You may get iodine deficiency since you can't take many types of seafood. Stock up on seaweed!

Found out yesterday that Potential Lady Longears (Diamond Edition)'s grandad had 24 children, which makes her one of 84 grandkids. Imagine being able to populate a small village by the fruit of your loins alone... Yikes.

Down here its all refrigerated and even on dinner Salmon sashimi is still good. I prefer Swordfish sashimi but it’s a little harder to get.
Don't really find Tuna or Yellow Tail Sashimi anything great. Rich flavoured fish are better.

Spanish mackerel is known as batang here. It's a decent but not fantastic fish, and usually ends up in fish soups - see entry no. 4.
No one uses it for sashimi here.

It's weird. Shoe repair used to be so common and now its rarer than hens teeth.Oh yes some things are worth spending the extra buck for. Which reminds me, I really should get my walking shoes mended. They got worn a little thin on the soles. The last time my cobbler asked me what took me so long before I finally decided to get my shoes mended...Jealous that you have a cobbler nearby. The ones here all closed up. I've had to learn how to repair my own shoes, which is inconvenient at best.
Matter of costs. Here you can buy cheap shoes for price equal to 6 or 7 hours of work at minimum wage pay. Any major repair to shoes takes a few hours at minimum, sometimes more, so the cobbler would have to ask more than they costed for the repair for his business to make sense, not even counting the materials.
It could make sense in case of much better shoes which can cost 25-75 hours of minimum wage work, but they are usually of much higher quality and don't need repairs for a long time (and if they break early through no fault of yours there are warranties to replace them).

Hm. Thinking of changing my English curriculum for next year. Throw out Taming of the Shrew for something more in line with the US History tie-ins I do with everything else. Be nice to find something contemporary for a look at more modern, less covered history.

You know, if my time in France has convinced me of one thing, it's that Americans need to grow the hell up when it comes to attitudes about alcohol.
Prohibition was a FASCINATING time in american history that lasted longer than most people realize. The fallout from it on socioeconomic, religious, racial and cultural levels stays with us to this day. Prohibition is still in living memory, I think.

I prefer the yellow tail and tuna over salmon. I love grilled salmon, but as sashimi it's just not good to me.

Why is it that in our society, we teach our children that cheating is wrong, but cheating the government is right and proper?
So yet again, we were talking about it at the dinner table, and I pointed out that I wasn't going to be impacted because I report my property taxes legally: You're technically only allowed to deduct the portion listed as "taxes" ($8693.60 for me), and NOT the portion listed as "assessments" ($2234.28 for me). So since I'm only deducting $8700, the new tax law doesn't hit me (yet).
Cue the hue and cry of, "Why aren't you reporting ALL of it? Everyone else does!"
Even my accountant says, "Well, yes, technically you're only allowed to deduct this portion, but pretty much everyone, including most of my other clients, deduct the whole thing, figuring the IRS isn't going to bother checking all of them."
So my friends, my accountant, and "everyone else" chooses to perform tax fraud.
And apparently I'm a "fool" for not joining in.
And the same thing pops up again and again: Only part of your DMV registration is deductible. Only some of your medical expenses are deductible. Etc., etc., etc. Yet I get raked over the coals for obeying the letter of the law.
Yeah, being Lawful, it's a big frustration for me.

Why is it that in our society, we teach our children that cheating is wrong, but cheating the government is right and proper?

because, like a lot of things in life, the crime is getting caught doing something wrong. Also, tax fraud is a VERY murky area with a lot of regulations, practices and traditions that make what is fraudulent to me time saving common sense to someone else(usually a company or corporation).
This is also why i am team chaos.

I don't really care for Taming of the Shrew, again I've always felt women should have the right to speak their minds and not be submissive.
Oh, I completely agree with the women's rights aspect, and the way the characters are presented, Shakespeare seems to agree with that. I've always favored the interpretation that Kate and Bianca get Petruchio and Lucentio completely wrapped around their fingers and are really in charge.

I can live with that. I would give any player those options in the games I run. The problem is I was NEVER given any of those options when I was playing. It was like, "Too bad, suck it."I believe the consensus achieved by countless real-world and forum debates is "House rules are legit, but it's on the DM to think them through, make them known to players, and apply them consistently as house RAW. If the DM feels the need to house rule a character option mid-campaign, players using that option should have the option to retrain, rebuild, or even restart with a new character."
Yeah, bad DMing happens, and it's especially infuriating when bad DMing is inflicted on new players.
Older editions (2e and earlier) were written in a kind of DM-is-king tone which implies that players are always trying to pull a fast one on the DM, and if a player doesn't like something, well too bad. Some online personalities and forums -- usually ones on the OSR spectrum -- carry on this attitude, which is a shame.
