I've been on 2 calls today. The first one was an hour and a half. This one...that's still going...has just eclipsed three and a half hours. Good thing I had absolutely nothing that I needed to otherwise do today.

I'm happy our biggest nature problem is being several feet below sea level.
The only natural issues we have are tornadoes, Autumn deer orgies and milkmaid molting season.
One of those isn't actually an issue.

We ended up getting a record setting 3 inches of snow last night, which of course melted when it hit the pavement but stuck everywhere else.
Guess where I work outside, everywhere else.
So I had a fun day of kneeling in the muddy snow and pounding in marble flower bed edging (that'll stick it to the Joneses!).
Or, you know, whatever the opposite of fun is.

I was so sick Monday all day at school that the principal told me she would find me a sub for today. Which is unusual. Typically your willingness to deal with the annoyance of making call after call and getting told "no" repeatedly until someone agrees to cover is a sign of how badly you really need the day off.
So I spent the day on the couch watching "Angel" on Facebook Watch and drinking tea laced with Nemiroff Honey Pepper (thanks, Ersatz Russian!) as well as actual honey.
And my mother-in-law made dinner for the kids and sent it home with WW after he spent the morning helping her out with random stuff at her house, since he has to work tonight.

I put out the Halloween lights on Monday.
Someone already stole our lit reaper, leaving me with two choices:
(1) Take everything else down and have a "plain" Halloween to make it clear how displeased I am.
(2) Leave everything else up and pretend it didn't happen.
Neither appeals to me. GothBard wants to put out a tombstone with a curse written in large letters. I approve of that, but I'm going to miss my lil' lit reaper.
EDIT: Yes, it flies in the face of my whole, "Wanting to get rid of everything" facade, but holiday decorations should be loved until they wear out and break, not be stolen by some delinquent in the night...

It's cold enough in the house (59 this morning) that I decided to try to turn on the heat.
And the heater caught on fire.
I believe this is contraindicated, so I've called out a repair guy to look at it.
I loved the woman on the phone: "So, were you looking to get it repaired?"
"Oh, heck no! You're going to rip this thing out and replace it!"

It just chose a different method of heating your house, that's all. It shouldn't be destroyed and replaced just for that. :D

Well, let me put it this way: I'm only pretty sure that I'm older than it by a few years (less than 10), so it's done its job.
I got the quote, and the markup over buying it and doing it myself is amazingly steep (250%, or 3.5x retail price), but you have to figure there's a whole bunch of licensing and insurance going on, plus permits, inspection, etc., so it's "within the realm of reasonable".
And for those who are curious, the old model has a pilot light, hence a gas knob, and the knob's been a bit leaky for years. This year the spring and seal finally gave out and if you turn the knob past "pilot" it spews gas, which the pilot then ignites, leading to a fun burny knob you get to try to turn off before it melts open.
As I said, "Repair this 40+-year-old heater" just doesn't seem like the wise choice.
