Ok it's gotten to the point that when I run a game I need the exact mini to represent a monster, and if I don't own said mini, I will order it through various online sources so that I do have it. I can't be satisfied with using an equal size mini, even close approximations irk me, for example I need a bebilith for a bebilith encounter the huge mounstrous spider will not do it has to be a bebilith. It's also made me start collecting dwarvenforge stuff and making 3d wilderness terrain. A flimat will no longer suffice. My friends think I'm crazy or well on my way there. What do you think am I a perfectionist or am I developing a variant of OCD?

If you're ordering those minis from paizo.com, I would call it perfectly reasonable and, indeed, commendable.

ALSO: Your players should appreciate the fact that you go through such great lengths to provide a quality game.

Personally... I don't bother with making every mini match. And I actually don't like Dwarven Forge stuff at all, since it makes it hard to see the action when you're sitting at the table.

I do indeed come here first for minis, then I go to other sources if i can't get it here.

I think my players do enjoy the mini selection, but I also believe they are getting spoiled and jaded. For example as much as I like the Purple worm from DDM, it's too small so i went out of my way to order the otherworld miniatures version because it is more size apropriate even though i have to paint and assemble it myself.

How could we let this get bumped down so far?

Dear mr. Jacob

1) Do T-Rex need to floss?
1a) If so, how do they manage, with their huge teeth and their small arms...

2) Should a creature caught in a Wall of Thorns take damage from fighting while staying in its square? For the sake of this spell, is fighting an opponent (or chopping your way out) considered remaining motionless?

1) Nope. Rib bones do the job automatically as they eat.

2) You can indeed fight in a wall of thorns without taking damage. You only take the damage if you move out of your square.

Actually... there IS a new Alien movie coming out next year. It's a prequel. Directed by Ridley Scott. I have high hopes.
Really? Didn't know that. That's excellent! I just hope Ridley Scott continues where he left off. Sometimes when these cats come back to the "good ol' stuff", it usually doesn't turn out so well. They get hung up on the overuse of CGI. (See George Lucas)

Ridley Scott, UNLIKE George Lucas, has made a LARGE number of good (some of them great, some of them Oscar winning) movies since Alien. I see no danger whatsoever of Ridley Scott suddenly switching from being a great director to a lousy one with the Alien prequel as a result.

And some of those movies DO use CGI, but they use it well.

Frankly, CGI is a boon, not a curse. Like ALL forms of art, it can be good or bad. Just as you can have terrible practical effects or terrible makeup effects, you can also have terrible CGI effects. And vice-versa. There's nothing inherent to CGI that means bad effects. Bad filmmakers won't be limited in their suckness simply by one type of effect; they'll suck no matter what.

As for George Lucas vs. Ridley Scott... the difference there isn't that one uses too much CGI and the other didn't. Ridley Scott, as I mention above, uses CGI in his movies all the time. The difference is that Ridley Scott is a talented director and George Lucas is not. George is GREAT at producing stuff and pretty damn good at building worlds... but not so great at directing movies.

Did not realize Ridley Scott has done so many movies. (That's just because I really don't pay any attention to the directors of movies. Odds are pretty good I've heard of them though. Gonna have to IMDB that. Now I'm curious.)

On the topic of CGI, I totally agree it's great for movies, it just pathetic that the majority(IMO) of the movies made today, pile it on thinking that's what's gonna make it a great movie. The writing stinks, the acting stinks(which could be directly related to the writing), and there is no story line. Plus the developement of the character(s) stink(s), or it's just flat nonexistent. There have been several movies that I think 'well the special effects are great' but all of what I mentioned earlier exists.

It's like you said, it's an art. You incorporate it beautifully, or you just flat stink at it.

Anywho, seeing how Scott did so well with Alien, when the prelude comes out, I'm definitely gonna be there for that one. I'll join you in the high hopes department.

Good stuff as always Jacobs. Totally spot on.

Okay, I'll try and stop with the whole threadjack, bit. One of the best creature movies, EVER! Just couldn't resist.

Oh, wait a minute, this one dude I was talking to the other day, prefers Predators over Aliens,

Isn't that just weak?
Hah! Not a total threadjack.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Or, to put it in different terms...

Spoiler:
How much smurf could a smurf-smurf smurf if a smurf-smurf could smurf smurf?

The Exchange

In furtherence to the question above, how much wood could woodchuck Norris chuck?

Paizo Employee Creative Director

In both cases, 2. Unless they have the Improved Chucking feat, of course, which would increase the total to 3.

James Jacobs wrote:

"Hey you woodchucks, quit chucking my wood!"

WoodChuck Norris only needs two feats, his left and his right. :)

P.S. it's never a good idea to question woodchuck Norris about his spelling of feet/feat

well we almost made it to 4000 post before woodchucks, chuck Norris and s***f jokes, not bad still sad.

So what gods would make a good bounty hunting type Inquisitor to go after my PCs that unknowingly have an unholy object, Looking for uncaring jerk type that just wants to destroy the pc with out caring that they are unknowing.

what are the chances of an NPCs book and is there a place to download NPCs of the base classes?

How was thanksgiving?

There's always room on the internet for Chuck Norris.

Lawful Neutral is my favorite alignment for the hard-case stubborn not-evil bad guy. I would suggest an inquisitor of Abadar. THAT SAID: If you have a cleric or paladin or other divine spellcaster who's skirting the edge of being a model member of the church, make the enemy inquisitor of the same faith as that character.

The chances of a book with lots of NPC stat blocks in it is VERY good. In that we've done two so far (GameMastery Guide, NPC Guide) and have a third one coming out early next year (Rival Guide). If those don't do it for you for an "NPC book," then I'm not sure what kind of book you're looking for.

Thanksgiving was... okay. Went over to a friend's house along with a lot of other folks; there were about 30 people at the gathering, some of whom I knew, some of whom I didn't know. About 22-24 people too many for my tastes for a thanksgiving get-together, so I ate and bugged out early and came home and didn't have any leftovers and all the stores were closed so later that evening when I got hungry I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

It is evident that Woodchuck Snorri has never chucked Craftwood.
You see, Craftwood will where other wood wouldn't.
Or my name is not Edward Woodward.

My question(s) for Mr Jacobs is (are):
What toon should I roll for WoW Cataclysm? Or should I keep playing DDO? There is no PFRPG games in my area.

World of Warcraft is a bazillion times better than D&D Online.

As for what character you should roll up... I would recommend either a healer (druid or shaman or priest) or a tank (warrior or druid or paladin or death knight). I've played a hunter since launch day (mostly because I wanted to have a pet dinosaur), and while it's mostly been fun, the game itself has increasingly shifted away from having classes that can't tank or heal being marginal and unnecessary, which is increasingly frustrating. Hopefully they'll adjust that balance back to a point where the spread in power is more balanced with Cataclysm.

James, my best friend LOVES playing her Hunter, but was very upset when she found out that Volley was taken out due to Blizz feeling Scattershot was a better AoE attack. Thoughts on this??

Scattershot is far from a replacement for Volley. One of the most frustrating things about playing a hunter is that if you get stuck in melee, or worse, surrounded, the vast majority of your abilities essentially "turn off." You don't even have the option to try to use your shots, which is someplace that volley really helped with. You could drop a volley when you got surrounded by a bunch of mooks and survive. Now, there's not really much of a way to cope with this situation; traps just don't cut it.

Anyway... haven't played much at all since they took out volley, so maybe it's just me needing to re-learn how to cope with getting surrounded, but at this point I'm pretty much 100% agreeing with your friend. Hopefully, Blizzard relents and does something to fix the situation... I'm holding out for them removing the ridiculous minimum range limitations on ranged weapons.

Monkeygod wrote:

Not really. We published an article about tieflings in Pathfinder #25, and there's a trait that is tailor made in the "Council of Thieves" player's guide for tieflings to serve as player characters.

We haven't done much at all for drow traits, because the official line in our published products is that drow are not PC races; they're bad guys. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't go ahead and play them anyway (heck; we're doing an all drow game at Paizo every other Tuesday evening), but it's not an option that we're interested in publishing support for right now.

James I'm sure this question has been asked before on other threads, please excuse me again for asking because my collection is on the other coast and I can not rummage through it.

I know I have all the Dragon issues with the demonomicon of Iggwilv (including the beloved last Dragon issue), but since there's a huge Paizo sale going on I don't mind getting a few extra copies.

Which Dragon issues did the Demonomicon appear in sir?

Droon will be visible on the half-page world map we're printing in the Inner Sea World Guide, but not on the Inner Sea region map. Droon won't actually be LABELED on that half-page map, though, but you'll be able to see its shape just as you can see Florida's shape on an unlabeled map of Earth.

There's about 3 paragraphs of information about southern Garund in the Inner Sea World Guide. Beyond that, we have no current plans to explore southern Garund much more in the immediate future.

We'll keep doing Bestiaries as long as it makes economic sense for us, and as long as we think there's enough monsters to fill another 320 page hardcover. They're ALWAYS going to be monster books first, which means that there'll be unlikely to ever be more than a handful (like maybe 4 to 6) templates and a handful of zero-HD races in each one.

A big book of templates and a big book of zero-HD races would both be cool, I suspect, but they would NOT be presented as Bestiaries.
