Magus -> Arcane Trickster?

Round 3: Revised Magus Discussion

I was pondering how using Magus to fulfill the spellcasting of Arcane Trickster would end up. It seems like this might be a way to build the old 1e Fighter/magic-user/thief.

Compared to a straight Magus, you give up their higher level pool abilities, and a little bit of BAB, in return for sneak attack, tricky spells(which can be used to cast in armor), and greater invisibility for several rounds a day. (I'm not sure the AT capstone would be super useful to a Magus)

Spell Combat with sneak attack seems like it would at least be very fun. Not sure how effective this combo would be. I know arcane trickster in general isn't super powerful.

What do people think?

In general it'd be far weaker in combat; and many of the magus powers scale with level and aren't folded in from trickster. I do hope they make a rogue/magus prestige class, as my magus is a scimitar high-dex build and would have fun with it. But until they get the pool working with the prestige class it doesn't work out for you... Yo'd actually be more effective as a bard trickster, which is also pretty bad.

It sounds like it would be a far more valid path for an eldritch knight.

A trickster should have a more wider variety of spells than the magus brings to the table, more of the utility and stealth spells. The magus is more straight forward combat mage.
