But empathy isn't necessary. You don't need to understand to care. Sympathy and respect are sufficient when you know someone who does suffer...and odds are you do even if you haven't figured it out. We live among you silently. Most of us are so tired of stigma we've gotten really good at faking normalcy. But it's like tensing a muscle; you can only do it so long.

Just had to say that "live amongst you silently" line was kind of cheesy.

Also i'm naked now.

You mean like
"If you were a Transformer, you'd be Optimus Fine."

"Your parents must be terrorists because they made a bomb!"

"Your eyes are like limpid pools of primordial ooze, and I am the protozoa that wish to swim in their depths."

"You have nice child-bearing hips. You will give me many sons"

I don't know what your talking about those are gold.

So, I've realized why people hate the holidays so much:

You have a precious, precious 1-2 weeks off that you've been savoring all year, looking forward to FINALLY having some "down time", time to catch up on projects, or whatever.

If you're like me, you even map out the days of the month and what you're going to do each day to make sure you're not overwhelmed.

And then... THEY come.

Every. Stupid. Invitation. From every distant friend, relative, co-worker, or acquaintance, all of whom have suddenly decided that, because it's the "holiday season", it's suddenly time for them to track you down and socialize with you.

It would be nice if it were 1-2 people.

But when you have 10 invitations to 10 separate parties by December 8, plus your father-in-law drops by for 2 hours on a Saturday afternoon you'd been dedicating to chores and relaxing, it suddenly gets... stressful.

I'm going to do the world a favor and decline ALL of the invitations and not invite anybody to do ANYTHING.

I'll invite 'em over in May. May is a slow month.

Yeah. Long time ago I decided that chrismas is for family, old/new year is for friends. And in between everyone can go sit in a tree for all I care.

We live among you silently. Most of us are so tired of stigma we've gotten really good at faking normalcy. But it's like tensing a muscle; you can only do it so long.

I think the hard part for "normies" is to understand that you're NOT there to fix someone else's problems; you're there to listen to them and empathize.

I'm both happy and sad that Impus Major is going through his teenage years with a massively-depressive best friend. (We're talking hospitalized twice on suicide watch, missing a year of school for mental health issues, summer programs, etc.) Because he has to go through the emotional turmoil of watching his friend go through such horrors, but at the same time he's learning that his job isn't to make things better; it's to be the rock to which his friend can cling during the worst of times.

I lost my best friend to suicide at 24. I know the decades of self-doubt it causes. "What could I have done differently to save him? What did I do wrong? Why did I fail him?"

And eventually you finally realize that you didn't fail; his body's brain chemistry failed. And if you were there for him through it all, being his safe harbor through his mental storms, then you did all you could.

But yeah, the whole idea of, "If they aren't an immediate threat to themselves or others, then they don't need mental health care," alongside the wonderful, "If they do need mental health care, then they're weak," is such a prevalent attitude that it's just sickening.

So here's the weird thing about being poor: sometimes you really don't realize just how bad things are until you're faced with a momentary experience of abundance. This morning WW and I got treated to the annual Choir Christmas brunch at the country club near the church. It was really nice and there was so much good food out on the buffet that I actually had to stop myself from crying. Holy crap I just ate a lot.

My water heater might have broken. Not sure at the moment because its tank is still full of warm water so it won't turn on to heat more of it. But at night, it bleed orange liquid from its gauge. We'll see in a few days.

*sigh* I'd prefer to avoid buying new water heater. And I definitely prefer to avoid replacing it. It's 120 liter metal tank hanging on the wall...

Hmmm…

I'm guessing your swimsuit is a one-piece. Might add a pair of short shorts to cover up the crotch region, and if the upper 'bounce' is bothering you could maybe tape them in using sports strapping tape.

Just spit balling here, I'm no expert on the subject.

That's not entire true Kitty.

To me, at least, you do seem to try and understand.
Also having had rough patch yourself, will make you a little more aware of the signs of mental issues. You might not be able to accurately diagnose people, but you'll see the signs. That awareness will in itself, usually, make you more likely to offer help or support to other people.
You might not think like other people Kitten (I know I don't for sure ^^'), in fact very few people do think really alike, but in your own way I'm sure you'll find some way of expressing support.

Are you sure you should be using cochineal dye? I mean its mostly know as a early renaissance dye (over here, since you know the Spanish brought some back from the whole stomping of the Aztecs thing*). I mean I think maybe Kermes or Rose madder would be a more likely dye used…

* Yes there were exceptions, as the were cochineal dye production (and trade with the rest of Europe) in central and eastern Europe during medieval times...and in the Caucasus region even as far back as around 800-700 BC-ish.

Swimsuit is one piece. I've heard of people wearing sports bra inside their swim suits for triathlons. But again the reason I was in my swimsuit was because my sports bra was hanging out to dry and I wanted to go swimming anyway.

Also I didn't escape blister free. A little blister snuck up on the side of my foot, but strangely when I poke it it doesn't feel painful at all. So I'll just let it be.

My master was pointing me to the PF2 flamewars, I told him I have no interest in forum flame wars. Call me in when the dust settles and I'll look through the rules, if I'm interested, I'll play. Likely no, because I have no interest in gaming ever since my first Strange Aeons group fell apart and I nearly quit paizo boards altogether.

Nah, nothing wrong with that. It's where I tend to be, especially with NWN - I have all sorts of plots and stories to tell as a DM, whereas I've been increasingly inactive playerside.

Granted, the fact that most of my old NWN buddies are no longer around or super busy with IRL is probably a major reason for that.

I totally get both sides of this.

When I have gripes or complaints or issues with my depression or anxiety, I'm totally of the mindset of just wanting someone to listen and be there, and not necessarily looking for a solution, just more often than not needing to vent.

But when the roles are reversed, I'm totally the kind of person who's looking for a solution and trying to narrow down and suss out the pertinent info to find the thing that needs fixing or doing. And just being told that I just need to be there and listen drives me bonkers.

And yes, I'm quite aware that it's maddening and contradictory and I would totally hate myself if all the roles were reversed. I'm very quite aware.

I have to force myself to play outside of PbP, just to keep that perspective fresh when GMing.

The game is Slay the Spire. After you beat it on normal mode, you can do the Ascension modes. Each level of Ascension makes it harder in some way (enemies hit harder, have more hit points, you heal less, etc...).

Man, listening to GothBard, Shiro, and Lara Croft Guy play Fallout 76 makes me SOOOOOO happy I didn't spend any money on it!

To say that they foisted a beta version of a game on unsuspecting customers is an insult to beta versions. They're having to deal with not being able to see each other while right next to each other, gear, equipment, and even houses just disappearing, multiple server crashes a day, making them lose progress at an alarming rate, and now my personal favorite: Shiro spotted Lara Croft Guy's flashlight passing through a wall and several feet of rock.

Yep. They didn't even get their ray tracing right. And considering that's what Lara Croft Guy has been doing for the Lara Croft games since their inception, he was... less than complimentary.

The game's a train wreck through and through. Even Shiro is talking about quitting for a while until they can get more of the bugs out so you can play for an evening without multiple catastrophic events.

But there's got to be something to the game, because all 3 of them are still playing it in spite of all that...
