying to leave work) now 33 confirmed cases in state.
-Governor of the state- "ALL K-12 schools closed starting Monday, March 16 through April 13. All gatherings of over 250 people are canceled and illegal. "
-Public schools, "Per the governor, etc"
-University, "Remember we werent gonna do that. yeah forget we said that. CLASSES (not workers or offices) canceled Mon & Tue, Long distance learning will begin Wed"
-ME- canceling last large events for weekend. And the month. Confirming that student performances can continue at least through the weekend. Re-arranges worker schedule. Again. Answers another round of phone calls and emails,...
,... Gets fed up, finishes what he can, goes home for lunch, makes himself a drink instead.
AND goes to a smaller town nearby to perform in "The Music Man" that evening. Opening night, VERY small crowd. :P
yeah,... Imma go to bed now,...

That was actually Tiny T-Rex's favorite show as a toddler, we even ordered one of the toys for it off Amazon for Christmas one year.

At the time this was posted it actually wouldn't be FMAB for me, because I'd been watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure at work. So I'd be having Jotaro, Joseph, Polnareff, Kakyoin, and Avdol causing massive bodily and spiritual trauma and a large volume of collateral damage while coming to my rescue.

Unsurprisingly, it holds up pretty well. While the pro cannabis sidebar isnt for me, not doing things you arent into is a major part of the comic, and the majority of it is rather basic, comedic approach to sex, although there are some tired stereotypes in it.

So, given that the last ep of Brotherhood we watched heavily featured Kimblee and Scar, the kings of making s#~~ explode, which of us is better off?
