Well, the tornado moved from ten miles due west of us to just about ten miles north without ever coming close. It's moving away to the northeast and some folks are reportedly getting pretty big hail.
At least I'll have an excuse why my progress reports aren't written tomorrow.
Okay, not a valid excuse, but a plausible lame one.

If you do, how do you deal with it?
Imposter syndrome is when you feel like a fraud and unworthy of your accomplishments (or you doubt your accomplishments altogether); this is usually associated with a fear of being found out and “exposed” (for the supposed “imposter” you are).
In some ways, it’s like a reverse or opposite Dunning-Kruger effect.
And, Woran, I suspect that everyone experiences it or something like it, even if it is only to minor degrees - perhaps not the full-blown syndrome, but that fear and worry that you’re not as good as your life says you are.
In my case, I expect such anxieties are a little more accurate, but in general I deal with them by being religious and recognizing my over-all inability to “earn” my place. When I reframe it in such a narrative, while it does not absolve me of the responsibility to try to be a good person, it absolves me of the responsibility to succeed on my own merits. It becomes less about deserving something and more about reviving the gift that is life - and then struggling to live up to the expectations and requirements such things place upon us. I may not succeed (in fact, I often don’t) but that’s irrelevant to the fact that when I fail, I get back up and try again.
What happens when people discover I’m a fraud? I don’t know. But my family will still love me - not because I deserve it, but because they are my family. God still will be there - not because I am worthy, but because He is God. And my kids don’t have a choice for a few more years (so I’d best try to make it an acceptable set of years).
And that’s really the key. You are more than your accomplishments. You are more than what is publicly called success. You can define yourself as more and better.
For my part, I suspect that your accomplishments are every bit as excellent as others currently think they are.
But you can see the flaws, holes, and weaknesses because you are the one who went through them. Who better to notice the problems than you?
So try your best to live up to the hype, but don’t wreck your life doing so. Instead, moderate yourself so that you have time for you, because if you don’t, you will start failing more. And whether you deserve to be where you are or not, start now to make sure that you live your best self and do what you can - while taking care of yourself, because you can’t do anything if you don’t - to honor the gift of your life that you’ve been given. Because it’s a cool life. You are, after all, you! That’s awesome!

If this morning's announcement is true, I think it may be one of the laziest IT decisions I've ever seen.
As I think I've mentioned, our file sharing systems here are pathetic; by default you get 50 MB (yes. Megabytes. NOT Gigabytes). By request you can up it to a whopping 500 MB. You need special permission to go higher.
So, we just got the announcement from IT that we're moving to a new file management system. Hooray!
Except... they're not going to migrate anything for us. Every single one of the 100,000+ affected employees has to manually migrate his or her own file systems.
In my opinion, "We're an IT department, we're fundamentally changing your infrastructure, and we're going to make YOU deal with it all with no instructions or tools," is a serious IT fail.

NobodysHome: So, see right here? This is our emergency generator. If there's a natural disaster while your mom and I are out, use one of those clear plastic tubes to siphon some gas out of whichever car is here and use it to run the generator to power the fridge and the microwave.
Impus Major: But doesn't that mean I'll have to use the "mouth method" to get the gas?
NH: Yes, but gasoline is remarkably non-toxic. It can cause severe pneumonia, so just don't inhale it and you'll be fine.

Granted, it should just be copy and paste, but there's absolutely no reason they shouldn't be able to robocopy the entire folder/file structure over to the new system and replicate the permissions over...there's no reason at all...
Your IT department continues to make me weep.
However, at the same time, between yours and one of the megacorps I worked at, I would like the users here to work for those megacorps for a month and see how far their behavior goes with those IT departments. It wouldn't end well for them.

Denial, distraction, and seeking validation from my coworkers to tell me if "this project looks okay to you" when I know it should look okay because I know what I'm doing, but I have an overwhelming need to fish for a compliment to feel halfway competent when professional anxiety strikes.
It also stops me from working on any of my personal projects between feeling unable to meet a bare minimum of a standard and devoting so much time to reinventing the wheel at work.

He's done Step 1, twice, and survived the experience. Of course, next time may be different.
Step 2...yeah, he hasn't said that to me in person. Perhaps this is why he survived.
It *shouldn't* be a bad idea, but it really, really, really is. I mean...at the core it's just "Copy your files from here, paste them over here." And for some reason, they can copy/paste stuff that they're asked to do as part of their routine, but the instant you tell them to copy/paste stuff like this, outside of their daily routine...cats and dogs living together and the apocalypse is upon us all. They just lose their minds. They have no idea what to do.

What's copy and paste?
It's better for IT to just copy everything over, migrate the security permissions, then quietly change group policy to no longer map the old location, delete any current mapping to the old location, and instead map the new location without telling them.
Now, I know a lot of people are going to balk at that "don't tell them" part. But honestly...we do tell them...and it just doesn't matter. They don't listen, they largely don't understand, and they're going to blame us no matter what we do. Besides, it's a network location and it shouldn't matter one bit where that location is.
As a friend of mine said when I first met her and she found out I was in IT: "Oh...you don't hate people. You f#@!ing loathe them."
In the work setting, yes. I do. I have a very hard time not seeing most of them as just a collection of repeated acts of stupidity. It's horrible. I know. I'm a horrible person. It's not everyone, mind you. There's a small handful that I can trust to *honestly try*, regardless of their success or failure. I have no issues with people when the problem is honestly a problem and/or they have done a bare minimum of "can I fix this myself".
But around here, I've had to ask "Is it plugged in?" The answer was "Yes, I'm not stupid! Why are you even asking such a stupid question!" So I walk over there and can see the cord dangling, not plugged in from 8 feet away. Then they complain directly to the CIO that I'm walking away without solving their problem.
These are the same people that call IT because the printer is out of paper. No. You don't need IT to open a pack of paper and stick it in the drawer.

My IT guys always just hand me escalated security and say, "Yeah, if you have any issues go ahead and fix them yourself, because we know you're going to do it right."
It's a batch of security privileges I wear with honor.
AND I can get into a bunch of Global Megacorporation's secure server rooms on a whim, and who doesn't want that?

I try not to do that anymore (not that I have much opportunity being in a non-office environment anymore), partially because I knew I just seeking validation, but mostly because I got really irritated when my one of my co-workers would often come back with something. Not because there was anything wrong with my work, but because my writing didn't fit their own personal style of writing. Which was extra irritating because I was the one who sat down with my own copies of Strunk & White's Elements and Microsoft's Manual of Style and wrote the formal standardized techwriting guidelines for all our group's output back when the group was first formed, and then personally got it all signed off by the group supervisor & manager, the tech guys in San Jose and Tokyo, stateside upper upper management, and the legal departments. Like dude, really?
Deep breathes. I can't believe I'm still carrying that crap around inside my head this many years later.
It also stops me from working on any of my personal projects between feeling unable to meet a bare minimum of a standard and devoting so much time to reinventing the wheel at work.
I keep a slushpile folder of text files with every idea for a story or RPG-related thing to work on. Which helps clear it out of my brain's active memory, but the pile keeps growing...
