My FLGS currently participates in D&D Encounters but not the Pathfinder Society. What can I do to get the ball rolling so that they offer both? Is there any promotional material that could be sent to them to help push things along?

James, I just finished reading Book of the Damned 2: Lords of Chaos. Nocticula impressed me immensely, any chance we will see here featured in an AP? She is just so freaking awesome.

Well... she's my favorite demon lord, and I'm the one who's in charge of the APs, so yeah. There's a very very good chance she (or more precisely, her cult) willbe featured in an AP some day.

Tough call. Given the choice... I'd actually probably go with the PC version of the game, especially if you have a big monitor, a fast computer, and good sound for it.
Hm. So you're saying to solve this problem I need to buy a bigger monitor!

There is no problem that can not be solved by the application of more artillery - or larger monitors.... Or monitors displaying artillery being shot out of more artillery.

Ever got a question (here or somewhere else) that you really struggled with because you just couldn't think of an answer?

Do you have a hobby or pet interest that you yourself consider a waste of time but still refuse to give up?

What would be the perfect way for you to start a morning?

Tea, coffee or orange juice (or none of the above)?

Or giant monitors with artillery strapped to their reptilian backs!

What would you say to a vrock antipaladin?

Meh.

Antipaladins work best, flavor-wise, when they're mortals who have become super evil. Vrocks and other fiends are already there. Making a demon antipaladin is like putting chocolate syrup on a chocolate cake that already has chocolate icing covered by chocolate chips. It's too much, and the added flavor isn't going to change the flavor enough to justify the resulting mess.

It's the same reason you don't create Angel paladins. Being a Paladin represents a struggle to acheive an ideal, which they're already at when they're "born".

Now an Aasimar paladin, those can be fun. Especially if you play them with a bit of conflict.

I played Sister Dawntouched, an Aasimar paladin FROM Beyond the West Wind (Bahamut's demesnes) who was sent to the prime material to look over Bahamut's interests there. When she got to the prime, it was messy and flawed and people wanted to try and KILL her. She nearly broke down in tears after a lifetime of living in the Seven Mounting Heavens. But she set her jaw and did her best.

That's the kind of conflict paladins truly need (IMHO) to BE paladins.

Just my 2cp.

Seeing that you are waiting eagerly for Dragon Age II, I was struck by a question I am struggling with.

I play and enjoy Dragon Age on my PC. I have recently aquired a PS3, however. I have read that the ability to "import" previous play throughs from Dragon Age into Dragon Age II will be rather minimal, given the gameplay changes in Dragon Age II - and I think it might be enjoyable to play it on my larger TV screen instead of my monitor.

Any thoughts on if I should stay with PC or try the console version of Dragon Age II?

A piece of advice based on my recent experiences with Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 (also both Bioware games). If your PC's monitor is HD and your TV is NOT, stay with your PC. At least for ME2, not being able to have the output to HD meant that I could LITERALLY not read almost any of the in-game text. And there was LOTS of it. I'm not sure if they're addressing that for DA2, but I just wanted to bring my experience to the table.

Now if both your TV and your monitor have the same resolution capabilities, just forget I said anything and move along.

Yup; just recently, the "list your five favorite fairy tales" boggled me. Because I don't really think of fairy tales as specific things that I keep track of.

No hobby or pet is a waste of time if you enjoy it. If you DON'T enjoy it, it's no longer a hobby or a pet... it's a habit or a pest.

From a previous post he said it was called Project Trinity.... during WWII Trinity was the project to construct an atomic bomb to defeat the Axis powers.

I am guessing that Paizo are building an atomic bomb to defeat the Antarctic Space Nazi's.

Jade Regent stuff is still WAY too early to reveal too much about it... but as the weeks roll on, it'll start popping up more often on the blog on Thursdays.

Tomb of the Iron Medusa, on the other hand... might be able to say more about that one sooner. It's by the same author who wrote one of Dungeon's most popular adventures of all time (The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb) and it's got a lot of what made that adventure great going on in it. Can't wait to properly delve into it!

James,

Not sure if anyone has ever asked - since Golarion elves can transform into drow, can half-elves transform into half-drow?

Maybe they should just half-transform into drow?

What is it about this thread that keeps taking my attention off of my homework and onto this thread?

What should I read first? The chapters for Organizational Behavior or the chapters for financial accounting?

If I keep paying more attention to this site and this thread then I pay to my studies will I ever get my MBA?

James, if the plural of "goose" is "geese", than why isn't the plural of "mongoose" "mongeese"?

Well, Mathpro18, I don't know you, but while we're waiting on Jacobs, I'll take a shot. Clearly there's something wrong with you. Wait, accounting? Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with you. Maybe you're in danger of half-transforming into a drow accountant?

Well the accounting was so I wouldn't completely abandon my first love in mathematics. Little did I know just how different the two really are...but its nice to sit and crunch limited numbers from time to time...and I still do research in my spare time.

I'm sure you've been asked this before, but remind me. If you play board games, what are your top 5 board games right now? (Right now Dominion and Small World are my favorites.)

Nope.

Only way to get a half-drow is to put a drow and a human in a room, turn on the Barry White, then come back in 9 months.

I don't really play board games much at all. I've been wanting to try out Arkham Horror for a long time. I do like Betrayal at House on the Hill, and also like those railroad games. Just looked at Carcassone or however it's spelled a few days ago and that looked neat too. I like killing Dr. Lucky a LOT more than saving him.

Which brings an interesting question: does the gestation period of all the main PC races mirror that as of humans (i.e. 9 months)? Given that some of them have longer and/or shorter life spans, I wondered if that carried over to pregnancies. Not exactly something that one would normally be trifled with in a typical campaign, I figure...

I like Arkham Horror in theme but in practice it is a bit too fiddly. I have high hopes for the Mansions of Madness (branded with the Arkham Horror logo, but a stand-alone game) that looks to be FFG's version of Betrayal. I would check that out whenever it gets released. I highly recommend having a board game night every once in a while in the office. Easier to organize than a regular gaming session.

Speaking of speaking of which... have you ever found it weird that Dwarves and Elves are children for so darn long? Apparently being long lived comes with a pretty harsh learning disability.

Or are these long lived races just lazy? Spending decade after decade mooching off their parents instead of going out and getting real jobs, like human go-getters?

Ultimately in my own games I ruled that Dwarves, Elves, etc might be longer lived, but they develop at the same speeds as humans. It means a backstory where childhood friends grew up together doesn't restrict race so much.

Do you do anything similar in your own games?

Honestly, I don't think we've ever delved on it that much at that level. But now that you've brought it up as a correlation, it's going to be stuck in the back of my mind for a bit and bring it up as a side conversation. Especially if my human PC needs to debate (i.e. pepper them with insults) the dwarf or elf PC. ;-)

That's unlikely to ever really be a topic we cover. Sexuality weirds out a lot of gamers.

My suggestion, though, is to assume most humanoids have similar gestation periods. If you adjust them to match longer lifespans... say, give elves a 5 year gestation period, that should probably have some weird sociological or biological repercussions.

Having longer lived races develop at the same rate as humans into adults is a really smart solution.

I wouldn't say that they're lazy, though. Just that humans are unusually aggressive when it comes to getting things done. Most every other race lives longer than humans, after all... it's HUMANS who are the weird cases.
