That guy had one of the worst negotiating tactics I've seen in a long time. He asked my price, I told him what it is, and then he just stood there and stared at me. I stared back. This lasted about 2 minutes before he finally started saying things like "I could go next door and get a room there, you know." (Turns out he couldn't, he eventually asked me to call them and they are sold out.) After almost ten minutes of him repeatedly asking my rate, me telling him the same rate, and then him staring at me, he finally left to try a different hotel.
This guy just came by again. Tonight we are sold out. I told him that and he stared at me angrily for about 15 seconds and then tried to storm out. I say tried, because our front doors open and close fairly slowly, so he had to stop and wait for them to open.

Movies like I Kill Giants always frustrate the h*** out of me
It's just NOT a good movie, and it's a plot we've seen at least a dozen times in the last few years alone. My impression is that Terry Gilliam pioneered this technique of, "Is it real or is it just in the character's mind?", and some films have done it masterfully (not listed for obvious reasons), but for this film, from about 5 minutes in you're thinking, "No, the giants aren't real, she's just insane."
And you're right, and it's depressing. Just out-and-out unpleasant to watch.
On the other hand, Fruit Basket is an amazingly delightful anime. I don't care that it's probably aimed at tween girls; I'm loving it anyway.

I enjoyed the manga, but never saw the show. It’s been long enough that I’m kind of surprised to see it being talked about in more than one place I frequent. Is the show new?
I have no idea. It was recommended for me on CrunchyRoll, GothBard said she'd seen a couple of episodes in her anime club and found it "delightful", so we started watching it last night.
According to Funimation, it was a 6-month series in 2001 that's being re-released in 2019, explaining its sudden resurgence.

Sage for Forbidden Lands. It will be probably the last Forbidden Lands post for now with something else next week.
Unless I get really brilliant (at least in my own mind) idea.

This is extremely true.
It’s funny TS thinks of it as common - it was kind of hard for me to catch back in the day.
Also, the ReBoot reboot is pretty bad, but in a watchable way, at least if you are able to enjoy bad puns and references to a better show. It was a redevelopment of a different original property into something vaguely related to the ReBoot series. It’s silly, and incredibly banal in many ways, but it’s fine for a kids show and the puns are fantastically bad.

I love when my therapist or doctor is like "so how do you deal with stress?"
Um. I don't. That's why you have a job.
"You need healthier coping mechanisms."
If I were capable of that, do you think I would be wasting my time with you? Do you think I show up for every appointment because I just want to say hi or something?
It's not like a lack of knowledge is whats making my serotonin and dopamine f%%+ up.
It is as if they can't conceptualize the idea that glorified placebos like controlled breathing, meditation, progressive relaxation and the lot might actually not help in the face of literal insanity.

When you dont really want a job, but are offered an interview, go. It's fun, stressless, and great practice for real ones. Plus you can say stuff like this:
"Sell me this pencil"
"Really? Wow. So are they hiring for HR cause I am pretty sure I'm more qualified for YOUR job."
"Excuse me?"
"This is a grocery store deli. You want me to what, upsell the pastrami?"

That was an interesting phone call. It was from Central Reservations, calling because there are apparently a dozen people waiting in the lobby of a hotel a block away wanting to check in, but they've been there for over an hour and no one is at the desk. No one is answering the phone either. She was wondering if I had any other contact info, like the phone number for the manager or something, for that hotel. Which I don't. Don't know exactly what's going on over there, but I'm guessing someone is getting fired.

Interviewer: So what would you say your greatest weakness is?
Me: My inability to not point out b%#*&!#*, like pointless canned interview questions that have no real right answer except for the obvious workaholic reply you're looking for.
Paperwork is mine.
Mostly because when I do people gawk at my writing style (I write upside down but it comes out right side up).

Or already resigned themselves...
Have you not thought about quitting in the middle of the workday yourself?

When I was the quality control inspector at a cheese factory I went to the bathroom on my last break and just walked out the door instead and never returned.
In fairness, the birds were chirping.

Buh. Blue Rose is an interesting exceeding in various minor frustrations, especially away from my desktop where it’s just harder for me to handle searches for no real valid reason.
So Aldis, capital city of Aldis is half a million folks (500k), while one of the next major cities, Garnet, is a third of that (166k) and another major port is just a fraction of that (25k). I know the Pavin Weald is more sparsely populated than the central valleys due to their lifestyle, and the Scatterstar Archipeligo is because the islands aren’t as fertile (kind of like Jarzon). There are half a dozen (at least) other major cities noted, but with no population statistics given. Apparently most people live in smaller centers - farm and forest and grove villages and the like.
I know that Aldis is more prosperous and more fertile than neighboring Jarzon (through no fault of Jarzon’s own - they were dealt a very sucky hand).
I know that Rezea is much more sparsely populated (because they love in decentralized nomadic lifestyles). Kern is also more sparsely populated... maybe. Unless it’s loaded to the gills, but their all kept in various forms of enslavements. It’s unclear.
And that is literally all I know. The idea of Roamers are weird and it’s impossible to get a concept of their numbers - for one, it’s difficult to say how common they are in Aldis. Do they even travel in Jarzon? The Veran Marsh?
How many citizens are in Aldis, roughly? Lar’tya? Jarzon? Rezea? It’s a minor point, but it is difficult to know how to describe people and places when you lack a sense of scale between them.

I’m not saying the information doesn’t exist, only that it’s annoying that I can’t get at it as easily as I’d like.
Also, I still can’t get online on my desktop. It’s weird - I have two methods of connecting and both do the same thing. But iPad works and that requires a valid internet connection to do anything online, so, I really have no idea what’s up with the computer. It’s a weird problem to be sure.

Captain, cheese shouldn't have live birds in it. Bake them in a pie, like our fathers and our fathers' fathers did.

So, yeah, why hasn't my company conquered the world yet?
NobodysHome: (Bug Report) The administrator cannot manage users on this page because of incorrect security roles. Notice that if I add this totally-unrelated security role, the page works correctly.
Bug Responder: Well, it's obviously not going to work! That administrator that you created doesn't have the user's role.
For the non-technical, what he is suggesting is that every administrator in the application should have ALL security roles for ALL users, added one-by-one, by hand, in order to administer the application.
And NO, that's not how it works.
Yet again:
(1) File a bug through the most painful bug process I have ever encountered
(2) Have the respondent prove that they fundamentally do not understand how the application works.
Yeah, more than a little frustrating...
