Well, as far as for real Artifact and cool stuff, yes: was thinking something like that but was going to suggest something like this
Since scythe is quite important ascept of clerichood (the official weapon), was thinking the Scythe to be the Artifact.
The trick here is: I don´t get any use from it. It is magical described, it is radiating strong unholy aura but nothing happens. My character is just accustumatad to it, which brough back the divine energy as you explained in "Keeping the Fait" trait, e.g just they woke up.
the enchantment stuff +5 etc, none of them are working. To get access to them, I would need to study etc etc and this I would like to tie to game: each lvl 3-4 for, I am able to unlock one +1 ench in scythe: however, to do it, I have to make required rituals + use money for this, study the religion lore, get ingredients to make it happen. This will be long process since I am not seeing us advancing quite fast.
so: mainly -> have gold, got ingredients, study & make rituals (also tied to level) until I am even able to lock even at +1 ench. Even then to keep it scaled with other people. Just my thoughs plus playing wtih the idea. Also your approval needed.

Willpower, can Deep Ones talk underwater?
Good Question, I had to think logically on that and see no reason why not, I used to do that as a kid with my brothers in a pool. granted real world physics and D&D don't always mesh but It's cool enough to allow.
If you're underwater there are rules for spellcasting, so if you can breathe water I don't see why not.
I'd even go a step further for Deep Ones using their secret language though and say nothing would get lost in translation while doing so in that fashion.

Well folks I have to change characters the campaign where the char this one is based on is about to start back up our dm is home from overseas on medical leave as he got shot in the leg so to avoid playing the same char twice I will be making a new one a half giant (firbolg) named finn fighter 1 barbarian 1. It shouldn't take long to convert over sorry for the delay I'm just glad adams home and mostly in one piece
Finally able to respond - glad your DM is doing well! If your amount to donate to the fund changes, simply let me know, and I'll adjust - I will keep your spot as head boatswain for now, but if you decide to be a part of the normal crew, or something similar, just let me know.
Also - updated crew for our gunner-to-be and our brand-new Carpenter! So far I've recorded 6 PCs as part of the crew. It seems to me we might be boardin' ships and takin' loot quite often with this set-up, yo ho!

If I'm speaking the "secret language"(Druidic/Aquatic?) to some who doesn't know and we're both underwater, that person would understand me?

Ah, *nods*, thank'e for clearing that up. Good to know. Yes all the x-bow ideas are from 'normal' 3,0 and 3,5 books. Will oout referances and page numbers in the character sheet.
As for the no to Paizo, that's a bugger because the "Spoirit of the River" Feat from the Campaign Guide seems to fit right up the alley we're looking at.
Still, looking forwards to whatever you come up with! (^_^)

I feel Odin is a bad ass, totally awesome in fact. I dig the fact he is married to a goddess but still finds time to make hanky panky with mortals, She even knows about it! He's all like, "Shut up woman I got needs!" He is a super stud...oh you meant in game terms?
The gods you knew are not talking much these days. Your free to use Norse Mythology references in your characters backstory however. The events leading up to that worlds end could very well fit the Ragnarok like ending.
I don't have rune magic currently in my table games, so I can't say that will be present in this game as an alternate source of magic. Your mothers father (or, your grandfather for ease of understanding.) can pass you down a sword with Nordic runes sure, that doesn't mean they are magically charged, or latent 'magic' runes, but sure. You can read them later if you take "speak language" skill or a feat.
Alchemy: You can make whatever is supported by the 3.5 system, I do not have the Dragonlance books, so if it's not published by wizards it's a negative on crafting it. (I am curious what it does though.)
You can use the Half Giant from the ExPH, as is, thats fine. No swapping powers/abilities.
You can equip yourself with up to 2k in non magical gear, and up to 900gp worth of magical gear.
Boats: I may rule you start with a ship and free up some cash however, as I enjoy the idea of you guys having a your own independent vessel you run and maintain.
So feel free to take back your pooled cash for a vessel, I'll stat you guys up one of at least the same size you planned earlier and add that as a freebee from the DM.

No, just that 2 deep ones can talk freely and unhindered using their secret druid language. Where as a normal person would have to really concentrate to talk/listen underwater. It's not easy to do :)

Thanks boss then with my last 200 magic gold I need the two most powerfull magic items in the world socks of dryness all they do is keep your feet dry all the time and never wear out. And the dreaded Baltroms razor the only razor that can never cut living flesh bawahahahaha. On a normal nite if you will allow them I want them and also can I buy a balista for the boat??
Also I will stay the head boatswain even though I'm now more of a shock marine
As to the runes I don't care if there magic I just wanted to let you know I'm going to relearn it for flavor if I do get something out of it the let me earn it in rollplay and I have no idea about the sword I figured you could use it as a plot hook if you wanted to maybe another viking steals cause its all shiny and he thinks its magic lol
The woad is a alchemy check dc 25 to craft has market value of 500gp when applied it bonds with the skin giving you a +5
Natural armor bonus and fast healing 5 once the paint heals 20 hp it loses its armor bonus
And yeah its Wotc made its from the DLCS book pg 232
Look under war paint stuffs pretty good till you realize that 20 hp means 4 rounds at our lvl but I still want it I need it to paint our marines in so I can send a bunch of naked blue screaming people to board other boats
Okay then I have 2000gp or so how much is and xtra balista??

Or heck I might buy a masterwork mighty composite large long bow and call it an balista
LMAO make it darkwood too then it will be the lightest masterwork mighty composite ballista (longbow) ever made. xD

ya its going to be very interesting in how quickly this PBP will be worse come to worse we could still do the whole two teams thing but so long as people stay active it should go fairly quick. this thread has been jumping almost every couple of hours since we all gathered here. I'll moderatley stock it with minimal gear to survive. Including 1 ship weapon, and means to survive on deck for some small amount of time.
Work has kept me busier this week than usual so I'm a bit behind on info rolling out, but it'll be trickling out today as I get it typed up.

In that case, lots of food, fresh water and fishing supplies as well. (^_^)
Can't have enough hooks, lines and sinkers!
Also nets.
As an aside. How much would a "Sea chest" cost? I can't seem to find a price for a large chest. Any ideas?
Working my character up *bows*
I don't see having a chest be anything to waste your starting cash on, you can assume to have a storage box or whatever if you wish on the boat.

spells
I'm going to lift the temp damage and make it a 1/day similar to the druid, you can still pick a physical stat, but that will restore spells for you for that day up to level 1. As your fueling it with your on essence kinda thing. The per spell cast might add up way to quick. I like the druid way I typed up better for clerics too.
I'll modify it later to reflect that.

Well, my dearest quartermaster, whatever is stocked on the ship is in your deft hands! (Just make sure nobody takes too much rum now!)
I'd post more on the pricing and quality of unordinary supplies, but I'm at a friend's and don't have my books with me. But, with what we've been told, we do get a ship weapon, which will be a ballista - with the size of the ship, we'd probably buy the upgrade so it can turn 360 degrees, and have it in the middle of the deck (Still need to look at the diagram, but I don't think it's unrealistic.

"Captain" Devannis Pantera |

Captain, I request a place for my manta to rest on board while the ship is in movement, for I fear Waveflier will not be able to keep up with our marvelous vessel!
That shouldn't be too hard (I'm home now, so I'm looking at the diagram).
From the looks of it, the ballista will be on the (left?) port side (Correct if wrong, please), due to the stairwell - but it does say it can mount two ballistae, though one is fine for our voyage.
As for any number of mantas, there is not as much room as we'd like, but if you can find a place near the front mast, that would probably be ideal. It's a small elevated section.
Also, have an extra 500g from me, Kai, so that you may stock the ship - I really don't need quite that much startin' plunders. Just make sure you post back with the list in a spoiler so I can record it.

Pinnace
The pinnace is a small, two-masted sailing vessel. It’s sturdy enough to undertake long open-water voyages and handy enough to use close to shore. A pinnace is fully decked, but its sterncastle is hardly worthy of the name; it’s little more than a cramped cabin.
Pinnace: Gargantuan vehicle
Seaworthiness +2
Shiphandling+2
Speed wind × 30 ft. or oars 5 ft. (good);
Overall AC 1
Hull sections 4 (sink 1 section)
Section hp 50 (hardness 5)
Section AC 3
Rigging Sections 2
Rigging hp 60 (hardness 0), AC 1
Ram 3d6
Mounts 2 light
Space 30 ft. by 10 ft.
Height 10 ft. (draft 5 ft.)
Complement 15 Watch 3 plus 8 rowers
Cargo 30 tons (10-15 tons are currently in use by the various supplies) (Speed wind × 20 ft. if 15 tons or more)
The Brotherhood represents the last in a long line of beautifully constructed sailing ships, and even though its creation of rushed as the old world was dying, it would soon prove its self in exploring a new frontier. In their haste to prepare for departure only some of the supplies were brought on board and a single Ballista mounted on deck before the demon army arrived. When the exodus to lands end was complete a varied and exotic crew of miscreants and heroes gathered to crew this magnificent ship.
Armaments:
Ballista
(Mounted on rotating platform allowing it to move 360 degrees.)
Augmentations:
Rotating Platform: This low platform mounted on rollers doubles the fire arc of a siege engine (so catapults have 180-degree fire arcs, and ballistae can fire in any direction). A rotating platform doubles the number of crew required operating the siege engine. Weight: 1,000 lb.
Supplies, Tools and survival gear:
250x Ballista Bolts
Tools:
Carpenters Tools, Repair Kits, Sail Repair Kits wood glue, extra coils of rope (to rebuild burnt rigging), a set of spare sails and possibly a replacement mast.
Food Supplies:
Consist of various amounts of folling: Biscuit, flour, cinnamon, cloves, oregano, parsley, dried apples, honeyed peaches [stored in barrels with enough preservatives for long voyages], oatmeal, salted beef, salted pork, dried peas, butter, cheese [hard], sugar, oyle olive [olive oil], vinegar, suet, raisins, salt, sour krout [sauerkrout], salted cabbage, portable broth [dessicated soup], saloup, mustard, mermalade [marmelade] of carrots, water barrels.
Livestock:
Penned up below decks is a set of milk cows along with a young bull. Several chicken coups are setup on deck and eggs are collected daily, a young rooster is also penned up separately from the females and remains hooded to avoid excessive noise. A lot of cargo space was used for food to keep the livestock well fed until a suitable piece of land is found to place them on.
Exotic Items:
Several sheets of fine halfling tobacco.
Several bags of seeds containing mostly the consumable crops, various types of fruit trees and some small bags of certain trees that are involved in construction.
Weapons:
Due to limited room and flagging funding there are several barrels containing spears, short spears, arrows or crossbow bolts. Several replacement bowstrings and some oil to maintain the crews bows are also packed tightly away Last but not least there are a handful of boarding axes in case the crew is unable to repel boarders.
And most important…
THE SPIRITS! :
Stored below decks and secured tightly [checked daily by the captain himself] are several casks of the various spirits that could be saved before the exodus. Outside the normal Moonshine, and rum, there are several casks of Pulsh Brown Ale and Gnome Golden Light. Mixed among the more numerous spirits are a couple of casks of Elven mead and a box with various bottles of wine, mainly consisting of the easily produced mushroom wine with a rare few bottles of Elven Aleeian Wine in the mix. A single bottle of Elven Moondrop is secured in the Captains chest and remains in pristine condition.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hopefully that looks good, it was left vague for a reason lol since keeping track of everything would be a pain.
@ Finn I'll assume that the money you so gracious added is well spent on the above supplies, as well as my own cash >=)
Now it awaits DM approval. ^^d i'm off to bed lol work in 5 hrs again, night shift is tiresome lol. Hopefully you guys like it I tried to be detailed in the telling. Sorry if I stomped on you at all Willpower you can weal and deal with the ship however you want I just thought i'd use some cash and throw this together =)
Well, I started building my character somewhat before other chimed in - I now find that I am a lone LG Paladin on a genuine pirate ship. Is this going to be a problem?
If it is, then Willpower, it becomes even more urgent that I get some feedback on what favored enemy would be best. I can go full ranger rather than ranger/paladin, but that would mean that the ranger traits and equipment would need careful detailing.
My contribution to the ship's stores remains - call it assorted timber and leathers (whatever ship picked Kyre up would have had an entire island of resources to gather. On the other hand, there is ample reason to believe that an island that could keep one human girl alive couldn't manage more without faerie magic, hence it not being suitable for settling.)
Hrm, sorry that's kinda up to you. That's a little to metagamish if I were to advise you on that. I mean if you pick say aberrations and actively seek out aberrations to fight, well you'd probably find them.
But to say I have plans to attack the ship with hoards of undead seaweed (note to self that's an awesome idea.) well that gives you a distinct advantage. I'd rather have you pick what you want to pick because you like the idea and RP aspect of that choice.My contribution to the ship's stores remains - call it assorted timber and leathers (whatever ship picked Kyre up would have had an entire island of resources to gather. I don't quite approve of the entire game becoming a pirate dash and grab. I better pay more attention to the thread it seems.
Oh I don't mind Evil at all, there's a place for good, evil, law, choas in any D&D game I run. I don't however want to run a pirate boat game. At least not out of the gates, maybe it ends up that way later in the campaign..if it develops that way organically then we'll run with it.
So don't let it affect your choice of playstyle too much. I was just trying to steer the plot to more of the way I was envisioning the start, which I never filled you guys in yet as I was busty all week at work.
So ultimately it's my bad for not sharing the background events yet. It's coming though :) keep the good ideas rolling.
Another question.
I have in mind to buy a x-bow that is one size larger than a hand x-bow. Or one size smaller than a light x-bow.
So it would be doing;
Dam:1D6, Range Inc: 60 ft, 19-20/X2 Master worked for something like 350 Gp (Masterworked) + Approx 100 Gp being an almost 'one off' weapon.
Yes or no?
Also going to add the Gnomish X-bow sight. Master worked weapon and Master Worked bolts.
Eventually working up to adding the whole "Gnomish steam bow" kit/gear to the thing (Assuming we can ever find the right sort of Gnomes and the character gets that sort of money)
Cheers!
Edit: I don't plan on being Piratey at all. Though possibly overly rambunctious and such might cross the line a little. ;)
I don't know where you get the whole 'were a band of evil pirates' idea from since i'm Neutral Good lol but perhaps i missed something. We've joked about it with that video and as Willpower has allowed we have a mix of good and evil (surgeon, *shudder*) if your going to play a paladin it'll be an interesting RP, if you own the book of exalted deeds they kinda talk about how to Roleplay in a diverse group or how to handle certain situations when confronted by evil. But don't just pile everyone into a 'we're all bad guys pot'. Besides we have a halfling that rides a manta ray, come on how is that evil or piratey? Its more like an awesome mascot xD
Besides that I can tell you right now Kai'itza isn't going to do anything he doesn't have to to survive in this new world, just like anyone else but if it boils down to we are just raiding and pillaging for jollies and booty then there may be an issue. He may be a lizardmen and blah blah about how they should act but things have changed, so purposefully inciting everyone against us is a fools errand and even a warrior knows when its time to fight or retreat.
Although it will be interesting to be one of the few *I haven't read everyones profiles yet* that tries to uphold law and justice in a new world that may/maynot be devoid of civilization. But I guess what I was saying is that if it comes down to it Kai will back up those who are in the right or he will start the fight himself if he gets tired of trudging through someone's foolish and ignorance. He doesn't understand the machinaions of the non-scaled races or their reasons for constant bickering so if he gets involved it will be quick, brutal if it must and done with *in his mind at least*.
I really think it was the pirate jokes that pushed it over - as far as I'm concerned, I am no pirate at heart, and that was not the concept for my character's life as it stands.
He's simply the captain of the ship, in his eyes - I do want to grab Legendary Captain, so I may inspire us to further heights (It was tempting to grab Bard instead of Swashbuckler, but this makes more sense).
I think a paladin would do us some good, Kyre, to be entirely honest. Someone's gotta keep us in line. I can say, though, as far as I want to go, the closest thing we'll do to pirating is surviving off vessels that try to take advantage of us. I can guarantee, however, anyone who tries to swipe the Brotherhood will see Davy Jones' locker.
EDIT: Also, if the contribution does remain from Kyre, Kai'itza, then we should invest in a spyglass (It is hefty at the even 1000, but it's well worth it!)
Agreeed!
Hopefully you liked what i tried to put together for the ship above we can flesh it out some more I just didn't want to break it down to the ounce in supplies sine it would be tedious to say 'we used an ounce of cinnamon today.
But lets modify it as we need to to make it our own~
Edit: most of my money and Finn's was used for the ballista, rotating platform and the odds and ends for the supplies =/ just to warn you. When i get a chance i'll break it down and get a rough estimate of whats left over.
