If you could gain any 1 spell from Pathfinder, except Limited Wish, Wish, and Miracle, as a spell-like ability usable once per day at caster level 20, what would it be and why?

Polymorph any object. Because that instantly solves issues with unwanted bodily features, but also lets me breathe water or fly, and in theory would also let me cure my nearsightedness and let me eat whatever I want and maintain a good and healthy weight. Whether or not it'd cure cancer or other physical ailments... who knows?

I almost chose heal, but I've read enough horror stories about the repercussions of being able to heal and how modern society would react to that to convince me that being able to heal with a touch would be more trouble than it's worth.

I also almost chose greater teleport, because living 800 miles from my family makes for long drives.

Is the Oni Daimyo Muronna by any chance missing a face? It doesn't say that specifically in the Book of the Damned, but her obedience and boons all have to do with blindness and her name sounds a lot like the faceless yokai Mu-Onna.

For what it's worth, Sorshen's stats in the final volume are comparable to Xanderghul's. They're both 20th-level wizards with 10 tiers of mythic power, so you can see how to build one of the strongest runelords to ever walk the face of Golarion just as easily with her.

(AKA: Whether or not one is more powerful than the other kinda boils down to whether or not you think illusions or enchantments are stronger—there's arguments for both.)

What is Xanderghul's mythic path?

Pretty much everything we've said about that one is there in Book of the Damned. Haven't put any more thought into it, so further details are unrevealed.

Have any of the Spawn of Rovagug reproduced? What about the Kaiju?

Nope. Part of the deal about being a unique creature is that you don't make duplicates of yourself.

That's not a value I've ever bothered to write down or set in stone. Feel free to set her height at whatever makes sense for you.

I know I technically shouldn't be answering questions here, but...didn't you answer that already? ^_^

(btw, Brainiac, there's a link at the end of the sentence, but is can be hard to see.)

No problem, that's what I'm here for. I'm actually more upset that I replied to a post I meant to edit, and can't fix it because- but here's not the place to get into a rant, however justified.

So, actual question. How much will Sandpoint have changed in-setting from Light of the Lost Coast by the time 2E comes around?

Have you seen the newest trailer for Alita Battle Angel that dropped this past Tuesday?

Do you think a small creature can ride a large or gargantuan creature? I ask this because I'm trying to make a goblin boss character who rides an owlbear or a wyvern, and a mite boss character who rides a giant tarantula spider, but I'm not sure whether these beasts are too big for a small creature to ride or not.

Ameiko will have done her thing in Jade Regent, but other than that, the Sandpoint in that book is as it will be in 2nd edition.

Physically yes. It can happen in the real world. Children ride horses all the time, for example.

The game itself doesn't handle mounted combat perfectly, but those all would work as far as I'm concerned.

Since I can't find any notes of it in the Construct Handbook, but it was mentioned it'd be there from the comments...

What are the "alternate methods that aren't "stealth evil" soul-enslavement methods for golem construction" in the lore?

According to the above post, it seems that you have already said Sorshen's height is 5' 9". I'm not a native English speaker so I really cannot understand what it means. Does that mean 5.9 feet?

Getting freely given, non-coerced permission from a creature to use its soul after death for construction.

So it's impossible to make a golem without an elemental spirit?

I'd say no; that's kinda the theme of what makes a golem. Using an elemental spirit to animate a thing made out of "elements" like iron or clay or wood or whatever.

Mr. James Jacobs,

What is Yog-Sothoth's relation to the Dimension of Time?

Would it be more difficult, more complicated or less feasible to make the Chronicle of the Righteous or the Concordance of Rivals into hardback books than the Book of the Damned?

Has the idea of a Spell Compendium book been tossed around? A harcover book that catalogs all (or most, anyway) of the spells that have been released? It would be nice to have one go-to book for picking spells.

The Lost Outpost said that the true leaders of the alghollthus are the veiled masters. But page 13 of Occult Mysteries said that even the veiled masters themselves are not the most powerful of their kind. The book said that the way in which aboleths and veiled masters seem to defer to the presence of the even stranger being suggests an altogether more terryfing truth. So, can I assume that even veiled masters are not the true leaders of the alghollthus?

Complicated. He's the custodian of it, the guardian of it, the manifestation of it, and it.

HTD wrote:

MUCH more difficult since the Book of the Damned had most of its content already created. For hardcovers of the other two, we'd have to hire writers to create the majority of the content, which would take many more months to write, develop, and edit than the Book of the Damned did.

Maybe, but three things complicate it:

1) The fact that such a book would go out of date as soon as we published another spell.

2) If folks want a full list of spells, there's plenty of online options that are faster and easier to search.

3) Once we shift editions, a compendium like that might make more sense, but the market for 1st edition products might not be strong enough to justify its creation. We won't know this answer until quite a bit later though.

So overall, whether or not we've tossed the idea around, it's fraught with issues.

Maybe, maybe not. Not every mystery gets answers. Not every mystery NEEDS answers. The lingering implied threat of a greater manipulator and overlord caste above the veiled masters is more interesting in a lot of ways if it remains mysterious and maybe/maybe not true. Printing apparently contradictory information is one excellent way we can retain that mystery.

The Lost Outpost said that alghollthus can undergo a chrysalis-like metamorphosis. In this manner, some aboleths become veiled masters or omnipaths. Each alghollthu is capable of spawning through asexual reproduction by way of the metamorphosis process. Each reproduced alghollthu is effectively a clone of its parent. Then what would happen if a veiled master or an omnipath produce a baby? Would this new alghollthu be a veiled master or an omnipath as well? Or would this new alghollthu always be an aboleth?

Not really no.

The Runelords are one of my favorite parts about Golarion. I was curious about their relationships with each other. I understand it was rocky, at best, but in some cases it seems like they got along okay.

In the Hollow Mountain comic, Xanderghul says to Alaznist that she was always his favorite. Why was that? I do find that pretty funny given the way their relationship ended up.

Were Zutha and Krune pretty easy to get along with?

How did/does Sorshen see her peers?

How did/does Alaznist see her peers?

Also the war between Karzoug and Alaznist, I seem to recall contradictory info on who was about to win that war. So, for the record, which runelord was about to triumph?

Thank you for your time!

So I was thinking of adding “Guardian Fairies”, Young Simple Template Wysps that function as Sage Familiars, except they don’t count as Familiars for any prerequisite, you can get an actual Familiar as well if you want, and any unique class ability or feat that enhances Familiars (such as Bloodline Familiars) cannot be used on your Guardian Fairy.

It is meant to be like the Guardian Fairies of the Kokiri from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but I know you said you didn’t play Nintendo games, so I’m not really sure why I’m mentioning this now. Anyways, what do you think of this? It would mainly be done for a solo game, so the player isn’t going to have as many skills to distribrute around as a 4 person group would, so this would give them a chance to have Knowledge skills without having to waste their limited skill pool on said skills.

Was the Thassilonian domain of Edasseril named after the current queen of Kyonin, or someone else related to her? PathfinderWiki suggests the former, but I'm finding it hard to believe since even elves don't live that long.

Please keep questions to one per post. I"ll answer these here briefly though.

Xanderghul is being facetious and insincere and condescending to Alaznist; he's proud enough to think he doesn't have anything to fear from her and thinks that he's safe being patronizing to her.

Zutha and Krune were not easy to get along with.

Sorshen sees her peers as either fools or tools. Sometimes both.

Alaznist sees her peers as obstacles needing to be destroyed.

Alaznist was closer to winning the war against Karzoug, but her rashness could well have backfired on her. She was "ahead" in the battle but her victory wasn't assured.

Edasseril is named after an elven family, one that the first runelord of Envy was super jealous of, so she took the name in an attempt to claim its legacy as her own. The Edasseril elves were more amused by this in the way a patient adult would be amused by a petulant child, and figured they'd be around long after Edasseril the nation went away. They were more or less right.

The current queen of Kyonin is a descendant of that family, but she wouldn't be born for several thousand years at the point the first runelord of Envy named her land after her ancestors.

If they don't count as familiars, they shouldn't be familiars. Instead build them as potential cohorts, I say. That way it'd be Leadership that could get them as minions and you could save yourself some work.

Even better, just design them as helpful companions and have the "requirement" to gain them be roleplaying; the PCs need to impress the fairies in play by doing quests for them or otherwise appeasing and delighting them. Make them joining forces with a PC or the party a reward for play, not a cost that a player needs to spend to gain.

Buffalope (a name I came up with for giant trample-saurus monsters we fought in a Starfinder game I'm playing in)

Hmmm. It's weird. It's easier for me to come up with my least favorite words these days now that I think of it. Words that have been so overused by elements in the real-world whose goals and personality traits bother me so much that those words have been tainted.

The word "actually" is probably my least favorite word these days as a result. I actively try NOT to use it, and whenever I see myself write it and notice that I wrote it (which is most of the time) I take pains to go back and restructure the sentence so that it doesn't need that gross word in there.

I just don't like how the word "actually" seems to be used by folks so often in an attempt to "correct" someone's opinion with one of their own.

Also not a fan of "decimate" since no one uses it for its definition and instead uses it as a synonym for "destroy," when it actually means only 10% of destroy.

*(see how removing the word "actually" from that prior paragraph doesn't change the sentence's meaning but does make it feel less antagonistic? Maybe that's just me...)
