Very few. Absalom though for sure since they've got lots of everyone. Maybe Mediogalti... Probably somewhere in Ustalav.

So if I get Kavazon and artifacts thing right, if he is resurrected by all seven being brought together then when he dies those body parts will die as well, but if he was brought back to life from Everdawn pool his body will leave teeth behind?

If Kavazon is brought back by all artifacts being together, is he stronger than if he comes back at end of campaign with the pool?

If Kavazon is brought back by pool and he goes and finds his other body parts, do they get absorbed by him or can he wield his own artifacts meaning that if he gets killed he gets brought back to life again due to them?(unless they get temporarily "knocked out" whenever he dies)

Hello James

I hope you are well :-)

1) How is the fall where you are?

2) Do you like it? (Here in Denmark, I've always liked the turning of the leaves from green to yellow and crimson)

3) What has made you happy recently?

4) What has made you laugh recently?

5) What is the best part of going to work?

6) What is the best part of going home after work?

As always thank you for answering our questions :-D

James what do you say would happen to a PC that got two corruptions at the same time? Specifically the ghoul and lich corruptions?

1. I'm not sure to which layer each level of the Emerald Spire belongs. The Emerald Root belongs to Orv because there's a Vault Keeper there. And at first I thought that the seventh and eighth levels, Shrine of the Awakener and the Circle of Vissk-Thar would belong to Sekamina because there are serpentfolks there. But according to the map in the page 19 of the book, these two levels are located in too shallow place to belong to Sekamina(I'm not sure my sentence is grammatically correct). And about other levels, I honestly have no clue. What do you think each level of the spire belong to?

2. In this page you said that a human adventurer can learn how to properly use the vault seed. And Secret of the Vault Seed, a special ability possessed by the Vault Builders, allows the Vault Builder who created a Vault gain regeneration power which effectively prevents them from dying in the Vault. If a human learned how to properly use the vault seed and actually created a Vault, do you think he would gain this regeneration power in the Vault too? Or he would not gain this power because the ability specifically said a mythic xiomorn gains this benefit and he's not a xiomorn?

3. Are the real world snakes underground creatures? I ask this because in Golarion, the serpentfolks and troglodytes are described as underground creatures and have no interest to conquer the surface world.

4. Can a sorcerer with a high Int and scribe scroll feat teach a bunch of childeren wizardry and make them first level wizards? He's not a wizard but sorceres and wizards use the same spell list. So a sorcerer with a high Int and scribe scroll feat can definitely teach children to become wizards, right?

5. Desna's killing of Aolar nearly started a planar war. I'm curious in what condition this kind of war can be triggered. So I have to ask this. If Desna was a demigod when she killed Aolar, would other demon lords(including Lamashtu) form an alliance to wage a great planar war?

6. If Desna was a deity when she killed Aolar, but killed her in other planes(for example, in the Material Plane) instead of her abyssal realm, would other demon lords form an alliance to wage a great planar war? Or would they not bother, because it was Aolar's mistake to foolishly get out of the Abyss?

7. Aroden nearly killed Deskari. Did he not kill Deskari because if he killed Deskari, other demon lords will become angry and form an alliance to wage a great planar war?

8. Areelu Vorlesh is a CR 27 creature. And the book said that if she dies, she will be resurrected as a nascent demon lord. Normally, becoming a nascent demon lord is a great power boon. But a nascent demon lord's power cap is CR 21-25, and Areelu's current CR is 27. Does that mean, once becoming a nascent demon lord, Areelu Vorlesh would become weaker? And that's why she doesn't kill herself already to become a nascent demon lord earlier?

9. Will Areelu become old and die? I ask this because I'm not sure if a half-demon is immortal or not.

10. The books didn't say where Iomeade was born. What do you think? Maybe Kantaria? Westcrown? Or Kintargo?

11. It seems that there are very few Iomedaeans in Kintargo and Ravounel. Am I right?

12. To the Glorious Reclamation, the most desirable situation would be the Kintargans attacking other parts of Cheliax and thus drawing as many Chelish soldiers as possible to make it easy for the Glorious Reclamation to defeat the Chelish army in other places. But the Silver Ravens chose to parley with House Thrune and didn't open up a second front. Would the Glorious Reclamation think this behavior as a betrayal to the great cause and thus despise Kintargans and the Silver Ravens?

13. If the Glorious Reclamation conquers Cheliax, would the Kintargans still want to maintain independence and don't want to be a part of the new Cheliax? And would the new Cheliax want to annex Ravounel, forcefully if necessary?

14. Do Cheliax and Sargava regard each other as independent, sovereign states? Or do they regard each other as rebel scums and thus have no diplomatic relation? I ask this because I want to know if I can take a ship at Corentyn and travel directly to Eleder, and vice versa. Would Cheliax and Sargava capture every ship that hoists each other's flag?

Correct. How much stronger he gets when he recovers those items and/or is reborn from them depends on where you want to go with your campaign, but at the very least he should be able to use the artifacts.

15. You said that there's very few nations that have Nidalese ambassadors or embassies. What about Korvosa? It seems that Korvosa is very dependent on Cheliax. So it would be logical for Nidal to have an embassy there.

16. Where did Varisians originate? More specifically, Varisia or Ustalav?

17. Why do people call the land north of Nidal as Varisia? In other words, do people call the land Varisia because Varisians live there? Or do they call the people Varisians because they live in Varisia?

18. Varisians are the descendants of Thassilon. Does that mean they are the ethnic descendants of Azlanti? In other words, are Varisians pure Azlanti?

19. Kaer Maga has already existed even before the Earthfall. Runelords of Greed accomodated prisoners there. Does that mean, the current population of Kaer Maga is ethnically pure Azlanti? And in Kaer Maga the ancient magic and technology of Thassilon are preserved pretty well?

20. Were there flying cities in Azlant? Azlant was the epitome of human civilization which was known for its great magic. Even Shory and the cloud giants made flying cities. Surely Azlanti can make one, right?

21. Does the Treaty of the Wildwood prevent Taldor, Andoran, and Galt from entering the Verduran Forest entirely? So even if a war breaks out, no army can march through the forest because the druids don't allow it?

22. The most powerful golems in Golarion are called quantium golems. Do they have something to do with the quantum? It's hard to believe the people of Golarion know about the quantum. Or they are called quantium golems because they are in Quantium, the capital of Nex, and have nothing to do with the quantum?

1) Rainy with periodic breaks for blue sky (like today).

2) Absolutely; the weather is one of the big reasons I moved to the Seattle region.

3) Precious little. My cat, I suppose, and Ramsey Campbell's latest novel "The Searching Dead" and the DLC for Dark Souls 3, I guess?

4) Last Sunday's Walking Dead. "FRUIT TIME!"

5) Working on Pathfinder.

6) Getting to do something other than work on Pathfinder.

I wouldn't allow it. Corruptions are supposed to be flavorful curses and conditions, not things you collect. It's like putting peanut butter on a pickle. Separate they taste great, but together is not a good idea.

1) Apart from the Emerlad Root being located in Orv (the adventure says as much on page 19), it's relatively unclear. I'm not sure if there's actual depths underground listed for the levels, but they're not equally distant from each other. What layer of the Darklands a place is on is pretty much only dependent on depth, though, not much else. Nar-Voth goes down to about 2,000 feet. Sekamina is 2,001 to 8,000 feet. Orv is below that. My personal preference is that the upper 15 levels are all in Nar-Voth in any case.

2) It's possible. Magic makes a lot of things possible.

3) Real world snakes are not underground creatures. Serpentfolk and troglodytes are not real-world snakes, so what works for snakes doesn't really imply much of anything for them.

4) That'd be up to the GM. I'd say it's possible but tough.

5) If Desna was a demigod when she attacked Aolar, the demons wouldn't have cared. And whether or not Desna would have survived such a fight is not certain. Desna attacking Aolar is kind of like an elephant attacking a legless ant. The two were simply NOT in the same class of power.

6) Not as immediately; it was as much her invading the Abyss as it was killing Aolar that galvanized the demon lords, but just killing Aolar somewhere else would have had SOME sort of somewhat lessened similar effect.

7) He didn't kill Deskari because he was unable to finish the job. Best he could do was drive him off.

Oops, sorry. I linked a wrong page. I cannot find now where I read that statement about human learning how to use the vault seed, but looks like it's too late to edit my previous post.

8) That does indeed mean that Areelu's CR would drop if she died and became a nascent demon lord, but it also means that her opportunities for eventual growth to a demon lord would be much greater. Still, death for her is not something she wants. If dying made her more powerful, she would have killed herself long ago.

9) She's a native outsider, and as such she grows old and dies. But not fast, and not anytime soon, and like most super-powerful spellcasters, she'll likely find a way to keep from growing old and dying for as long as she wants.

10) We might have revealed that in Hell's Vengeance; I dunno. Beyond assuming she was born in Cheliax, I haven't put much thought into it. It's not something that's well-known in any event, otherwise that city in Cheliax would have had lots of info by us talking about the ramifications.

11) You are right. Kintargo/Ravounel is sort of a frontier land, and is more chaotic than it is lawful. Iomedans aren't as interested there as they are in facing Thrune and the church of Asmodeus in the rest of Cheliax.

12) They might, just as the Silver Ravens think of the Glorious Reclamation as reactionary zealots that are doing more harm than good by causing a situation that results in Barzillai taking over their city in the first place. They are not allies. Intentionally so, since that keeps the two APs separate and doesn't pit one against the other directly as the "winner."

13) Yes, absolutely. And I doubt the Glorious Reclamation would try to annex them, because that's not good, and Iomedae's faith isn't about conquering good people.

14) Cheliax regards Sargava as a petulant child that needs to be brought to heel and reclaimed. Sargava sees Cheliax as an oppressor and a thug that it wants nothing to do with to the extent that they hired pirates to protect them from Cheliax. That said, you absolutely can take a ship from Corentyn to Eleder, or vice versa, provided the ship wasn't a Chelish ship. If it WAS and flew Chelish flags, it could still make the trip but it would be complex diplomatically.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but I was recently looking at the first book of Council of Thieves, and it includes this interesting tidbit in the sidebar on the "Founders of Aroden":

"Even though the Last Azlanti died, his founders continue aiding their followers and working to keep all those who once revered this city from totally losing faith in it or themselves."

Now, we know that at least two former servants of Aroden, Iomedae and Milani, continue to exist and grant spells to clerics. Can the Founders do the same?

I've known I wanted him to be from there since Pathfinder #2. (You can see hints of this in that adventure.)

About how many years does Sargava have before the exorbitant amount of protection money they pay to the Shackles bankrupts its economy?

Serpent's Skull SPOILERS!:
What I read in [i]Serpent's Skull made it seem like the nation's living on borrowed time, as they're desperate enough to try the longshot of sending an expedition to plunder Saventh-Yi just to scrape together enough to make the payment this year, especially since the Pirates themselves are competing for the very same treasure.

I'm sorry to say this, but it seems that you missed my questions in this page. Can you please answer them? To appease you, I brought new questions.

1. If Areelu dies of old age, would she still be resurrected as a nascent demon lord? I ask this because the resurection spell cannot resurrect a person who died of old age.

2. If Areelu cannot find a proper way to keep herself from growing old, would she kill herself to be resurrected as an outsider?

3. Were Kintargans already rebellious even before the Thrune Ascendancy? Did they hate the rule of pre-Thrune Cheliax as well?

4. What about Korvosa? Korvosa was a colony of Cheliax, and Magnimar separated from Korvosa because they hated Korvosa's pro-Thrune policy. Would Cheliax regard these two nations as nothing better than Sargava and thus a Chelish ship cannot go to Korvosa and Magnimar and vice versa?

5. Can demigods ignore dimensional anchor? Can Deskari still teleport away even under the effect of this spell? What about deities?

6. A deity breaks rules. Can a deity cast detect thoughts, charm monster, dominate monster etc to a creature with mind-affecting immunity? For example, can a deity ignore a demigod's mind-affecting immunity?

7. It's mentioned that any creature who set foot on the Groetus' moon will go mad. Are those immune to madness(Karzoug, Baba Yaga, and serpentfolks) vulnerable to this effect as well?

8. Is there any spell that lets me distinguish a vampire or a werewolf from a human? I ask this because I'm not sure what spell I should use to find out a vampire or a werewolf among the innocent people when I don't have time to wait until the sun rises or the full moon. I'm not sure if true seeing or arcane sight are good ideas or not.

1) Yes. Not all at once though.

2) Most will have new art. Mephistophoeles uses his Wayne Reynolds art from the cover of Pathfinder #102 though.

3) No. The art for the kaiju in B6 is excellent though.

4) I didn't say at all.

5) Probably, since we generally re-use artists, but for something like a Bestiary, the sheer number of artists means that I don't and can't keep track.

6) It's been done for months.

7) I have no idea. Can't choose.

1) She won't die of old age, so it's a moot question. But "resurrecting" as a nascent demon lord does not mean "a resurrection spell brings you to life as a nascent demon lord." So the rules for the resurrection spell don't apply even if she did die of old age.

2) She doesn't know that's gonna happen anyway, so no. She's not suicidal.

3) Yes; but to a more subtle degree than, say Pezack's citizens. But I've been dropping in hints about Kintargo being fed up with Thrune for several years in various products, to pave the way for an eventual rebellion AP that ended up happening with Hell's Rebels.

4) No. Cheliax's relationship with Varisia is very different than their relationship with Sargava. Sargava was a Chelaxian colony. Varisia was never a colony.

5) Nothing in dimensional anchor says a demigod or other powerful foe can ignore it, in the way that language exists for, say, discern location. So yes, dimensional anchor would affect Deskari or any other demigod normally... assuming it gets through his SR and actually hits him, of course. Deities don't have stats, and one of the things that means is that things that affect thing with stats (such as dimensional anchor) can't affect them. A deity will only be affected by dimensional anchor cast as a spell by a creature if the deity wants to be so affected.

6) It wouldn't need to cast those spells. If it wanted to see what was in a creature's mind, whether or not it can depends on whether or not the GM wants it to be so. Immunity to mind-affecting effects doesn't matter to a deity, UNLESS the GM feels it should.

7) Probably not. But again, as with all deity-related things... it's up to the GM if it happens or not. Deities don't have rules and don't follow rules, and all these questions you're asking are, in effect, asking me to create rules for deities to follow, which is not something I'm going to do.

8) True seeing might work. I think there's probably some other spells that force a creature to assume it's true form. And of course, in a well-run game, there'll be clues and hints and opportunities for your character to make Sense Motive or Perception or Knowledge checks to see through deceptions.

15) Korvosa is one of the few cities we've extensively detailed, and there's nothing in there about Nidal.

16) Varisia

17) Because that's the traditional homeland of the Varisians; they dwelt there before Thassilon, in fact.

18) Nope. Varisians were a nomadic culture who lived in the region when the first Azlanti came to the region to conquer them (and the Shoanti and the giants) who lived in the region—of the three cultures, Varisians were the most numerous and most widespread). They are not "descendants" of Thassilon. They're survivors of Thassilon.

19) No. Kaer-Maga is the meltiest of the melting pots today, and there's more diversity there in race than most other places in the world. The current population is not at all ethnically pure Azlanti. As with elsewhere, there are pretty much NO pure Azlanti there. Aroden was the last of them.

20) No. Shory was the society that pioneered the first (and so far, only) flying cities on Golarion. Cloud giants make flying castles, not cities. Azlant was powerful, but they couldn't do everything. Not even close.

21) I suspect that if war breaks out they won't care about the druids. I'm not familiar enough with the Wildwood Treaty though to say much more; that's never been a part of the setting I've been much involved in or thought much about beyond what may or may not be said in the Inner Sea World Guide, if anything.

22) The most powerful golems in Inner Sea Bestiary are Quantium golems. They're called that because they patrol the streets of Quantium, not because they're made out quantums, which is an ENTIRELY different thing (note the additional "i" in the word "Quantium").

Some Galt questions

1. Is the Pathfinder novel "A Plague of Shadows" considered a good reference for insight into how Galt and the Grey Gardeners work? Specifically interested in the bit where the Grey Gardener's are described as "The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing." or something along those lines.

2. How does the average Galtan view the Revolutionary Council?
3. How does the average Galtan view the Red Revolution?
4. How does the average Galtan view the Gray Gardeners?
5. Would it be remotely plausible for a mostly non-evil party to knowingly work for the Gray Gardeners?
6. What are the popular religions in Galt?

1) I have no idea. I've never read it. In theory, though, yes, all of our novels should be considered good references for insight into how things work in the setting. I just can't personally vouch for most of them since I've not read them.

2) With anger and frustration and fear.

3) With anger and frustration and fear.

4) Pretty much just fear.

5) Not really.

6) That info's in the stat block for Galt in the Inner Sea World Guide on page 70: Calistria, Cayden Cailean, Erastil, Iomedae, Norgorber, and Shelyn. I'd actually add Milani to that list though.

X years, where X = how long it takes for you to build that story into an adventure in your game, or barring that, how long it takes us to publish that story as an adventure or whatever.

Such as the excellent Beyond the Pool of Stars ^w^

Hello James!

Quick question, this was marked for FAQ long ago, but kinda never got anywhere, at least no my knowledge, at least I'd like your opinion on this.

APG and Unchained rules say eidolons "...cannot wear armor of any kind...", does this include shields?

Thanks in advance!

I have. It was fun. I'm doing the 2nd journey now as I kill time waiting for Dishonored 2, and have managed to finish about half of the new game content for Ashes too.

I'm not interested in setting a precedent for being the go-to guy for doing end runs around FAQs that haven't yet been replied to. I get it that it's frustrating to have to wait or to endure the impression that the rules team is ignoring a FAQ or whatever, but I also ask you to understand that it's also frustrating for me at this end to see those questions languish. On top of that, it's frustrating when I do provide my answers only to see someone somewhere else use that answer as an official answer and then get PFS stuff all worked up and confused and then it ripples back to me when posters complain "Paizo doesn't have its house in order" and so on. Even if the answer I provided was the one that the design team would have provided, it causes too much headache and frustration all around. Especially for me. I'm not interested in having PFS players complain about me in that regard.

If you're asking for a home game, go with your GM's decision.

If you're asking for PFS, then my only real advice is "Don't play a summoner."

The bosses were fine...

Spoiler:
While both bosses do have non-humanoid elements to them, with a giant wolf or that freaky cauldron smasher... both boss fights do replicate my primary complaint about Dark Souls 3—that there's too many bosses who look interchangable and dull. People dressed in armor with weapons are, to me, not all that thematically different than fighting other players in PVP. I much prefer it when the souls games include bosses that are monstrous—the original Dark Souls did the best at this I think.

Furthermore, I was a bit disappointed that there were only 2 bosses anyway. The DLC felt shorter and smaller than others, as a result. If Form Software is going to do at least 2 more DLCs then I'm less annoyed at this... mostly I guess I"m sad that this is supposedly the last Dark Souls game. Hopefully Bloodborne gets a sequel and they continue making similar games in the future!

Spoiler:
There's the first meeting with her. Then you can talk to her in the church's attic before and after the boss fight for additional dialogue.

She has the same eyes as the Primordial Serpants, and scales on her feet and neck.

She also refers to the new painting she's creating the same way as the original painted world is referred to in Dark Souls 1, leading many people to believe she is Ariamis.
"Thou'rt Ash.
Thou'st a pact made with uncle Gael.
So I wish to tell thee all.
Behold its size. This is my canvas.
It's to be a cold, dark, and very gentle place.
...But first, I must see flame.
I wish to paint a picture.
Of a cold, dark, and very gentle place.
One day, it will make someone a goodly home.
That's why I must see flame."

Also and that while the Flame inspires her the pigment she needs is the Dark Soul of Man.

So I'm running tomorrow finale for Hells subplot in my RotR campaign and while statting npcs ideas I had for Hells isn't that bad, I'm having problem with what equipment to give them :/ Since I don't want to give too much loot to players, but npc guidelines don't have very expensive weapons or such so seems like they can't have much cooler stuff than +1 weapons/armor.. Any tips on how to figure out what is good way to equip npcs?

Also, on sidenote, Darvengian's backstory's paralytic ingested poison he used in wine doesn't seem to have anything coming close to it in pathfinder material I have seen? How you would stat that poison or would you use different as equally disturbing poison?(there are lots of those)

Hey hey hey James! How aren’t you today? What haven't you done today?

1) I must bring this to your attention. In the Book of the Damned Princes of Darkness, Barbatos is said to have seven-fingered hands, but in his artwork he only has five fingers per hand. Can you make sure he gets all of his fingers in his new artwork?

4) 2 + 2 = X, What does X equal?

3) Do the deities know how Aroden died?

2) I know demons are you favorite type of outsider, why do you prefer them over devils and other outsiders?

Make clerics and give them magic vestment and greater magic weapon so they can boost their armor and weapon and then spend their NPC gear on more interesting stuff.

As for design work like "How would I build weird poison..." that's not something I do here. Design work, in my opinion, shouldn't be stranded in the threads but in print. For now, keeping that poison as a story element works for me.

Joyous. Lunch.

1) Nope. He doesn't have seven-fingered hands anymore, because the art can't seem to get that right.

4) 4

3) Probably

2) Because they're more variable in appearance and role and theme.

Go inventory an old manor's contents in the outskirts of Dunwich to make things ready for the estate sale.

Ooo that's a nice setup.

Speaking of, have you seen either version of The Lady in Black.

Yup; saw the remake (quite good) and the sequel to the remake (quite boring).
