Female Human init +7 Transmuter 6 HP 38/38, AC 13*,13, 10* (* +4 for mage armor) saves +3, +5, +6

Alright so proposal for month 35:

Expand our territory and save for a castle in Tatzleford. Currently have 7 bp and no unrest. Spend 6bp to claim 1 plains hexes and 1 hills hex, road both, move 1 farm to the hill hex and buy another farm on the plains hex. DC increases by 2 consumption stays the same. Sell 3 items and generate income. Hopefully get a good start on the castle expense.

Any changes or feedback I am willing to adjust. (Just trying to get he ball rolling.)

In order to afforda an army, we need more farms to reduce our consumption. Thus the reason I am for expanding our hexes to get those farms.

The Exchange

Month 35? Wow, I didn't realize we went through 10 months this last weekend.

The following are things that are happening during your months of Kingdom Building. I thought maybe while we stat out the kingdom, we could also do some role-playing. (And move some plot lines along ;)

Please only read your posts. If the others want you to know what theirs say, they need to post it themselves or state that they allow you to read theirs. For information on how to post spoilerriffic information, see the BBCode tags.

ALL:

General Akiros informs the council that he fears that the kingdom is open to attack and that some of the bandit lords from the River Kingdoms may begin feeling brave enough to infiltrate and take over. "Defenses must be built. We need a standing army. Even if it is only a couple hundred soldiers. We need something to say we can defend ourselves!"

Marshall Kesten agrees with Akiros. "We should station a small contingent on the border to the River Kingdoms. We should claim land and send a small contingent so that we can man the dwarven outpost you found."

Magister Beldame asks, "Why haven't we begun educating the commoners? If we are to grow and prosper, we need our people to be able to think for themselves and create new and exciting things."

High Priest Jhod simply states, "People need to better populate the kingdom. And grow together as a community. We should add festivals to bring the population together. Give them a commonality, a national identity."

Treasurer Oleg gruffly speaks, "Our economy still struggles to keep up with our neighbors. We barely get by and we struggle to grow. We must construct more buildings that increase our production."

Lily is just happy to have Esmond home for more than a week.

Selena:

Gifts given to you by Prince Ivoretti:
Silver necklace with a finely crafted bow and arrow made of gold hanging from it. You recognize it as a symbol of Erastil.
An gem encrusted gold armband.
A beautiful ring with an emerald setting.
Pictures of these gifts are on your character page.

Prince Ivoretti still hasn't given up on you. He still visits, though not as often. He is always courteous, and flattering.

Mal Varn will not sleep with you. He is too honorable for that. So whatever you thought you were doing the last time we played. It didn't happen. He takes you on long walks through the woods, and enjoys time spent with you, even if you don't do anything. His latest gift includes an assortment of rare blooms from Cheliax and Anafa, Lissa, and Marra from Restov.

Allard:

Late one night, after most had gone to bed, there is a knocking on your door. As you open the door, a familiar face stands before you. He is the man that you had been tailing a while back. The one from Pitax that you believe is spying on your kingdom. He appears to be unarmed and alone. He holds his hands palms up in front of him and asks, "May we talk?"

Esmound:

After a few months enjoying the newlywed life, Lily comes to you mid-morning after running errands. "Esmond, I have something to tell you." She sits you down in a chair and pulls another around the table so that she may sit across from you. She takes your hands into hers and looks into your eyes. Tears begin to stream down her face. She stammers for a moment, "I...I am with child."

Ghuar:

In your wanderings through your kingdom, you notice that the fey you call friends, seem to avoid you while you are traveling.

Is there anything/anyone you wish to visit while completing your duties as Warden?

Theod:

I need a Perception check.

Brianna:

Your efforts to scry on Prince Ivoretti stop working. You haven't been able to scry on him for a couple of months now.
The Old Beldame thanks you for building the Witch's hut. She feels more at home and appreciates the addition of another witch that she can confide in when you are not around.

I'm still thinking about the Windmills. But I'm thinking they can only be built in a farmed hex with no other improvements. Give a +1 Economy, +1 Stability, -1 BP Consumption. Cost 8 BP. Just what I'm thinking at the moment.

The Exchange

I will be posting a map of what you have explored thus far later today. This should help you in determining what hexes you want to claim. We could even do some exploring via forum if you would like.

shieldknight:
I was just going along with what you were saying about my actions. By no means did any of those perceived actions actually take place, but I did tell him I would be out for a while. Even though I have chosen Mal, that does not mean that Ivoretti is completely out of the equation.

Liberty's Edge

Ghuar:
Ghuar will be investigating the reason why the fey are somewhat less friendly or are intentionally avoiding my approach. If I have to approach each of the "fey friends" naked...lol...I'll make sure they have no reason to fear me without reprisal or concern. I will let only Theod and Allard know of my potential fey problem only after I can investigate further. If we have somehow forgotten a promise, like planting certain trees as promised...I will make sure it's done before I make the attempt to communicate with them. I have 3 potions of speak w/animal, my perception is +11 (can be higher) when I need it and my survival is +9 for any checks, I will attempt to speak to our animal friends around the outskirts of the fey regions as well for any minor info. My bane weapon and cursed ring will be left behind, unless after speaking w/animals their is cause for concern vs. fey. I will protect myself with Protection from Evil while I'm out and about investigating.

Liberty's Edge

I will be talking to the local magister and our "baron/king", asking for the adoption of the young girl "discarded" by her parents.

I have a sizable amount of money (8k+), which I will use to find and purchase a home, services of a nursemaid/warrior (vetting her with the assistance of High Priest Jhod) and start her formal education (in the wilderness) as soon as she can walk.

The formal request made to the lord and magister is a formality, so that everyone know she is under my protection.

I will ask the local Magister to setup extra protection on all our "new charges" in and around the Monastery due to some recent concerns.

As Warden, I will be spending quite a bit of time speaking to the outlying farms and homes owner with my new companion/Owlbear, Korr. First to introduce Korr to the general public and to use him and his fantastic scent/search in my keeping the well being of my country and charges.

I have been actively searching for "followers" or worthy soldiers to start my new future "Pack". My search for these worthy applicants were exclusively for druids, rangers and barbarians. Since I recently took the "Leadership" feat, I also will be actively trying to create a more "leader" like persona...only growling and threatening in public if a show of force is needed.

As of now, I will be using my new "Pack" to create a network of runners. My pack consist of 5 1st level NPC's (2 Druids, 2 Barbarians and 1 Ranger). I will be sending them out only in a group and they will only answer to me, but will be providing any news to me first, and if critically important to Allard if I'm not available. I'll send you more on the make up of each individual.

The Pack has been awarded a single nail from the claw of the Giant Owlbear we slew recently as a sign of my authority as fully, deputized Wardens and therefore representative to their authority and standing in our country. Misuse of my authority will be subject to my punishment and Theod’s. They will pay fealty to the standing rulership, but will only truly answer to me and to my second (that is my secret). While working as my Pack/Warden Rangers, they do have standing order to investigate, report and protect our country (not necessarily in that order).

Some notes regarding my new (wish) home, which is in the wilds several miles outside of the “animal sanctuary”. The Pack, the Nursemaid/Warrior, my new ward "Lyrra" and the High Priest Jhod are the few that can enter my new home without Korr eating them. The rest of the council will be warned and signs will be posted in common near my home. My Pack will also have homes near and around the same area, each with standing orders to detain and interrogate trespassers not expected in the area around our homes. Other defenses will be cultivated with the local flora and fauna...more to follow.

More to come...

People may have forgotten that we were going to build an aqueduct to our city as well. We damned up the river and built a resevoir just for this reason. I think we should finish that job as well.

We also get shops for 3BP now, so I know the women folk would enjoy some places to go shopping and this could also bring more visitors to our country. Since these are so cheap they might be good for building up our economy. I know that will make Olig happy.

As far as Tatzelford, the people would rather have a castle down there. They see Tatzelford as our 1st lines of defense from invaders from the south. Of course the people are also demanding walls around our city to help keep out wandering beasts while the rulers are away.

I am also concerned that the wedding may have spelled our doom. We have shown all of our neighbors how weak we are militarily and with assassination plots yet to come to fruition, I am worried. That stupid prince has found a way to stop my scrying, so I'm am worried that he is on to us and what he may have planned. I will ask my love Alard to look into this, and I am willing to aid him in doing so if needed. Or we could just go for a long moonlight walk around town holding hands. :)

Not sure if the Market discount also works on a Luxury Shop, if it does, I say we build one of those as well.

Female Human init +7 Transmuter 6 HP 38/38, AC 13*,13, 10* (* +4 for mage armor) saves +3, +5, +6

Out of character: Since Briana mentioned assassinations, what is the heirarchy of our barony. Of course Esmond is leader with his new, ahem, wife. What if the assassin targets both and is successful who do we turn to in these desperate times. Does Briana take charge being the Councilar or Jhod being the High Priest? just a curiosity? If Briana is next in line, who is to say the her scry attempts are really unsuccessful? :P Especially when she has the spymaster in her backpocket.

Mark:
What exactly does Selena know about the assassination conspiracy so far? I remember that I don't know much, Do I even know who is involved so far and what the rest of our group has taken as precautions?

Also, has Magister Beldame had any chance to look into the request I made of her regarding the nullification of pacts with outsiders, specifically demons?

Second also. the next time that I speak with Ivoretti, I will divulge a little of my background. What I intend to tell him is that I came from a rich prosperous family that could provide me with anything that I could desire. I fled that life as there was no true love between me and my father. While I appreciate the gifts that you have sent, I need to know that you can tell who I am as a person instead of trying to impress me with lavish gifts. Young Varn has at every occasion listened and responded in such a manor. I do not tell you this to break your heart, I am telling you this because this is what my heart is telling me. (Sappy I know, but help from the wife in instances like this does help.)

"Well well, nice to see you on such a fine night. Of course we can talk, would my room suffice or would you prefer some other place in town?

--ooc: Do you have any kind of prices for spy networks?

For Brianna:
Of course I'll look into it Brianna, what could possibly stop you from scrying? Anything I should look for? And yes moonlight walks sound like a lovely time.

I would also like to know the heirarchy of leadership.

I will share this info. with Selena and Briana to see what they think about this. The head assassin does not like feeling watched - this is what I do! Theod will be hiding and using stealth more... and appearing quite paranoid.

Liberty's Edge

Mark:
Let me know what was the results of my investigation regarding the fey. I'm also looking for any type of unauthorized overland movement around our land. Although I do have speak w/animal potions, the druids also have the actual spell for some assist from the local fauna. My Diplomacy is only +4, but I'm sure with all the bonuses for all the things we've done for the local fey you have a better idea what my total actually is.

The following is Ghuar and his Pack perception/survival bonuses including Knowledge:Nature for some:
Ghuar (Rage P) +9/+8/+9 Perception/Survival/K:Nature
Westa (Druid) +9/+9/+7 Perception/Survival/K:Nature
Torra (Druid) +12/+9/+7 Perception/Survival/K:Nature
Kayhe (Ranger) +9/+8/+5 Perception/Survival/K:Nature
Ghehenna (Barbarian)+4/+4/ Perception/Survival
Ahnya (Barbarian)+4/+4 Perception/Survival
Korr(Chewy/Owlbear) +12 Perception (Scent)

Ghuar & Ghehenna will assist Korr in his tracking, Westa & Ahnya will assist Torra. Kayhe will assist as well, when needed. Unless you would like to roll for each individually; which may provide better results for tracking. Those of us with Knowledge:Nature will try to identify the tracks (if any) found.

Once I'm able to "arrange" a meeting with the fey, I will ask Brianna or (uhgg) Selena (in character) the brat for assistance for the meeting.

Shieldknight:
Depending on what Magister Beldame tells me about her research, I will approach Mal first and try to enlist his help and tell him my whole story. If he is able to help with the removal of the curse, then I will honor his commitment with a commitment of my own... if, and when he asks, I will agree to marry him. If not, then I will approach Ivoretti and ask him for help. The marriage thing is not an option unless he brings it up himself as a requirement. Then I will have to consider it furhter.

Chad: The market does not reduce the cost of the luxury shop. We would need a noble's villa for that.

Mark: Magister Beldame asks us to educate the children, is she talking about an academy since we already have the library? or is there a building that I am forgetting about that qualifies for that purpose?

Everyone: If we want to like Mark suggested, we can explore some more territory. There is 1 hex on the far west in the forest that is unexplored. Do we want to explore that now and possibly the hex to the west of the Stag Fort?

So far, Oleg and Briana vote for shops; Kesten, Akiros and Brianna are for defenses (army, walls, castle); Jhod for more festivals in the coming year; Beldame for education; Selena and Esmond are for land expansion.

New proposal: Expand kingdom by claiming the hex East of the gold mine. Move farm from gold mine to new hex. Farm hex South of Bokken's. This provides a -1 consumption which means that we can hire another army that cost 1 BP per month. Purchase no buildings this month and safe the remainder BP for Castle in Tatzleford. Sell items and generate BP. Changes made: +1 control DC; -5 BP. Any problems with this? If initial stability check is made, then we can purchase a shop for 3 BP and have 0 BP left before selling items and taxes.

Female Human init +7 Transmuter 6 HP 38/38, AC 13*,13, 10* (* +4 for mage armor) saves +3, +5, +6

Alright big error that I just noticed. In order to have an army, the consumption rating of that army is per week not per month. thus for having our giant as an army, it is costing us 4 BP per month not the 1 BP that I thought. Therefore, our consumption is now a 3 instead of a 0. This is really going to affect how we manage an army. We really need more farms to reduce our consumption at this rate. Which we can only build 1 farm per month anyways.

Mark, in the PDF that you provided, there was a rule that every forest hex owned within 5 of a city reduced the consumption by 1. Can we use that rule or not? If so, that would definitely help. We have 4 forest hexes that aren't being used for any other improvements, could we use those to reduce consumption?

The Exchange

ALLARD:
Spy Network:
I would allow a spy network at minimal cost, but either you would have to take Leadership and use your cohort as the ring leader, or you need to convince Theod to use his cohort as the ring leader. And then all the followers would be various spies in the kingdom and outside the kingdom.
Using a cohort in this way would take them out of any adventuring the party might do.
As for the cost, I'm working on what it may cost as a consumption to the kingdom. Kinda like an army.

Shieldknight wrote:
** spoiler omitted **

If we need more consumption, then we could always build some Apieries and/or some wineries.

Mark - while we are in kingdom building mode, can I sell my adamantine spear? If I can, I would like to use the funds from this sale to upgrade my double axe to being bane-undead on one side and bane-evil outsider on the other (this and wounding are the only weapon special abilities angus can do at this time). If this is allowed, let me know when you want me to roll the caster checks on this; I only fail on a 1.

Also, Angus is willing to do bane or wounding special abilities for others' weapons. There is a 5% chance he will fail on bane and 15% on wounding upgrades. Bane upgrade will cost 3000 gp, and wounding will cost 8000 gp.

Female Human init +7 Transmuter 6 HP 38/38, AC 13*,13, 10* (* +4 for mage armor) saves +3, +5, +6

Just to give everyone a recap as to what was all built in the kingdom over the past 13 months:

*Our kingdom size went from 18 to 41, changing our DC to 61. Our consumption is a 0 and that is with 3 CR 1 armies. Stats are Econ +64, Loy +51, and Stab +60. We have no unrest and 52 BP in the bank. Our edicts are Prom: Standard, Taxation: Normal, and Festivals: 6.

*In the country side, we added 7 farms, 3 apiaries, 2 windmills, 2 aquaducts, 1 royal reserve, and 1 fort located along our eastern road.

*Tatzleford added 1 shop

*Staghart added Baker, Black Marker, Butcher, 5 city walls surrounding the city, Garrison, 5 Houses, Office of the City Guard, Park, 3 Shops, and a Watch tower. This brings Staghart to a value of 7700 GP for items, and a city defense of 24!

All in all a good job during the last year.

Oh yeah almost forgot, the baron is now a duke with an heir...
Selena is a scorned woman looking for answers or vengeance...
Brianna finally got kissed by Allard after 3+ years...
Ghuar might take over as the next Hugh Hefner in the woods...
Ted has either found love or an assassin, I'm not sure which...

Since our defense is adequate at Staghart, I would like to see the astle built at Tatzleford. This will give the army a place to stay and provide a safe haven for the people in the countryside.

Minor correction, I forgot that at 8th level we get a stat bump which migfht change some of the leadership scores. If you would do me a favor and post your modifiers after leveling up as appropriate for the following abilities that would be most helpful. I just need the highest modifier of the ability listed.

Esmond: Charisma only
Brianna: Wisdom/Charisma
Ghuar: Dexterity/Wisdom
Theod: strength/Dexterity
Allard: Dexterity/Intelligence

My score wouldn't change because it is even at 7th level and so is my wife.
