I find malls dull at the best of times, and overstimulating at the worst.
But then, I've never been a window- nor a spree-shopper.
Sunday is Valentine's Day, there are certain kinds of stores there that cater to my needs to at least keep up a facade of classiness.. :-)
Edit: see, classy.

Apparently Google does... I know those red stools! And there are even reviews.
Doesn't sound much like a gay bar any more, and there are no steaks on the menu at all (BOO!) but that's definitely the place.
TL? Road trip?
But... but... no steaks... :(
More seriously, I tend to avoid any place that flaunts its "target" orientation, no matter what that orientation is, and a strong alcohol smells tends to make me dizzy and headachy... but if those things are avoidable, and it's FaWtLians, than I'm game*!

I used to love them for three reasons:
1) It was an information source. I was able to glean hints about all the trends and crazes that I, personally, never cared about, but that all my friends loved.
2) Food courts. They're basically the best.
3) Book stores. If a mall lacks book stores, it is* dead to me. (Yes, this even supersedes the Food Courts, hard as that may be to believe.)
* (usually, practically)
Otherwise, yeah, I tend to agree. Especially now, when I can go to dedicated bookstores, then drive to wherever I want. When I go out with my kids, however (rare as that actually is), it might prove pretty handy if I don't have to pack them up and move them out again...

Oh, just a Long Island jew I used to know.
Thanks for the reminder, it's my first V-day with the gf. :)
Is there such a thing as too much chocolate? That was her Xmas gift...

You have (had?) a point. Food and books are two of my favoritest things. :)

You've got, like, 15 minutes to tell me.

Tea/soda-marinated steak? How does that taste? O_o It's certainly not something I would have thought to do, but if it's good, I'll give it a shot.
I mean, I'm going to be marinating burgers in a garlic-based sauce when I get home in a couple hours, so I'm certainly no stranger to unusual flavor combinations. I've just never considered this particular one.

Dunno. That's why I was curious about it. My dad used to do something vaguely quasi-similar on the grill^, and I loved it... but this isn't a grill, sooooo... *shrug*
^ According to my memory, anyway.

Meat can be marinated with anything.
I need to do more cooking, i got in a rut of breakfasts, lunches, and dishes. by the time supper rolls around, I'm usually so tired of the kitchen, the general takes care of it (i walk the dog, which is it's own trial of fortitude, at least in winter) but yeah, need to work on that. :-)

This worked pretty well.
What I actually ended up doing was a bit different, since I hadn't really let the time I needed to marinate first, and even though it had been in the fridge overnight, it still felt extremely cold (though probably not frozen) in a few different places.
So anyway, warm water in the sink helped it "thaw" more a tad (though indirect - I'm not pouring water on the meat), though I limited that to something like a minute. I put the broil on 'Hi' for a while before starting (about 20 minutes over all) and warmed the broil pan for about 5-7 minutes before putting the steak on it.
During that time, I put sea salt/garlic salt/garlic powder (a bit of each that added up to a fair amount, though not overwhelming), onion powder, and basil seasoning, and I massaged it in. My left hand really ached from the cold. I made sure to put it on one side, massage as much as possible; flip and repeat (getting the sides and any cracks with each pass-through).
I put the steak on the warmed broil pan.
The meat was thicker than I thought when looking at it in the package... definitely a cause for slower warm up.
The cooking times were off as a result.
I put it on for three minutes and it looked good on the outside, then flipped it, and did so again. It was still raw on the inside - not rare, but actually uncooked. Ranging from five-to-six minutes more with a few pull-and-checks in between flips (I really tried to limit the flipping, but I also really didn't want to just blacken one side entirely).
Toward the end, when the inside of the main part was finally "rare" temperature, I added some Coca-Cola to the thing and put it in for a few more minutes. This enabled the middle to get up to medium, at which point I ended it. It was left with a puddle of liquid where the soda was pooled previously (though it didn't look like soda anymore...), and let it cool. I ate the edge - the part that, by now, was well-done and dry, but dipping it in the liquid in the middle was great and added great moisture and flavor right back into that puppy.
Aaaannnd... that's it. Thanks, FAWTL! :D

I bet Blue Oyster Cult never imagined that their music would be used to soundtrack pyjama repair- BUT NOW IT HAS! Buck Dharma must be thrilled.
I made egg fried rice a little while ago, which was very nice. I also suspended a curtain ring from the ceiling and tried to stab it, without much success.
Could have gone to sparring, but didn't fancy a three-hour round trip on a Saturday night.
Captain, what's the General wielding in that photo?

She is wielding a Beagle, on the trail of something, from last fall.
Your day sounds productive and fun, think i might tape some shit to the ceiling a stab at it with something, nothing formal tho. :-)

I'm reading through the series again and just started So Long and Thanks for All the Fish a couple days ago.
While I recognize that, in tone and setting, there was really little option for "ending" the series in any other way, I am no where nearly as fond of that segment as others.
Otherwise, though, yeah, the whole thing was pretty great, and I enjoyed enough parts of So Long and Thanks for All the Fish to enjoy that... it's just in compared to the rest that it wasn't as fun or enjoyable (to me).

Douglas Adams was good. Silly, and he really trails off in quality in that quintet as time goes on, though. The detective books don't hold up with time either. Still; he was way ahead of his time.
Terry Pratchett took that style of writing and combined it with actual plots you can follow and characters you give a crap about.
With Pratchett dead, Christopher Moore is my new favorite living author. He has the same style, but does more historical fiction or other weird fantasies and sci-fis that aren't quite as traditional.
Lamb:The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Best Pal is easily one of my top three novels I've read. He didn't a lot of research, it was REALLY funny, and it had a good plot, even if you know how it ends. Apparently, Mary was the original MILF, according to Biff.
His three vampire books, Bite Me, You Suck, and Bloodsucking Fiends, are also quite entertaining.
