You mean there aren't hot dogs? Or kebabs?

You can still eat healthy at the fun fairs here. Get a kebab, no mayo and chilli.

*sighs and gets dressed*

You don't want to eat a fair hot dog in America, that's a good way to discover new and exciting food illnesses.

No kebabs at the fair, you can always get fried cheese curds or grilled cheese at the American Legion.

Cream Puffs
Funnel Cake
Cheese Curds
Lemonade.

These are the only edible things you'll find at a fair in Wisconsin.

Ymmv.

THIS is what you can find in a Singapore fun fair (the local term for it is pasar malam).

Everything is safe to eat.

Drool, FAWTLers...Drool!

Freehold, you sure you don't want to pay Singapore a visit? We've got Takoyaki!

As I've said before too much deep fried food will make me feel sick from all that oil.

A local newspaper wrote an article reviewing a nearby carnival. They said it wasn't very good. The owners of the carnival threatened to sue, claiming that the newspaper reporter was lying. The paper's editor defended the article stating "It was a fair assessment.".

But they've even figured out how to deep fry Pepsi!!

Which is probably a better use for it than drinking it.

Seeing Gordon Ramsay in a restaurant is either a good sign or a very bad sign.

I personally think that American (and Australian) food tends to be mostly deep fried, combine that with super-sized servings…and coke being cheaper then water, yeah that’s one way to get fat. Not to mention that some months, outdoor physical activity isn’t possible.

Due to public transport being the way it is, most people drive to work and everywhere else, which cuts down the amount of physical activity they get. Public transport in Singapore wouldn’t get right at your workplace, you’d still have to walk to train station/bus stop.

So I suppose in America, if you weren’t taking active steps to prevent it, it’s fairly easy to put on weight…

But in Australia, I know a crazy auzzie who walks 20 mins to work everyday.

Oh and getting overweight puts extra strain on your knees(especially when you get older), which makes you not want to get out even more to exercise.

Is this considered as political? *scratches head*

No, health discussions aren't political. (umm... unless you make them political I guess??)
SOME people get out of hand with the deep frying... (I'm looking at you, fried butter lovers...) but outside of fast food... most of our food is not deep fried...
I mean, yes, we took deep frying, and made something of an art out of it, but in reality, we also made up a lot of baked goods, such as apple or pumpkin pies. And canned goods were an american perfection if I recall rightly

I like the vegetable one. Reminds me of captain yesterday.

Is it weird that I also feel the vegetable monster reminds me of Captain.

I like his cooking show. Hes not so bad of a guy when he's not surrounded by incompetent chefs who are trying to poison their clientele. He seems angry but I put myself in that situation I think I would be angry to if I walked into a kitchen infested with bugs and I had already sampled the food.

there is a surprisingly small amount of true american food

America is such a hodge podge I don't know why people always try to claim something is more american then something else.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Apple and pumpkin pie are the only "true" american dishes I can think of off-hand. everything else is just an alteration on something that already existed.
edit: well, biscuits and gravy is a uniquely american combination I suppose... but still, both sausage gravy and biscuits (scones) where present before hand...

I really haven't seen much of his stuff, but the few times I've come across it I turned it off. I don't like the whole screaming obscenities thing. Although I have heard somewhere (possible here in FaWtL) that that is sort of played up for the American version of the show. Apparently in the British version he doesn't yell as much. It seems the producers thought that Americans wouldn't watch if someone wasn't screaming their head off.

Isn't apple pie French? Or maybe it was derived from some kind of French tart or something?

Thats pretty much how I feel about all reality TV. If someone is watching it I might sit down and watch an episode but I'm not going to search it out.

I just got done about an hour and a half ago watching Castle Rock and It hooked me.

Apples were a european fruit, but Johnny "Appleseed" revolutionized them on American farms and orchards.

It is a fascinating horticultural read.
Basically most apples were wild crab apples before him. I think there are few varieties that pre-date him, but none of the good ones.
An apple tart probably was a thing, but it might not have been anyone's favorite dish.

I just don't watch TV anymore. I cancelled my satellite service about 4 years ago and just use Netflix, Youtube, and such. Except at work where I put the lobby TV on the Weather channel and only pay any slight bit of attention while I'm setting up the breakfast.

Oh sad.. No uh when you first start a game of minecraft you have nothing and to get things you need wood so you have to cut a tree down with nothing but the flat of your hand. Boom now your caught up.

Weird.

Weird things are happening with my Favorites, these days.

I can barely tell whether or not I've favorite'd something, because the only indication is the little + or - mark: it no longer shows me if anyone else has favorite'd it or if I have... it just changes the + to a - mark... sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't do it for a while after I've clicked, if at all. And sometimes it just doesn't take. Or it takes and immediately switches back.

I... I don't think I created a new form of FaWtL...?

And gran said his region has lots of deep fried stuff.

Also had a kebab for lunch.

But kebabs are 500-600 calories! Arrrghhhh!

I always eat my kebabs without dressing.
