With my lunch hour before the game, I sung into a digital tape recorder, put the file onto my computer and butchered it with a freeware audio editor. The resulting mix I put onto my phone and played it in a loop at a very low volume (so low the players couldn't make out the words, just the tempo) and slowly raised it a notch at the beginning of every initiative. They loved it. Word of warning though - don't do this at a convention - apparently people not playing your game isn't too fond of it.

Linked. I'll have to listen to it later though... :(

That is pretty cool, I'm sure my RotRL DM will get a kick out of it!
I'm going to try and peice some goblin-ish pics together for a video, is it okay with you if I do? I know I'll just toy around with the idea, but when I get finished I'd like to know if I could put it on YouTube. It would be my first upload...

Well the AP mentions them being high pitched. And I was using a freeware program to edit my voice, and I am naturally around a baritone so it was the best I could get. Anything more sounded really robotic and/or helium. But not bad for one hour of work in a cube of an office, eh?
I should note that there are three voices singing that. I offset one by 1 millisecond and have each one at a slightly different pitch to give it a group sound.

What's the freeware software? You have me curious. :D

It's called "Audacity" - it was the first freeware/trial whatever that would allow me to save my audio file. However, it wouldn't let me save it as an MP3 - I had to save it as a WAV file then use my VCL player on my computer to save it as an MP3.
I jumped through a lot of hoops but for something that I was going to only use once for 10 minutes, I didn't feel like shelling out $50+ for a semi-professional software package.

Here it is, the Goblin Song with pics!

Ok. so i've heard markusdark's version of the goblin song. and i'm PRAYING that there's a better version of it out there somewhere....hordes of Pathfinder fans and that synthesized crap is the best anyone can come up with?
Waiting to hear yours...
There are those who will do their best to create something that will enhance their, and others, play experience and people will enjoy and then there are those who won't raise a finger to do it but will criticize anyone who does.

Well, for those interested, I uploaded my own version. It's just me singing it in my "goblin voice". Don't have any editing software, or I might have tried to make this sound like a mob. Anyways, here's the link.

Love the goblin voice! Got any tips for this DM?

I'm with Markusdark. Let's see what you can do. (Seriously though, the more the merrier.)
And Markus, if yours is the version I think it is, it's been my favourite so far. Any chance of the new ones in "We Be Goblins"?

Start by trying to imitate Stitch's voice from Lilo and Stitch. Sort of halfway close your throat, then try to talk a little high pitched. Then add a little bit of a rasp to it. I honestly don't know how to describe how to do that part. Different voices just seem to come natural to me. My wife, and others, have said I need to get into voice-acting.
I may do the other goblin songs soon. Need to try and figure out how to change the tone just enough to make each goblin's song sound like it was sung by a different goblin. Couple of weeks of practice and I should have at least one figured out. ;)

You know, one thing I've never worked out is why goblins would be singing in Taldane when the vast majority of them don't have the Intelligence points to take a second language. Do they even know the meaning of what they're singing? Are they singing in rote-learned Taldane in an attempt to frighten their opponents?
It always made more sense to me that the goblins should be singing in Goblin. But then that makes me wonder why their songs always rhyme in Taldane.
Perhaps I'm just overthinking it? ; )

Rule of cool?
Seriously though, the way goblins fear words I can't imagine them having an organised language at all. Where they pick up words from would probably depend on their proximity to human turf... Or if they were subserviant to something more sisnister. (Say, Hobgoblins).

Well, plenty of cultures have a culture of oral literature or tradition without literacy. In fact, the lack of literacy is often what prompts an oral culture to spring up. So that part has never bothered me.
Unfortunately, the whole goblins speaking Taldane thing bothers me enough that I will be dropping the goblin song concept entirely; if I can't get behind it as a GM it won't work well. I will probably replace it with discordant goblin music, if anything.

Ah, you make a good point. Here I am not making the distinction between written words and oral ones.
That said, I definately think you're overthinking it. The Goblin songs are a big part of their charm. (If you haven't checked out We Be Goblins yet, it's full of them... and there are whole threads here dedicated to them). The important thing is to have fun singing it (or use one of these fantastic recordings. :P)
I think your main problem in enforcing this language barrier is it means your PCs can't communicate with the little bastards. The adventure does a lot to establish them as little monsters already, they dont need a whole language to enforce this. With the language barrier they can't interrogate them, bluff them, or anything like that... This might be a problem with Gogmurt, who'll surrender mid encounter (and I've seen some DMs... EvilLincoln, I'm looking at you... that've had a lot of fun with him, turning the rope bridge trap into a classic double-cross. (though a goblin communicating in pantomime would be a real laugh...)
If it makes you feel any better though, the only ones that are singing are the warchanters (who get linguistics as a class skill, for striking fear into the man village!). The rest of the goblins are probably just yabbering and shrieking in time with the chorus.

I don't disagree in the slightest--but I should also add that of the five of us, three have studied linguistics at a tertiary level (to varying depths), so we're all rather hyper-aware of this stuff as it is. Add my compulsive need to have everything line up just so and, well... ; )
I think your main problem in enforcing this language barrier is it means your PCs can't communicate with the little bastards.
Yes, that had occurred to me as a problem. Honestly I fully expect that at least one of the PCs will speak Goblin (at least one of us usually does). In the unlikely event that doesn't happen, I have it covered.
When she comes to town, Shalelu mentions that:
...from what I’ve been able to piece together, members of all five tribes were involved in the raid on Sandpoint. A fair amount of the Mosswood tribe goblins I dealt with yesterday were already pretty beat up...
(Emphasis mine.)
So I've created all five tribes--with each tribe having a different distribution of scores. I've assumed the standard goblin in the Bestiary is a Thistletop goblin, but for the other four tribes I've redistributed the Basic NPC array so that, for instance, the Birdcrunchers have a high wisdom stat.
I've then assumed that the different tribes have sent a variable number of their tribesmen on the initial assault. After all, the adventure does state that "dozens of goblins take part in the raid" (page 11). Between that and the Bestiary entry stating that a goblin tribe numbers "17+" plus 100% noncombatants, there are a heck of a lot of goblins in the Sandpoint hinterlands--like well over two hundred.
Since a few goblins have PC classes and hence Heroic NPC arrays, some of them will inevitably speak Taldane. If the PCs kill all the versions of them that they come across themselves (e.g. the warchanter accompanying the pyromaniacs) then one can easily be captured 'offscreen' by an NPC. With Belor busy trying to stop Daviren from murdering the captured goblin(s) on the spot, and the watchmen/militia busy restoring general order to the streets, it even makes sense for the PCs to conduct the interrogation themselves.
You make a good point about Gogmurt; with an Intelligence of 8 he won't be doing much communicating in Taldane. Pantomime actually sounds really cool--as does making Sense Motive checks to understand said messages! Having said that, I haven't got to rebuilding him yet, so I may change his stats--although probably not by that much.
I do have plans to use an entire squad of warchanters at one point, so I may well use a goblin song during the adventure, but just not in the way it's described in the original adventure text.

Ok, so here's a new version of my goblin song. Downloaded a couple of editing programs that allowed me to fool around with pitch and making multiple tracks in the same file. Now it sounds like a group singing, and there's some miscellaneous lauging and shouting in the background. Enjoy!
