Eidolon Base Form - Fixed or Mutable? And Which Can Be Ridden?

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

I could not find an answer to the following, except for a thread with one post, which got locked at the end of the playtest...I also have two related questions, which follow from the first.

Can you change the base form of the eidolon whenever you change the evolution points?

While it specifically says you can change small/medium size choices each time, it doesn't mention whether you can choose a different base form. I'd been assuming you could because of the very fluid nature of the other evolution choices, but if that isn't the case, I'd like to know.

Are all the forms ridable, assuming the eidolon is at least one size larger than the summoner?

If all forms are ridable, do quadrupeds gain any advantage in carrying capacity for their gait?

The reason I ask, is that I was aiming to make a Small summoner, mounted on his eidolon for speed, and sharing spells, and need to know if I have to pick quadruped base form or not.
Having picked that base form, is it fixed, or can it be morphed into a more agile form, once the party no longer relies on pack animals?

It can not be ridden, there is a riding evolution posted somewhere. The PFS boards I am thinking.

1: No the base form can not be changed.
2: When the AGP comes out there will be an evolution for this and seems as if it will be limited to quadrupeds
3: while it can "carry you" it is not a mount and can not be helped by any ride or mount related feats or skill without the ride evo

Liberty's Edge

Do you have any links for that?
You may be right, but I want to make sure everything is legal before his first PFS games in July.

I'd hate to have given up my dream of riding in a kangaroo's pouch, if it was actually legal with a feat or skill points.

Why can't I ride my chocobo eidolon?

Because you didn't take levels yet in the Chocobo Knight PrC yet, silly.

Liberty's Edge

Wouldn't a chocolate eidolon melt in the sun?

Apparently chocobos are a type of mount in the Final Fantasy games.(If I'm wrong, could somebody please correct me).
And it should be possible to ride a biped eidolon. Children often ride their parents when they're young, after all.

Yup, the chocobo is an adorable creature found throughout the series. And they'd make an excellent choice for an eidolon. There's an old thread that deals with the Final Fantasy creatures as eidolons somewhere in the playtest threads I believe, and they got statted up in Dragon before the end.

And 'riding' one's fellow creatures is how one comes to be blessed with children...

Sovereign Court

Stop it, now! This is all getting silly!
This is a serious thread, for serious people.

And on that serious note, I must point out that the Summoner gets Ride as a class skill; not something that is given willy-nilly to just every Tom, Dick and Harry.
Surely, this implies that the designers expect it to be used by the majority of the class?

If ya search for eidolon mount in the PFS forms you will find it. I wish I knew where they posted the evo but I can not find it now.

You riding bird Eidolon may carry you, but he is not counted as a mount for an feat or skill that needs or works on a mount. I think ya also get the "unsuitable" mount mod as well.

I also found the evo posted

Joshua J. Frost wrote:
Ride (Ex): (2-point evolution) While an eidolon can normally carry its summoner should it have a high enough Strength to do so, eidolons, because of their malleable nature, are not normally able to be ridden into combat. This evolution allows an eidolon to be ridden without penalty by its summoner and allows the eidolon to use the normal mounted combat rules. The eidolon is only considered to be a suitable mount for its summoner and may not be ridden into combat by another creature. This evolution is only available to eidolons with four legs that are one size category larger than their summoner.

Bah, just build him like Master Blaster!

I think some of the Eidolon mount searches are rated for mature audiences only.

So true, a few are...a bit odd..but no worse then the "which undead are bangable" topic that shows up from time to time.
