Just one little speedbump left between me and new apartment, it looks like. I finally tracked down the right phone number and contacted the people I owe that final bill to. For some bizarre reason they don't take payments over the phone. So I'm waiting for a reply to my email. They said within 24 hours - you've got til lunch, guys.

Good news is, if I can straighten it all out this week, everything at the credit bureaus updates their info around the 15th of the month, so I'll be all ready to swing down to the apartment next week, re-apply, and things should fly through smoothly.

Good luck! I'll be happy for you when this is all behind you.

Does it have something to do with that roll of mints in your fur?

Mentos, the Freshmaker!

Eaten some BBQ pulled pork with coleslaw and potato salad. Now time to make sandwiches to work. Or maybe I shouldn't bother?

I might have eaten more than I have thought.

Meh. I want to stay and sleep some more.

Three weeks. Three weeks.

No sandwiches. What I have in my tummy must suffice.

Duh. Time to turn off the laptop and get up.

Toe's in pain (not broken, but in bad shape), I have a mild headache, and I haven't gotten much progress in the layout for my book in the last few days.

Saying that I feel frustrated and upset would be an understatement. On the bright side, went to see Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday, and had a fun GURPS session on sunday.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm also glad you had some good stuff in the mix.

We had a decent holiday at Weissenhäuser Strand (a resort up by the Schledwig-Holsteiner Baltic coast) when I was 10 or 11 - might be worth checking out when Marlon's a few years older.

(We went in the winter, though, because my youngest brother had spent most of the summer getting treatment for the side-effects of his leukemia-treatment. So we never really got to visit the actual strand)

Fear for me, FAWTL.

Tomorrow I and but a handful of others will stand strong against the tide of an invading army.

But this is not the invasion force..but a scouting mission. The greenest among the frontliners. They may be the least trained among them, but their numbers eclipse our meager personnel exponentially.

I fear I may not survive Freshman Frenzy.

Speaking of ready, I'm not packed for GenCon yet, and we're leaving tomorrow morning. I'm going to finish this freelance assignment, and I hope to get a monster done for Friday.

Random thoughts at work today...

I noticed that not one of my friends ever tried to set me up on a date or introduced to a female to get us hooked together. Now I wonder if this means that they considered hooking me with someone unnecessary, me being a hopeless cause, or just didn't considered me at all? The last one is probably the most likely... Apparently I am quite forgettable for some reason.

Have I mentioned that one time, when (after many perturbations) friends reactivated campaign forum. After over a year someone told me as a matter of fact of something discussed on that forum.

Drejk: What forum?
Friend: Well, you know, the reactivated Fading Suns one (pause) we told you about reactivated forum, don't we?
Drejk: *stares meanigfully*
Friend: We didn't?
His brother: Well, that explains why Drejk wasn't posting much on it...

Different situation, different friend. I got a message late in the afternoon about friends sitting in a pub.
Friend: Most people are still at work, busy, or tired after work. We thought long who we could call and couldn't think of anyone, until we remembered about you...

Well, some folks do remember about me (or maybe it's just sending invite to everyone on FB friend list): I just got invitation for a wedding in late September in a city a few hours of train travel away from me.

Spoiler:
Gorbacz is getting married!

Have a safe trip and Enjoy! I really enjoyed playing at your table at last year's special.

I am just looking through new D&D DM section of basic rules...

Slaadi are listed as example of aberrations. I am not sure how will Ambrosia feel about that.

Monster HD size is based on its actual physical size. Medium creatures use d8... Gargantuan uses d20! Interesting.

Bestiary section looks nice. I have yet to reach magic item section.

Don't you get fresh with me, young man! I'll drop-kick you into a pool of Diet Coke and watch you explode! I may even toss in a few cases of Pop Rocks for good measure.

Just got hired for a new job. Pay's pretty good. Not sure how long it will last, though.

Where's the catch?

Morning. Two and a half week at work remaining.

*sings*

Why does it always rain on me?
Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

Employees must wear short-shorts at all times. Neon green ones.

Actually, come to think about it - men's shorts have gotten a bit long. Unless you're in a job that needs a lot of pockets, there's no reason for them to stop below mid-thigh. Let's give the girls (and some of the other boys) something hairy to gawk at.

Meanwhile, women's fashion has relocated to the grand Pocket Desert and primarily switched to offering us the insulting sacrifice of the decorative fake pocket.

My mind is constantly boggled by how can a woman leave home wearing pants without pockets... I would go insane without pockets.

Note that dues to work requirements our pants don't have pockets...

GRAGGARAGGH! *chews scenery*

That's because you can put things in your stomach-pouch, duh.

Spoiler:
I have a two-puece suit where the jacket has fake pockets. If I ever meet the designer responsible there will be violence.

That would be so incredibly uncomfortable and awkward. God I'm glad I never wear shorts outside the house. Long pants all the time. I haven't been comfortable with wearing shorts in public in years.

It's all about getting them in a soft enough fabric.

No, no it isn't =P

I wear long pants all the time except when I am home. Black/blue jeans. And heavy boots as well. Sometimes people look at me funny in summer.

Same. Well, minus the boots, I get by with tennis shoes. And even when I'm in the privacy of my own home I'm not comfortable in anything shorter than knee-length.

Drejk wrote:

1. I have terrible luck with jobs. Businesses that I sign on with always seem to either go through massive cutbacks or simply go out of business.

2. I'm going back to school full-time in the spring for electrical maintenance, and I don't know if I would be able to get my hours cut down to where I could work and go to school at the same time.

3. Climbing telephone poles to hook up cable lines during the winter is never a good scenario, especially if you're deathly afraid of heights.

Same. I only wear shorts if it's ridiculously hot outside, or if I'm backpacking.

Blah, blah, blah... Calling to Her Majesty's Revenue is pain in back... Already six minutes at hold. They want to discourgae me from getting my 360 pounds, don't they?

Twelve minutes. Damn, I'll ignore shower if I have too...

Took a total of 20 minutes, with 12 minutes of waiting. They will be sending me a check. Hopefully it will arrive before I leave.

Muhhahah.

Form to be filled for Tax Office when one leaves UK for longer period of time has entry for Nationality with listed examples as "British, Polish, French"... Coincidence?

Sorry for the random question, but my search-fu is weak and I figured someone here might know.

The question itself is how many people would generally be required to supply and equip a standing fighting force of 200 soldiers? The cooks, foragers, armorers, fletchers, bowyers, etc...

3 people marked this as a favorite.

assuming wheeled transportation and solid organization, you could get away with as few as 20 camp attendants and probably another 30 craftsmen, cooks, armorers, etc

anything less organized, not having access to wheeled carts or if cavalry is a factor and you could be looking at a baggage train/camp follower contingent that is as big, if not bigger, than the amount of trained soldiers

^ Sounds about right to me ^
