I am upstate for my friend's wedding, and John just spent the last 7 hours at the airport trying to join me before they finally decided to cancel his flight. At one point, they boarded a plane, and then unboarded because "the plan had too much fuel". What the hell.
He is not coming. He has no way to get here.

Dad's progress is very slow, but at 88 we'll take what we can get.

Damn. That sucks.
Just got my rear tire on my bike replaced as the earlier tire was falling apart quite literally. There is no comparison with respect to the ride I experience now. Its so smooth its like I'm gliding instead of riding. May also replace the front tire in a few weeks to double my proverbial pleasure.

Good morning FAWTLY Folk! Happy Saturday! Woke up to the boy (somewhat) quietly sitting on the sofa and playing with his digital camera. Then he and I sat watching TV for a bit.
Now coffee is in my cup, biscuits are in the oven, and we're waiting for a second episode of Paw Patrol. Such an exciting life I lead.

Made it to the new place in Potton. Things are starting to come together. Caught up on sleep. And the cat is almost settled in. Hope all is well back in North America

The wedding was a lot of fun! I would have rathered John was there, but it was a fun time nonetheless.

I guess you can't take fuel out of the aircraft?
I too am surprised there is not a way to siphon fuel out of an aircraft.
Apparently, the plane was fueled up for a longer flight, and they then wanted to use the plane for this short one. I guess it makes sense that they want to limit how much fuel is in the plane when it lands, in case anything goes wrong at that point.
But wouldn't they know that before they boarded all the passengers on the plane?

Ok I am no expert on aeronautics(although I did stay at a holiday inn express last night). But I assume a basic design element of an aircraft is the ability to take off and land with a full tank(s) of fuel and a full passenger load.
So screw you delta and your weak sauce policy!

The issue for the fuel thing has to do with MLW (Maximum Landing Weight). Flight plans (and fuel loads) are designed so that the airplane will have a certain amount of fuel upon arrival. Going over that amount of fuel means added weight on the plane, which equates to added stress on the landing gear, airframe, and runway.
If the plane was loaded for a longer flight, that much fuel would be fine for take-off and flight to a closer airport, but not enough fuel would be burned in-flight to bring the total load below the MLW.
It was always a frustrating thing for me to watch Navy aircraft recover on the carriers I was stationed on, because they almost always had to dump fuel in order to get below the max weight limit. Lots of money wasted; unfortunately, mission requirements change and you have to do what you must in the name of safety. Airlines aren't willing or able to spend as much on fuel as the U.S. military. They'd rather inconvenience customers than have to pay for wasted fuel...not to mention trying to explain to why they're dumping thousands of pounds of fuel in mid-air right before making their approach.

Civic duty towards EU democracy taken care of. Now to wait for the result and hope the various right wing extremists (Sweden Democrats, Ukip, Jobik, Front National, True Finns, Lega Nord, and so on) doesn't do too well.
And while I didn't vote for them, I kinda hope Feminist Initiativ nabs a seat just flr the reaction it'll cause among men's right groups and the like).

GOOD Morning FAWTL land. There is a bird here somewhere living in HD's back yard. It wakes me up around 730 each morning. I have no need of an alarm. It however may reach its final days very very shortly.0730? I wish I could sleep that late. What's it like? Is it as wonderful as I remember?
As I have been out of work for a bit I can say that sleeping until 10 or so has been wonderful. More than wonderful it deserves a new word maxispetacularwonderful. When however you have stayed up late with a bunch of FAWTL and drinking this strange brew that they insist is good for you called beer and then this damned thing wakes you...
