That said, delegation is an incredibly important skill, and I know incredibly successful people who have built entire careers out of their ability to do the least amount of work possible and get paid for it.
Or is charisma simply not a dump stat? Hm...
Oh, it's not a complete impossibility to become that guy. However, it's quite improbable - as soon as you have upwards of half the department gaming the system, the system has ceased to function. We can't all exploit, or the underlying infrastructure collapses.
As you said, charisma is also a factor. Affable people can convince more coworkers to be onboard with things they might not otherwise agree to. I'll be happier to cover for Jane What Is Always Friendly And Brings Cookies than for Suzy Who Never Smiles And Is Kind Of Creepy. As is who you know. If my uncle brings me into the family business, I can get away with doing an order of magnitude less actual work than Random Joe from accounting and face far less risk of reprisal.
Something else to note is likability - Steve Jobs was quite successful with running a company that seems convinced to deliver less and less each year for a steadily increasing price point. He was also, by all accounts, an insufferable prick. There is a risk to this approach - if you are not a likable person, you had best be the absolute best at what you do to compensate in that department, which goes back to underscore the value of a job well done.

Comforters, sun won't make it through.I have curtains, but that d!ckhole sun gets into my room anyway. One of these days I'm going to take a staple-gun to those curtain edges.All kinds of tired, today. Why? Although I said that I sleep until 10:00, I was rudely awakened by receiving a face-full of sunlight at 8:00. *Grumble* Stupid sunlight has no respect for those that work late. *Grumble*Curtains! Nothing like a Friday when your server farm is two weeks late and counting...
...my three teammates took today off
...I just finished all the work I can possibly do before the servers become available, and my manager and I are just sitting around on a Friday afternoon, giving each other the hairy eyeball: We both want to leave, we're both OK with the other person leaving, but we're both too proud to be the first to leave.
Ah, well, I told her I was out of here at 3:00 pm sharp, so we'll both have an excuse to get off at least a bit early.

I had hoped I could avoid Father's Day this year then in the last two days everyone has been making plans for me, and just assume I'll go along with it.
Why everyone thinks an ideal Father's Day needs a trip outside, an awkward brunch and a bunch of crap I'll never understand.

The problem is that when your personal "Mad Money" budget is $300/month, and your house is already so full of crap that the LAST thing you want is one more useless item, you find that you hurt everyone's feelings when you say, "PLEASE DO NOT GIVE ME ANYTHING! NOT EVEN A T-SHIRT! SERIOUSLY! NOTHING! NOTHING! NA-DA! NOTHING!"
So they get you crap anyway and you sigh and think, "That's another $2400 to store another year's worth of crap I'll never use."
But yeah. A day toodling about San Francisco with the wife, not buying anything, then a nice dinner, a movie on the couch, and an early bedtime.
THAT would be a great Father's Day.
Trouble is, it doesn't particularly involve the kids, does it?
EDIT: OK, I'll be honest. Shiro is radioactive this week and the kids are out of school, so we're likely to spend all day Sunday playing Final Fantasy 'til our fingers bleed, so really it'll probably be a good day AND I won't have to leave the house. Bonus!

Didn't even know there was such a thread. Judging by the total devastation, someone got very pissed off. Glad it's not me. *shudder*
From what little I remember of the original time the thread was posted, a big part of the fighting was a handful of people raising a stink about "religious repression" being the only reason anyone would refuse to pursue a sexual encounter, a contrasting bunch defending religion and associated voluntary abstinence practices, some people in the middle trying as always to come to a more moderate agreement, and the usual popcorn crowd.
I didn't follow the thread after the first page or two, but I remember a lot of hostility to religion and a lot of hostility to asexuality, including several who basically said they could never trust anyone who legitimately claimed to be uninterested as they HAD to be a repressed religious psycho.
The thread was started by someone linking an article about a female athlete who had chosen an abstinent lifestyle for personal and religious reasons, and spiraled from there about how she could only be that way due to religious repression and brainwashing.

I'm glad I started posting late. It seems to me that early on, you couldn't enter a thread without stepping into a minefield.
The no politics rule has made this place much, much less hostile environment. Many good old FAWTLfolk were driven away by the vigor and vitriol of pre-ban Paizo politics discussions and their tendency to leak into all other threads in OTD.

Which...really says some unflattering things about that person. "I cannot relate to you on any human wavelength if there is not a possibility that we can bond over the horizontal tango. That is the extent of my philosophy." I mean, I can understand not getting asexuality. I cannot fathom simply writing a person off over it.

Ouch. My sympathies. My uncle was cow-kicked once while doing farm-work. He was in the Hospital for a month.Thank you John.

But why are horses wearing gaiters and I know hooding a falcon makes them calmer but on horses they have opposite effect?How's your foot today anyway?

Horses are skittish by nature, the fight-or-flight (more specifically the flight respons) response simmers very near to the surface in them.
While dulling or blocking their senses (ie blinders, stuffing cotton in their ears and so on) does calm them somewhat, it also help them focus a bit more as the amount of visual and auditory information that hey have to prosses during training in lessened, helping them focus on the task at hand (not having as many "what's that, I have to look/listen at it for a while" moments).Though try and imagine, if I put a pair of "blinded" glasses and a pair of earmuffs on you, left you alone in a room for 10min and then came in again and started touching your shin or calf, from your blinded angle.
I'm guessing that you might at least flinch a bit too, especially if you hadn't seen me enter the room again.Secondly.
Gaiters are mostly put on younger horses (the stallion in question is almost 3 years old - ie an teenager in human years), as they tend to (as with human children) have imperfect motor skills, especially while they are still growing.
In particular they tend to kick themselves on the inner part of their shins and calfs (ie the inner part of the lower leg from hoof-crown to the knee) during training. This gives them sores and bruises which can, if not treated right, turn into open wounds (which again risks infection), as they keep ripping up the same spots...

I think the fight or flight nature with flight nature generally winning out is due to them being herbivores.
If you put a blindfold and earmuffs on me, I might decide it's a good time to take a nap, and if you touch me later I might go fuzzily, "Uh what?", being too lazy to kick you. Again. Cat.

How to Incense a Lawful Obsessive-Compulsive, brought to you by the DMV:
(1) Make it sound like getting an appointment is important.
If you go to the DMV site, or look at the renewal notice, it specifically says, "Skip the lines! Make an appointment!"
(2) Make the appointment seem valuable.
I made the appointment in early April. It took TWO MONTHS to get ANY appointment at ANY time (I work from home, so I can go any time, any day)
(3) Utterly ignore the appointment.
I arrived at 2:55 pm for a 3:20 pm appointment. There were two lines: One for people without appointments, and one for people with. The one for people with appointments was triple the length. There was never once anyone who asked what my appointment time was, nor even checked to see whether I had one. I just stood in line until 3:45 pm (already 25 minutes late), got to the front, and their entire response was, "Go to the next line."
(4) Have an unbelievably inefficient system.
I had to stand in one line (that ignored appointment times) to check in. Then a second line to RE-FILL A FORM I HAD ALREADY FILLED OUT ONLINE! "I've already filled that out online like the form asked me to."
"I'm sorry, sir, you have to do it here."
"So why did I do it online?"
"I don't know, sir."
Then I had to sit around for half an hour for a window (now 4:30 pm) just to hand over my form and my check. I have no idea why line lady #2 couldn't accept this paperwork, because that was all that line lady #3 did.
I had to stand in a fourth line to get my picture taken, because we all know that digital cameras are SO expensive that the DMV can't afford more than one.
All in all, I saw people with no appointments get out of the building ahead of me, it took me 100 minutes just to renew my license, and there was never any reason I had to be there in the first place. (No tests, no check of my records that they could have done without me there, etc.)Just... infuriating.
Then, just to top matters off, Amazon Restaurants got my order...
DMV just sux. If I booked an appointment at ICA for my new IC, I'd get it done in half an hour. Without it you'd be waiting for 2 hours. Any complaints box?
Also, next time you need to get your license, don't book an appointment.

I'm always frustrated by teachers who do a strict, by-the-book curve because of events such as Impus Major's, but having been the subject of a formal complaint because I used subjective curving, I at least understand why some teachers do it.
But watching Impus Major get straight C's on all the exams leading up to the final, and then suddenly in the last 2 months of class catch fire and get straight A's, then a straight-up A on the final, and end up with a B- in class due to the quality of his previous work was... frustrating.
Understandable. But frustrating.
Grading on a curve has always boggled my mind...
Basically you dont have to be any good... just better then your classmates.
It's like how you don't need to run faster then a bear, you just need to run faster then the guy next to you.

due to my school background, to say nothing of my own anti authorative nature, any class I was in where everyone failed(and that happened once or twice) would face a massive uprising on the part of the students.
Did you have a hand in the uprising, Revolutionist Freehold?

If I get bad grades I'll just go sulk in a corner someplace. I'll get offended when people ask about my grades(usually I won't even talk to people about my grades - its a sensitive subject with me), so I wouldn't even know that the class failed.
Grades are a sensitive subject with me because my brother always outperformed me at school, so I've got quite a bit of the green-eyed monster in me.

Then Vanykrye jokingly said I was a pansy and with the use of an industrial strength strap and chain I was able to get the first step set by the time coworker came back with the forks.
In fairness to Vanykrye I was probably going to do it anyway.

TL's posts often get a surreal quality, where you can either say, "Darn that aneurysm!" or, "Hey, TL! Upgrade to a phone whose autocorrect at least produces grammatically-correct sentences!"
I suspect what he's doing is to use google talk to get his posts out. I wouldn't try typing as much length of his posts. As a result of google talk being not entirely accurate, sometimes TL has no standars.
