I spent most of my afternoon at my mother-in-law's.
She needs her roof re-done. And it's been layered over so many times that THIS time they need to rip everything off and start from scratch.
Yeah.
Remember how I've said she's a hoarder who's been living alone for forty years?
The house has a double attic.
Everything has to come OUT of the attic so the roof work can be done.
So I put on my army pants and borrowed WW's industrial respirator mask (allergies to dust and mold, plus the attic is filled with rat poop).
Today we managed to get through about 1/5 of one of the attics. (Pull boxes out, unpack them onto a tarp, photograph them, repack them in a clean box, label, catalog, and take to the rented storage unit nearby).
Most of it is family heirlooms left to my sister-in-law in Vermont by long-dead relatives that she will probably never actually come pick up (lots of crystal and china, but she has five boys between 2 and 12 in her house). A lot of it is just random crap that my mother-in-law saved over the years. There's a Look magazine from 1969 with Ho Chi Minh on the cover. There were Vogue magazines from the 70's. Why? Who knows. There were FOUR brownie cameras.
YOU know my situation, but I'm not sure everyone else does: My parents bought their house in 1968, then had my maternal grandmother move in with all her stuff. She died. Her stuff stayed. My brothers moved out. Their stuff stayed.
After 45 years when my mother finally moved out, she just said, "I'm sure you can handle it.
Hence I will be sorting other people's crap for the rest of my life.
Favorite find so far: A bag of around 250 .38-caliber bullets in the workshop. We're not gun people. So, huh?
EDIT: Now where did my clothes go amongst all this stuff?

So I am sitting around prepping the final part of Age of Worms, listening to some records Argus specifically and thought I would visit the old neighborhood

I never knew how close we are in age, I graduated in '02. :)
Incidentally, just today I learned that my high school is one of NY's 50 worst. Which is a genuine surprise, as I always had a good impression of it academics-wise. Not anything else-wise, mind you, I graduated and never looked back.
Weird.

So I just had a guy confuse me with the second shift front desk person. It was like the whole yall all look alike situation. Kind of hurt my feelings a bit. dude has like 100 pounds on me and is balding. :(
That's all right. I was starting my paperwork when the auditor from next door came over and said "Oh, I thought (other person) was working tonight and came over to mess with him. Bye." Second shift hadn't left yet, and saw her as she left. I thought it was weird, but he said that her and the person she thought was working are cousins, so that makes more sense.

Hmmm...Social media is not my thing, but I thank you for the invite.
Hah! It's as much "social media" as any sort of forums are, it's just more "real time" chat-posting than anything else.
It's like the old AIM or WLM or whatever, except better than those things.
It's less like Twitter or Facebook, except that Facebook also has whatever those chat-window things are, which is close, but still not quite there.
I guess I'd say, "it's like forums, but also allows for immediate feedback/notification" instead, but, eh.
Also, this is meant to be a point of clarification, not pressure; either way, I'm glad to see you around!

Kind of a "oh its you I don't want to talk to you bye" type situation eh?

More of an "I don't want to bother you since I don't know you very well" kind of thing.

How many viruses did you get before you swapped. Judging by what I know of ICQ I'm gonna guess ALL OF THEM.

A Texan went to Mexico on vacation. He went into a bar and ordered a beer. The bartender served him, and said "That will be $5". The Texan paid, and settled onto the stool to drink. A moment later, a Mexican sat next to him and also ordered a beer. The bartender served him the same beer he had given the Texan, and said "$3". The Mexican paid, and the Texan roared angrily "What the Sam Hill?!? You charged me $5 for a beer, but only charged him $3!" The bartender replied "Of course. He gets the Señor discount."

That was a lot of typing for such a tiny pay off.

The only virus I got on that computer was when my roommate's friend downloaded a bunch of stuff off a file sharing network. Maybe Kazaa? Or Limewire? One of the ones that got pretty big after Napster was shut down.

When one of my Grandpas died, we found 2 boxes of ammo that confused us. Grandpa had an old .22 and a pair of .30-06s. So, why did he have two boxes of 7.92x57mm with Russian-style (Cyrilic?) writing that seemed to imply they were made in Ethiopia in 1957? As far as I know my Dad still has them somewhere.

I used Kazaa for a while and never got viruses. Then I heard BAAAAAD THINGS (tm) and stopped. Limewire was the bigger one, I think, but I never used it.

Oscar Wilde was at a party, and boasted that he could make a pun on any subject that was suggested. One of the other party guests, knowing Wilde would be reticent to risk saying something offensive about the royal family, suggested he make a pun about the Queen. Wilde quickly replied "Ah ha, a fine suggestion, but the Queen is not a subject."

Yesterday, I had another sword-fighting get-together, themed around British martial arts of days gone by, after which ALL (DE) and I went to see Nubya Garcia, which was a top-notch gig.
Today there is more sword stuff, after which I have to go home and try to fix a leaky shower unit, yaaaaay.
