Malek would agree

(I don't think he took Agile Tongue feat, did he?)

But then you gotta waste a feat.

It should be included in the original write up.

I drove an hour and a half to Champaign for an oil change. Because it was free. And then they also rotated my tires. For free. And this is why I'm still buying my cars from a dealership in Champaign instead of the one about 6 miles from my house.

And then Zelda called me when I was on my way back to see if I would drop down to Lincoln to grab dinner with her after work. She'll be out of touch for the next 9ish days at a camping retreat.

So I did. Drove about 200 miles today.

Honestly, that doesn't seem too unreasonable to me.

Since I have a hybrid and have to pay for the more expensive oil change, it's usually cheaper to buy the punch card of six at my local Honda dealership in advance... the catch being that they have so much business, you either have to wait in their lounge for an hour and a half to two hours, or have their courtesy driver take you home and pick you up later.

For a freaking oil change.

I would *happily* drive an hour and a half to get it for free.

Er... is there something weird about Honda hybrids?

The Prius gets regular, run-of-the-mill oil changes just like any other car...

Yeah, you have to get full synthetic. You don't have to do that with the Prius? Also, my Civic hybrid doesn't get any better mileage than my beat-up old Civic Coupe did. But it's an '07.

Yeah, I looked it up. Seems to be one of the drawbacks of that particular model. The Prius? It'll eat anything.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Honda's hybrid systems simply aren't as good as Toyota's. Nobody's are as good. The downside of the Prius is that it looks like a Prius.

And around here Prii are simply considered a traffic hazard as every Prius driver is routinely 5-10mph under the limit. May all the gods of all the pantheons help you if you get stuck behind one Prius "passing" another.

Let me guess, that 5-10 under ends the moment you attempt to pass, doesn't it?

That, and they're all fairly addicted to Stardew Valley.

I just got a big turn off for Lord Of The Rings Online. I wanted to buy a month of subscription (finally, after all those years of remaining F2P*)... Except they refuse to take my money. Or more precisely, despite having a PayPal as an payment option, when I try to pay they jump to a window that asks about my card details before proceeding. Which part of I WANT TO PAY WITH PAYPAL, NOT CARD, is hard to understand, dummies?

* actually, I wanted to get a month of subscription before (it gives nice perks, like fast travel between various settlements and unlocked trait slots that have to be purchased individual if you aren't vip) but it usually went: "I'd like to get it but I don't have the money at the moment, ah, well later" followed by "oh, I got money in my PayPal but now I got fed up with LOTRO and I am not playing it at the moment, ah well, later", and repeated a few times.

Yesterday, ALL (DE), her kids and I made stir-fry, then the lady and I watched 'Beastmaster' and drank Polish mead, which is very tasty. Beastmaster was as bad a film as I was hoping it would be.

Today, we went to her friend's birthday party, a two-hour drive away (US FaWlTies: this is a long, long distance for us). We had a picnic in the woods, played French Cricket, I met a man who was even keener on contemporary British jazz than me, then I pulled some small children around on a trolley. At one point, I was giving one small child a piggyback while pulling two others along at the same time, but thankfully not for long.

Then, there was a thunderstorm. As we were underneath an oak tree and didn't fancy being sacrifices to Zeus, we all went home. I ended up having to push ALL (DE)'s car out a ditch. It was pretty good.

Beastmaster 1 or 2 (in the second one there is some time travel to modern times, I think)

And what grade of mead (3x, 2x, 1.5x?)

Beastmaster 1.

Not sure what grade of mead - the brand name began with a 'P' and it was 13%, which probably isn't very helpful...

Because my brother decided every 7 year old should watch Zombieland, Crookshanks will forever hate and fear zombies.

So, no, I probably shouldn't ruin her favorite game ever with zombies.

Edit: Tiny T-Rex would love it though.

Different grades of mead end with different alcohol content.

There is a table for mead grades. It could have been czwórniak (three parts of water per part of honey) or trójniak (two parts of water per part of honey), or it could be better one that got something added that reduced alcohol content.

Err if I have converted correctly 5.67 (167-8 cm) and a size 9.5-10 depending on the shoe (I have abnormally wide feet compared to their length).

Vanykrye wrote:

Ummm…

That's quite a mouthful.

A quick and cheeky answer is that, history at least as a western academic tradition, started with the 5 century BC Greek historians Thucydides and Herodotus*.

Everything there after is Historiography or as you put it a "history of history (as written by and studied by historians)"

*So simplified that it hurts. Today we have entire academic (sub)field dedicated to the study of history before writing!
Or in the words of Edward Hallett Carr (from What is History?):

"...The line of demarcation between prehistoric and historical times is crossed when people cease to live only in the present, and become consciously interested both in their past and in their future. History begins with the handing down of tradition; and tradition means the carrying of the habits and lessons of the past into the future. Records of the past begin to be kept for the benefit of future generations."

Ie, the practice of keep and reproducing oral history is as much a part of the historians work as it is, keeping the very same "traditions" through a written medium...

*Yawns*

Sorry tired…

Eh. Coincidentally last night I helped myself to the peach liquor. My Dad says he'll be going for a trip to Hong Kong come July/August, so on his way back he can hit the duty free shop and get me the cocoa liquor next, so I don't have to be worried about hoarding my remaining supply (think there's enough for one serving left).

Tell me about my mom. She boils water - saying that she's trying to get rid of chlorine, then switches it off the moment the water boils. If you really want to get rid of chlorine, you need to boil water for 20 min- and anyway - its ultimately futile, since you get more chlorine exposure by taking a shower.

Squirrels are rather skittish. Take it from a cat who goes around taking pictures of wild critters.

The squirrels here have no fear. None. They will swarm you if they think you have munchies. I think they may be trying to self domesticate...
