Are any of you FAWTLies fans of Dr. Who? I never watched the original series, or the reboot, until I happened to catch the first couple of episodes of the reboot on my local PBS station a couple of weeks ago. Then I discovered the series is available via Netflix streaming, and I seem to have gotten myself hooked. I've watched about half of the first season, and I have some observations:

** spoiler omitted **

I am! I am! I tried to watch some of the older stuff, but YouTube has very limited video availability of the original series, and what they do have BBC is quickly going through and having pulled down, sadly.

Spoiler:
1. Silly they may be, but deadly nonetheless. The funnyness quickly becomes secondary to the "Oh CRAP not the Daleks" reaction.
3. That's one of the big complaints of the reboot - apparently the older series was all over the place as far as locales go, but the new one has done very little off-world traveling, electing just to hop timelines on good ol' Earth.

I've been hoping they'll get around to more worldhopping in the next season, but I'm not getting my expectations up. Nonetheless Moffat is a great writer (if a bit sadistic, as you'll see - he took over the reins from Davies after Tennant's run ended and Smith's began) and the story entertaining nonetheless, it's more missed potential than actual badness.

So far, I've only seen Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, and I like him very much, but all the fans of the show that I know seem to think David Tennant is better. (Except for those who think Tom Baker is the One True Doctor.) I'm looking forward to judging for myself. :) And I expect that once I get caught up with the current series, at least one of my friends is going to make me watch her DVDs of the original series.

Spoiler:
I watched the 'The Empty Child' episode of Dr. Who yesterday, and decided NOT to watch the second of that two part series right before bed, because it was too creepy. I liked the first part, but I have nightmares too easily to want to watch creepy stuff and then go right to bed. :P

I prefer Smith myself, with Eccleston as a close second. Tennant's my least favorite of the new batch. They're all very good, but some are more "Doctor"ish than the others. Tennant was too angsty and, for lack of a better term, too human for me to appreciate him in the role the way I do Smith and Eccleston. He lacks the essential weirdness. ;P

I'm unfortunately not familiar enough with the rest to make a judgement, even Baker.

Spoiler:
That's one of the best episodes of the entire reboot. "Blink" would be one of the others, and it's even creepier.

I like Dr. Who. I got started with Tom Baker and watched it for a bit. Then the new series came out and I have been really enjoying it.

Maybe I should try watching it again since I'm on ADHD meds. I'd either wander off or fall asleep before.

Being pretty ADHD myself I was very prone to pausing mid-episode at a commercial break and going to do something else for a while if my interest started flagging. Most of the episodes were fairly gripping though so it wasn't an issue, but a few of them were slow or just not as interesting as the rest.

If that's an option - watching online, or via NetFlix - I'd recommend it be available. =)

Spoiler:
Not proposed, he just handed me the notice of change, but hopefully not the final status. It was kind of here ya go, without any discussion of the added responsibilities. Didn't think we'd be discussing that until I had a chance to prove myself. No title change. Got blindsided.

My outgoing boss recommends bringing it up again when I've 'proven' myself. 'In lieu of my added responsibilities...'

At least it's immediate.

I don't know enough about the chronology of the show (yet) to know which Doctor is which number. Now that I'm watching it, though, I'm sure I'll pick some of that up by osmosis. :)

Warning:
Do not try, for your sanities sake to understand the Chronology. I have a book that attempts to do, and fails. At best it shows you all four, or is it five, variant realities and timelines.

Also While #9 tends to stay fairly close to Earth, #10 and #11 do in fact get off planet an awful lot. Even coming into contact with Non-human races from time to time. Yet as with most stories in the long running series the Dr. stays near humanity through it's history. #8 did have a bit of an explanation. However it is oft repeated during #11's stories that the Dr. Lies... a lot.
