Woo! After weeks of fighting with my insurance, I finally was able to get my prescriptions filled! Victory! ^.^
So anyone really feel like doing math for me?
I like math, but my ADD has decided my concentration needs some time to itself for personal exploration, tap dancing-while-using-cymbals lessons, and staring blankly at a screen.
The problem: four slots, six options.
As the slots are identical, there is no real difference between A/A/A/B and B/A/A/A.
How many unique combinations?
This is strictly recreational and is in no way important to anything. I'm just trying to figure it out for my own purposes and am running up against my own concentration-wall.

This is a remarkably difficult problem. It's not nPi nor nCi, so you end up with 6*6*6*6 to get all the possibilities, then you have to subtract out all the duplicates.
And subtracting out the duplicates is... non-trivial.
It's now my "problem of the afternoon". Whee!

I'm trying to clear out the garage freezer so I can thoroughly clean it out before summer. Which means we're getting into long-standing stores of meats that I bought for guests.
Tonight I have an 8-pound peeled USDA choice beef loin. Basically think filet mignon, but a wee bit bigger.
And we did steaks from it a few nights ago, so tonight I'm going to chunk some up with my homemade teriyaki sauce and do a stir fry.
Yep. NobodysHome is using filet mignon to make broccoli beef.

For each combination, there are 24 permutations.
Divide combinations by 24 to get 6*3*3=54 possibilities?

It's exactly what you think it should be, but it doesn't take into account the multiple duplicities; for example, AABB doesn't get subtracted out correctly.
I was looking at the same thing, but if you look at 4 letters and 2 slots (a much more tractable problem), you'd get 4*4/1*2 = 8, but you can list out the 10:
AA AB AC AD BB BC BD CC CD DD
As I said, it's a really fun problem because all your initial thoughts of using permutations don't work.

Ah, Spring! That time your weekends get ridiculously overbooked, and it's all entirely your own fault!
April 8-9: Chaperoning the high school to Disneyland. Woo hoo!
April 15-16: Running Crimson Throne for lisamarlene. Woo hoo! And Whingy Wizard. Woo hoo?
April 22-23: NobodysWife's and Impus Major's birthday weekend, with Favorite Uncle coming down for HIS birthday as well. It will be an... eventful weekend.
April 29-30: Chaperoning the middle school to Great America. Woo hoo!
May 6-7: Bats in the Sun at Disneyland, where my brother and I wear khakis and Hawaiian shirts and hang out with Goths, who shun us most prodigiously. All kinds of fun. Woo hoo!
So somehow I think work on the garage has stalled for a couple of months. (Speaking of something I'd rather pay someone else to do but can't afford...)
Ah yes, the end of April, every father's nightmare, when Pea Bear turns 13 and officially becomes a teenager.
So... I now have my "answer"... technically... but, uh... I realized what I asked wasn't, exactly, what I was looking for, because it seems that it doesn't take into account the options of "null" or non-answers.
In other words: [-], A, A, A
... or: [-], [-], A, A
Does anyone know if that would simply be adding another +1 to the variable (so, for example instead of having 6 options, it would be 7)? It seems like that would be the case, but... I'm just... I'm brain-fried enough to doubt my intuition at this point.
And, just in case you're wondering what made me ask this question...
... so I was thinking about the original Final Fantasy game, which allows you four characters, which can be selected from six classes, with overlaps allowed.
... then I was thinking of Isaac Arthur's various awesome videos. Specifically, I was thinking about the Fermi Paradox questions (more specifically the Simulation Hypothesis) and the various other topics that touch, however lightly, on the Many Worlds hypothesis.
... then I went into thinking about the Erfworld Predictamancy conceit that "hardly anything matters" - the echo of my own thoughts concerning the possible re-collapse of various Many Worlds back into singular instances; so, in general, it does not greatly matter to really anything at all that you had salad or chicken for lunch and the other for dinner a week ago today, especially if you had both in your refrigerator at the same time, and they've both been well-processed and sent on. By this point, there is no functional difference in the two realities, as history has passed enough relative time to make it irrelevant. This also dovetailed into thoughts that I'd had related to this on the 'Zelda series - that it's quite possible that Breath of the Wild is a "true" sequel to all the timelines, as it no longer matters which of the outcomes happened before: they were all going to end like this.
... then I was thinking of White Lightning (now "Door Monster")'s YouTube Spy-themed Gameshow videos Counter/Intelligence, and the premise that they were blasted through time and had to reconstituted their videos in whatever order was possible.
... all of which collided (via the last two thoughts in a feedback loop) into a spectacular train wreck of, "Holy carp, I really have to know how many different worlds there are!" and proceeding to slam my forehead into a wall of a lack of concentration. Now I'm just after the number and equation and logic - all of which elude a headache me -, though I'm still mildly curious about the initial problem, too.
Really weird and pointless and banal, but then again... that's often me!

Hive mind thought request:
I have been with brinkster for about 16 years with them hosting my moribund website and family email accounts. They have been....less than awesome the last few months. Am considering a new email/web hosting service.
Thoughts? Recommendations? Reasons?
This is about 10 email accounts, primary email for some of them, secondary for others...but not high volume. At least one account is also used heavily for calendar purposes (think white collar professional with teenage triplets trying to keep track of everything sort of volume).
The website is lots of pictures, but extremely low volume traffic. Has not been updated in a few years, but I keep meaning to come back to it.
If you need other data about usage patterns on which to base recommendation, please let me know.
Squarespace? I've never used them, all I know is they sometimes advertise on RoosterTeeth stuff, but it didn't seem anyone else had any ideas, either. At least they might be worth checking out?
I can say that, yeah, I have no particular idea, and haven't used it, but I've seen Squarespace advertised on places like PBS Idea Channel, and a few other channels I've watched.
Sorry I'm not more help! I just... didn't have any ideas...
