I do look forward to the day where Xykon figures out all of the shady stuff Redcloak is doing. I mean, I'm sure he suspects something, because he's an evil boss who should never trust his allies, but I'm talking about the specifics of what Redcloak is up to.

The question I have is will he discover it too late for him to do something about it.

I think Xykon is too egotistical to think Redcloak could actually hurt him. If/when he does something about Redcloak it will more likely be just because Xykon thinks it funny.

I'm with Joel. He doesn't take Redcloak serious because he's not a threat.

I wouldn't be surprised that being the moment he orders MitD, but the big guy has learned enough from his paladin buddy to make his saving throw and take on Redcloak/Xykon (Or really throw a wrench into their plans) and this revealing the actual form.

Sure, but I bet he wouldn't be completely surprised if Recloak tried to hurt him. Or even do something counter to his plans that's not directly hurting him.

We've seen him get mad before. I can envision him getting mad at a betrayal.

What Xykon doesn't know, though, is that Redcloak has his phylactery.

I get the impression that X is clever (in the sense of choosing appropriate tactics for the situation), but not necessarily cunning. He's got his bolthole on the Astral Plane where he thinks his phylactery is secured, which is definitely a clever idea. I can't see him realizing that the phylactery is a fake and not immediately reacting, though. Deferred gratification isn't a part of his makeup.

Probably not John, but I don't think Xykon will react right away if only because he wants to establish his dominance again.

Remember : it's not that Xykon does not notice. It's that he usually does not care.

And when he cares, he kills. And does horrible things to your body and soul too.

He might even have noticed that the MitD is hiding something but just finds it amusing.

Is there a way for a lich to change their phylactery?

I think the mechanics are sketchy, but storywise, sure.

1264: Also an Uncanny Resemblance

"End Summoner License Agreement."

This just might be my favorite of all the comics in this entire series!

Wow. Okay 1) seriously impressed that Redcloak broke down and gated in some...Inevitables maybe??? Or are those Modrons? Also, love the fact one of them sings. :)

I'm pretty sure that they're modrons.

Cool. I heart Modrons.

Non-Killer App

"Ugh, I hate when the ads are for the thing you're already doing. We're living in a fantasy world right now! Skip! Skip!"

I wonder if the "You don't need to know that," is foreshadowing.

Would these extra-planar beings be wiped out if the gods decided to reset things? When the gods "destroy the world," does that mean that they reset only the planet the strip takes place on, or only the prime material plane, or all of the planes?

I'm assuming the entirety of creation so thus I think the planes have to go too.

Also I enjoy these Modrons. :)

The reset apparently doesn't affect the Astral Plane, or the gods would've had to remake their memorials every time.

Who said they don't ?

Deities are nothing if not persistent.

True, and if the Astral Plane survived the resets, odds are that some of the inhabitants of the previous worlds would still be around.

Come to think of it, though, didn't Durkon tell Hilgya to plane shift out if things went pear-shaped and she had enough time? That implies that Durkon, at least, thinks it's only the Prime Material that's going away.

Loki's reaction seemed to suggest that it was Viable. Her belief in my teachings is so pure not "thats not going to work but nice try".

Mind you its not hard evidence but i think its a fair chunk

I'm with Redcloak. This is going to be hilarious.

Dang, Xykon is even more messed up than I thought.

Silver Crusade

Wow. That's just... Wow!!!

Yuess!! Score one for the Modrons! Those guys rule!

Sounds like a typical adventurer to me.

Liberty's Edge

Xykon closing his eyes looks really weird to me. Please don't do this again.

@RDA: Yes! That was my first thought. How many times have I heard a player, sometimes IN CHARACTER, deliver a permutation of "no one's going to tell me what to do, ever," and "being able to kill them is the ONLY thing that matters"? Seriously, its like they sat at one of my tables, jotted some notes and wrote these panels.

1267: Dead Letters

Rich has been on a tear lately.

Silver Crusade

I think this confirms that Monster-San has officially gone full undercover good guy. It's a good thing Mr. Stiffly is there with the good guys, as I really don't think that convincing him to switch sides and actively fight against Team Evil in the final fight won't be a challenge.

It won't but I still thoroughly enjoy the torment the Modrons are putting Xykon through. It's just SOOO appropriate.

I won't be surprised if Xykon ends up snuffing the Modrons.

Nor I but at the same time, I'm enjoying the ride.

@Fromper. I believe Xykon still has his dominate spell on Monster-san so outright switching sides is still off the table.

Silver Crusade

When was it mentioned that Monster-San is dominated? I thought he went along with Team Evil pretty much willingly, due to ignorance and not realizing there were other options.

Even if he is dominated, he will get another will save if ordered to do something completely against his nature. And these days, attacking O-Chul would certainly quality. Probably not true of the rest of the team.

Fromper wrote:

Oh yeah, I had the same question! I went looking for it in the OotS wiki, but then got distracted and forgot to come back and ask.

1268: No Skill Point

Nodding in the direction of the fourth wall....

Belkar's response is so perfectly Belkar! Roy's response to all of it is spot on.

Silver Crusade

Chekhov's Gun has been loaded with 6 bullets. Time for some Russian Roulette.

Indeed Fromper. Also I feel for Roy and the whole "something useless might yet save us and the world..."

Also agree with John some very meta going on in the first panel.

Also in the fifth panel, where the characters are literally (and uncharacteristically) looking at the fourth wall.

Liberty's Edge

Looking at their character sheets. Priceless.

"one of those" ? My bet is ALL of those.

Scarab Sages

Now I want to know why Belkar learned how to make soap. Hell, that could probably be its own book.

He probably need some way to get all that blood off him in a hurry...

1269: Stuck in a Meeting

Belkar is going to the Bad Place....

This is why mimics are so annoying. Also John, I was pretty sure Belkar was going there anyway...

Belkar would be riding Chainsaw Bears in no time.
