I have arrived safely in College Station.

Merry Christmas!

Seems my brother gave me the sniffles for Christmas.

Gonna self-medicate with some experimental drinking: julmust and rum.

Damn. I just learned that a friend died. Still waiting for more information - another of his friends found him dead at home after he could not contact him for a few days - went to him to check and noticed light in window despite no one answering and then returned with his mother.

He was a bit over 40, 42, I think...

You have my belated condolences.

Merry Christmas. I still have msot of you on my Christmas Card list, but because of how hectic it has been around here, much as last year they will be out late. So if you get a card from me late, well I am sure many know why. Sorry, doing the best I can right now.

Once again I hope you all have a wonderfull holiday season.

It maybe months before I can hope to be on regular again or putting in more than one poorly typed post.

hi CJ,

good to see you here, even briefly

I hope you and your family are well

Merry Christmas and best of luck

+1

Why do I always seem to have the worst insomnia the night before I have to drive across the state?

It doesn't happen to me every time, but it sure did this time.

I gave up trying to sleep by around 2 am and just got ready and left for College Station early.

Many of my gifts this year revolved around bacon and zombies! FAWESOME!

Scarab Sages

And, of course, there was much bacon this morning.

Bacon brain?

Scarab Sages

My sister-in-law received a Keurig coffee maker - same model as my own. Needless to say, I'll have to visit her apartment.

We had no bacon :-( gf's sister and brother in law are Jewish. I want baccy!

No bacon as well. *finished eating today's meal of pork braised in apples and peaches*

Merry Xmas Everyone.

A joyous Christmas to everyone.

*DSX hands out bacon presents*

Too bad you missed ToP with this one! Would have been totally FAWKWARD!

My family spoils me. I got a Microsoft Surface with keyboard. Seems they want me to get started again on writing.

Merry Christmas to you all!

FAWESOME!

So tired. House full for dinner. My mom, and all six of my siblings. Add spouses/significant others, a niece, two nephews, and a couple of my sons' girlfriends and it's been hectic. If all of the family showed up at one time.../shudder, hehe. We save those for outdoors.

Hope everyone's day was full of fun.

For my friends that are struggling, please know that you were in my thoughts today and I wish you better days ahead.

Love ya guys.

How is the Houston FAWTL contingent?

I heard you guys got hit with a couple of tornadoes and had some power loss.

My sister made an awesome prime rib for dinner. :)

Liberty's Edge

The day began with the traditional Christmas awkward silence, then moved on to the traditional Christmas b@*!!ing session, and finally to the traditional Christmas screaming match. I ended up leaving a day and a half early, halfway through dinner. Now I remember why I don't ever go back to my folks' place for the holidays. Isn't life wonderful?

This can be a rough time of year.

Good morning FAWLY Folk! Happy day after Christmas! Sitting here in my parents living room watching Mickey Mouse and listening to the boy try to sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

Scarab Sages

And, of course, I may now be coming down with a cold. Hoping not, but it would be just my luck.

Time to go get some coffee.

Morning folks. Passed out after spending the day with mom and attempting to make my way through my holiday call list. I missed a lot of people, and I'm going out again tonight- will attempt to finish the list tomorrow after I get in from work. I should be going down to VA to visit my wife and father- and grandmother-in-law. She is also going to take the GMAT while she is down there.

Had an interesting Christmas.

On one hand, it was the coldest Christmas we've had in a century (about 7 C°. Keep in mind we're in Summer down here!), some rain included.

On the other hand, one of my cousins came out of the closet. Everyone took it pretty good.

Then one of my uncles died. He had been terminally ill for about three weeks now; massive heart failure. The funeral is in a few hours; I'll be crying my eyes out. Man I really loved that guy. I'll miss him greatly. God rest his soul.

Also, my brother gave me a XIX-century sword-cane. I still have no idea where he found it, but it's pretty awesome.

Other than that, had the chance to spend time with my whole family (which, due to its size and geographical distribution, is something hard to do), something which I thoroughly enjoy.

And the food was awesome. I just can't have enough turkey with duchess potatoes and hot apple sauce.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Klaus.

But good to hear about the reactions to your cousin.

Achoo!

(Yeah, not funny.)

Alternative interpretation of Kajehase's post:

Pity me, for I have the sniffles bad!

On the plus side I'm preparing to buy the last still-in-print-and-not-ridiculously-expensive Pathfinder books I don't have, as well as the Midgard Campaign Setting, and my brother gave me the Lillyhammer boxed set for Christmas - soon I'll be watching an alternative version of the Sopranos's Silvio Dante do Norway.

And if I can sleep for a few hours I should be able to get up in time for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on TV - so I really ought to stop complaining.

Chai is a bloody stupid name for a specific tea blend - it's just the word tea in another language for Ganesha's sake.

Julmust with rum in it - much lesser than the sum of its parts.

Grapejuice with Jameson's whiskey is surprisingly good, on the other hand.

It's a mixer - we have it with whisky.
- The Absolutely Fabolous character Edina explaining to her friend Patsy what water is.

Hmm... should I try to come up with enough new posts to make Top of the Page before lunch?

There's better ways to spend Boxing Day, but I just don't have the energy for it.

Got a biography of the Clash for Christmas, made up of interviews with the members, and a few texts written by themselves during the band's heyday. Bit surprised to notice that when it came to prose (as opposed to just shooting your mouth off), Mick Jones was/is probably more articulate than Joe Strummer.

Also started watching a recent documentary about Olof Palme - and now I'm kinda wishing I'd been born earlier, so my only real memory of him wasn't waking up one morning when I was six to find my parents watching the news on TV talking about him having been assassinated.

I mean, how plausible is that something the current Swedish education minister says would have any kind of reaction in Washington beyond a shrug?

Am I there yet?
