Not really.

The idea is that the other core 20 deities, who were always there as other gods for humans to worship, have risen to the occasion to become the "human pantheon" of the Inner Sea region.

So, brief rules question. I have a player who is taking exotic weapon proficiency scorpion whip. it says "If you are proficient with whips, you can use a scorpion whip as a whip." Does that mean that if the character takes "Weapon focus: Whip" that feat (and subsequent whip mastery feats) apply to the scorpion whip?

It seems odd, but the way I read the demonhide revelation entry in the Inner Sea Magic guide, although this results in the flesh becoming as "tough as a demon's hide", it seems to grant an armour bonus, rather than a natural armour bonus. Have I understood correctly? If that is correct, then I assume it doesn't stack with armour worn?

On flying carpets:

So if you're riding around on a carpet does it basically just give you overland flight?

Or do you ride around on it using the mounted combat rules?

Or does it just move around however you like by talking to it?

How are they intended to work mechanically?

It means exactly that; you can use the scorpion whip as a whip, but not as a scorpion whip. If you want weapon focus to work for the weapon as a scorpion whip, you need weapon focus (scorpion whip).

You understand correctly—it's sort of like a variant form of mage armor, and won't stack with armor worn. It WILL stack with things like amulets of natural armor and barkskin and, if you're something like a demon or other monster, your natural armor. Like most of the other AC bolstering revelations will.

You ride around on it with your Fly skill. It's under your mental command, so you can basically think of it as functioning similarly to overland flight or simliar spells... except you can get knocked off of it if, for example, you get bull rushed off of it.

So you use your own actions (move, double move, run, withdraw) to move about while on a carpet, using the carpet's fly speed?

What if you are not the "pilot" of the carpet? Can you seize control of it? Can two people fly twice as fast, with each one using their actions to fly everyone on the carpet from point A to point B?

Hi James!

I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1) If you had to describe what a marid looks like in it's true form for an artist, what details would you make sure to mention?

2) Are efreet the only genies with horns? Does gender matter?

3) Are half-gnolls possible in Golarion?

4) What musical pieces or soundtracks would you suggest for genies? To be specific, one that might fit a marid's palace on the elemental plane of water.

Thank you for your time and any answers you're willing to provide.

Correct. If you're not the pilot, you have to sit and enjoy the ride. If you want to take it over, the current pilot has to either give you control, or you need to kill/knock out/push off the pilot and take control of your own. Doing so without having the carpet suddenly fall would require a DC 25 Fly check (as if you had a mid air collision).

Two people using it doesn't work any more than two people riding a horse as for making it "faster."

1) The marid should look like a thin, svelte human with flesh made of solid water.

2) Yup; only efreeti have horns, regardless of gender.

3) Depends on the GM, but canonically, no, there are no half-gnolls.

4) The soundtrack to "7th Voyage of Sinbad" has the best genie music overall.

Hey James,

With Aroden being the deity of prophesies, would you say his demise had an effect on the prophesies of Pharasma? (and perhaps other deities with a similar portfolio) Or is it just one of those 'it only screws mortals' situations?

Not sure where you're getting Aroden was a deity of prophecies. There was a prophecy that he would return to usher humanity into a new golden age... but that's not the same as being a god of prophecy. He was the god of humanity, innovation, and history.

Probably just as well. In Arcanis, the Goddess of Prophecy looked a bit too far into the future. To get her mind out of what she saw, she became the Goddess of Debauchery. There are still members of her original sect trying to get her back on track though and they're at odds with the newer faith.

And in Warcraft the first thing the Makers gave to the Dragon of Time was the knowledge of his own ending. If someone offers you the job of diety of prophecy, I'd strongly suggest you consider running far away.

There's missing words in your question that make it impossible for me to answer, alas. Please rephrase it.

Excuse me, I'm not english or american.

I'm a monk at 18th level and I use my unarmed strike with the Brass Knuckles.

If I attack with them, my damage is 2d8 or a d3?

This is the correct link:

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/weapons/weapon-descriptions/brass -knuckles

"Brass Knuckles

These close combat weapons are designed to fit comfortably around the knuckles, narrowing the contact area and therefore magnifying the amount of force delivered by a punch.

Benefit: Brass knuckles allow you to deal lethal damage*.

Drawback: You may hold, but not wield, a weapon or other object in a hand wearing brass knuckles. You may cast a spell with a somatic component while wearing brass knuckles if you make a concentration check (DC 10 + the level of the spell you’re casting).

Note: Monks are proficient with brass knuckles and can use their Monk unarmed damage* when fighting with them.

*Adventurer's Armory Errata Update 2.0 — Release Date: 07/21/11

*Special Note

Monks do not use their unarmed damage when fighting with brass knuckles even though the latest errata did not change or remove the sentence stating they do.

If a monk is using dragon ferocity, his streght bonus with unarmed strike at damages is 1,5. Does power attack damage is increased of 50%?

"or a primary natural weapon that adds 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier on damage rolls."

If you see the rule the answer is yes. It's true?

Ah; gotcha. Brass knuckles are essentially wielded weapons, and as such you'd do the brass knuckle damage instead of unarmed strike damage, just as you'd do sai damge if you wield a sai, not your unarmed damage. This may (or may not... I don't know) be adjusted and clarified further in the upcoming Ultimate Equipment book.

Power attack would increase unarmed strike damage by +2 points per –1 penalty the Power Attack causes (Power Attack doesn't care what your strength bonus is); that damage bonus would add onto any damage bonus you gain from dragon ferocity.

But with dragon ferocity(streght x1,5), the increased unarmed strike damage is by 2 or 3 points per -1?

Dragon Ferocity only adds a static bonus to unarmed strike damage. That bonus is equal to half your strength score, rounded down.

If you ALSO Power Attack the damage increase that grants stacks with that granted by Dragon Ferocity.

So... if you're a 6th level monk with, say, a strength of 18... your unarmed damage would be 1d8+4.

If you're a 6th level monk with a STR of 18 who used Dragon Ferocity, you'd add half your STR bonus (+2) to your damage, so that you'd do 1d8+6 damage.

If you're a 6th level monk who uses Power Attack, you'd take a –2 penalty on attacks but would add +4 damage to do 1d8+8 damage.

If you're a a 6th level monk who has a STR of 18 and uses power attack, you'd take a –2 penalty on attacks and do 1d8+10 points of damage.

What do you think of allowing oracles that CHOOSE to worship a single deity to learn that deity's exclusive spells?

James, I'd rather not ask rules type questions here but here goes anyhow:

Spell: Light of Iomedae
Source: Inner Sea Magic page58
Casting time: 1 minute?!?!

This spell mimics Faerie Fire with some channel resistance nullification added that affects undead only. Why would a spell obviously intended as a combat spell have a casting time of 1 minute?

Likely because I suspect that casting time is a typo and that it should probably be a casting time of 1 standard action.

Sorry if this has been asked before. How does the chill touch spell work?
I beleave it works like a held charge for subsequent attacks. Being able to discharge those touches as one standard action per round or if using bab with unarmed attacks or as a magus using spellstrike.
There just seems to crop up alot of confusion on the rules forum but never a definative answer.

James, thanks for answering my last question. Out of curiousity, will the 'typo' be reported and updated eventually?

Also, I have another question for you:
Why does Make Whole have a casting time of 10minutes? I understand that for repairing items it makes sense to have a casting time of 10minutes but for repairing constructs it would seem to be more appropriate to be 1round or 1 standard.

Thanks in advance - Gauss

Chill touch essentially gives you a weapon that you can make a number of attacks with equal to your level. It's certainly poorly worded—it probably SHOULD say something more like a duraiton of 1 round/level and that you can make 1 attack each round. Unless what it's REALLY trying to say is that you can make 1 attack per level, so that if you have iterative attacks or haste effects you might be able to make the attack more than 1 time per round.

Pick the one you like better if you're the GM. If you're a player, ask your GM. If you're a player in Pathfinder Society who gets caught up on these rules, prepare burning hands or shocking grasp instead. :P

We generally do not update or do errata for the 64 page books since it's VERY rare that we reprint them... if we reprint the spell in the future, I'll try to make sure it gets fixed though. If not... and if it remains an underpowered spell and a GM isn't comfortable fixing that as a house rule... there's hundreds and hundreds of other spells to pick that a re better.

Make whole's casting time is what it is to make damage to golems and stuff like armor/weapon damage (be it caused by sunder, or bebilith attacks, or whatever) stay meaningful in the scope of a single combat. It's the same reason lesser restoration takes 3 rounds to cast. Keeps the effect that it fixes in the category of a significant problem during a battle, but less significant after the battle to fix.

AKA: It's intended to be a post-battle recovery spell, not a tactic in the battle itself. Break enchantment's also a spell like this.

Howdy, oh lizard king...

So i just got the Dragon Empires Gazeeter, and while reading through the Darklands entry, I noticed the mention that to explain all of the contents of Tian Xia's darklands (or Sekamina specifically), an entire book would be required. Was that just for dramatic effect? Or rather, my question would be: is it a good possibility that an "into the Darklands" sort of text will be written for Tian Xia?

Also, what do you think the average lifespan of a ratfolk would be?

I would LOVE to do more Darklands stuff, be it below Tian Xia or Avistan or whatever. The Darklands extend under entire continents, so it's not hyperbole to say that they could easily fill an entire book.

Ratfolk lifespans are given in Advanced Race Guide. And since we just got our office copies today... looks like ratfolk can live to about 40+1d20 years.

Hmm, I've been thinking about your previous answer James, and I was wondering, what was Aroden's relation to destined prophesy?

If he's not the god of prophesy (as you rightfully pointed out) then why did all prophesy collapse with his demise? According to the ISWG, even the other deities weren't immune (hmm, with the probable exception of Pharasma).

Or is this one of those 'nobody knows' situations?

Yep, I'm an Aroden fan. :)
