Two questions, semi-related as they both involve the WotR path

1.Longevity doens't stop you from aging per se, but stops any negative physical effects(ok, third question: would that include senility?)...Immortal means you can't die (easily).so is it fair to assume if you take both, you just stop aging at all, or is that a "left to GM's discretion" thing? being an unkillable demigod that still keeps gettign older would kinda suck.

2.)the concept of Nocticula redeeming/somehow transforming herself into more than just another demon lord has come up several times, both in the AP and out of it...is there a definitive resolution/attempt in the works for this reoccuring plot thread?

it was a home game.

Wow. I didn't check the message boards for a few weeks and not only did my GM (yes, "Tolvin" was the person in question) post in, it seems to have sparked quite the debate. Doubly ironic since i just saw the guy today and he never even mentioned making the post.

As for his account of events,it's SORT of what happened. Yes, i suggested the switch to Pathfinder . Yes, we had disputes over several of the rules that he decided to creatively interpet. Said creative interpetations included "character audits" where rewards he had given us in previous sessions would be rescended..usually after I had been using them to positive effect. "oh, that adamantine Longsword you bought 4 sessions back? I've decded that was above the cap for the region, so even theough there ARE technicly factions that COULD have provided it in game, it's not adamantine anymore." (At least he let me get the gold I had saved up to buy it back) ""oh, about that dragonrider shield i gave you as a quest reward? I think that was a little overwpwered, so I'm just going to remove some of those abilities from it now." So all of a sudden my paladin who had an adamantine longsword and a sheild that granted minor fire resistance had niether...just in time for him to toss enemies at us who used sunder weapon and fire spells. what a coincidence. I put up with it though becuas he WAS new to the system. The bit with the wands was simply the last straw.
As for the rest, ..i would say that i was in the right on most of the rules quesitons i brought up...it wasn't a case of the GM exercising his right to make house rules, he was simply misinterpeting a lot of stuff, and i tried to call him on it. Naturally, he says diffrently, and as we've gone our seperate ways by this point, the right and wrong of it is a bit of a moot point. If trying to correct an erroneous ruling makes me a difficult player, i'll take the label and wear it proudly.

One last point of Tolvin's post i WILL contest though...i DID try to contact pathfinder...that's why I came here, made my post, and took the advice I found here (which i thank the posters for again by the way) to him in a logical argument that he decided to ignore. and THEN i walked away.

mmm...I tried Society for awhile...ran into too many TPKs where CE characters masquerading as CN,(or as I like to call it, LOLfull Evil)did fun things like set granaries on fire while the party was still in them, ignore their vows as a paladin and let the Big Bad of the module tear through us while they set the building on fire (no reason or faction goal, he was just a pyro), attack the "gnome" stuck in the summoning circle that was OBVIOUSLY a demon, thus breaking the circle and letting it loose, and walking into a bar and killing EVERYONE before remembering we needed to TALK to some of them to actually continue the module. Different people in each case, by the way. Maybe there's something in the water around Raleigh.

That being said, I recognize Pathfinder Society as a useful teaching tool and a good way for players who can't manage an ongoing campaign toget a game in, and recommend it to new players....I just prefer something a little more stable.

no, he didn't play 4th ed. and he said wizards still could, because "wizards are different from sorcerers" mostly because a wizard COULD theoreticaly know every possible spell if he had them in his book., whereas sorcerers can only know a few. I believe part of his justification, or at least his excuse, was that the two classes are too similar.

to hear him explain it, back during 3.5 he called D&D's help line for a ruling, and THAT'S where he got the idea. and he kept going back to the "use magic device" skill instead of paying any attion to the paladin passage or the other info(even when I showed it to him in the book)

and yeah, the guy's been playing it fast and loose with the rules for awhile now..mostly nerfing PC abilities and items..often several sessions after they were awarded as part of "character audits" this nonsense with the wands was just the last straw. Though in his defence he IS new to this particular system.

Yeah, I went with the "find new GM" option. Pointed the passages right out to him and he just kept on re-interpeting the "spell list" part to mean it only applied to spells on your personal list you had learned. twit.

unfortunately, my GM is refusing to agree, despite being shown the relevant text. at this point I need Word Of God form an actual developer. Does anyone know how i can contact them to get a ruling?

oh, and what about traits like improved natural armor...getting a baseline +1 bonus isn't bad(2rp), but minotaurs have a bonus of +5 normally..whutup witht that?

Hokay...i'm trying to use the advanced race guide to build me a minotaur...but certain abilities they're listed as having aren't actually listed in the guide...things like natural cunning or thier immunity to maze spells....I could care LESS about the monstrous hit dice, which was the main reason thier CR was so inflated in D&D 3.5.

also, any advice as to applying the savage species rules to diffuse the impact on my CL would be lovely.

ah, my GM is currently saying, NO, i have to know magic missle to be able to cast it without resorting to the skill Use Magic Device. he's the sort that won't believe me unless i get a WOG ruling...thus my coming here. (hopefully a Dev will see this post and take pity..or enough people agreeing with me will sway my GM's opinion)

side note: i know the caster level check still applies if i cast a spell higher level than mine. (for instance, using a Magic Missle at CL 9 when i'm still only level 1, or using a wand of fireball at level 1). but that check is NOT the same as the Use magic item check.

now, as I understand it, a Sorcerer can use a wand of any spell on his spell list.(Yes, I know all about the Use magic Device skill and the DC 20 check. I'm talking about when you're NOT resorting to this skill.) Does this mean the sorcerer can use a wand of ANY sorcerer spell as listed in the Spell section of the book under sorcerer/wizard, or can he only use wands that cast spells on his PERSONAL spell list..ie spells he's personally learned?

Example: My 1st level sorcerer knows Mage Armor and Shield and can cast them the normal amount of times per day. but he has a wand of Magic Missle...which is on the list for his class, but is NOT a spell he knows personally.(for now) Can he use the wand WITHOUT resorting to a roll on Use Magic Device?

The other aspects that specify alignment all do so along the Good-Evil axis only. As the monk class must be Lawful except where a specific example is given, such as the Martial Artist, and no specific example is given here, then the character must still be Lawful. The alignment information on the animal aspects is not a "bonus" deviation from the monk restriction, but an additional requirement. For example you cannot be an Oni aspect UNLESS you are evil.

As for the reincarnation, why would he lose a level? It says it functions as the reincarnate spell.

A reincarnated creature recalls the majority of its former life and form. It retains any class abilities, feats, or skill ranks it formerly possessed. Its class, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, and hit points are unchanged.

it ALSO says the subject gains two permanant negative levels. though i suppose he could go get restoration...maybe.

Ok. I'm a BIG fan of the Monkey King. (Sun Wukong)and when I found out that upon reaching the upper levels (17 for tnrasformation, 20 for Immortality) you can BECOME a version/imitation of him, i loved the idea. The question i have though is this: it says in the APG that the Monkey monk can be of any alignment...but is he still restricted to LAWFUL alignments to reach that 20th level? and for that matter, after he reincarnates...is he no longer 20th level, and thus loses that ability until he adventures his way back up to 20 again?

now, as i understand it (even though it doens't actually SAY once per day in the blood of angels book)Angel-blooded aasimar can cast alter self as a spell-like ability. I know all about the possible STR and DEX bonus thing, but honestly...what i really want it for is to be able to hide the wings once i grow them. So just to clarify..it's ONLY once per day (no renewing it once duration of first casting ends or simply shifting back to default)and there's NO official feat to extend the duration to something useful like 1/hour? Offical ruling on this would be nice if any of the Devs are watching.

GM requires OFFICIAL ruling from Paizo to allow it.

I'm designing a monk for a Rise of Runelords campaign, and there's some argument as to whether or not, as a monk/exotic weapon, the Weapons Finesse feat can be applied to using a Meteor Hammer. I've also heard something about "finesse" being a weapon QUALITY? can anyone point me in the direction of some "official" info on the matter?

Longtime Pathfinder fan looking to put a game together in the raleigh, NC area. Scheduling's flexible, and i"m willing to GM if noone else wants to. (I've got campaign paths availible as well as standalone adventures)

i'd like to play, but would need to know exactly when on weekends we would be playing..work schedule and all that. I'm on EST.

This has probably been asked umpteen times before, but ARE there any plans for a Pathfinder-based computer game?

Ok. so i've heard markusdark's version of the goblin song. and i'm PRAYING that there's a better version of it out there somewhere....hordes of Pathfinder fans and that synthesized crap is the best anyone can come up with?

Hmmm....there was that one time where my party flubbed a social interaction roll and wound up setting the local Inn on fire...then ran to keep from getting arrested. All except for the cleric, who stayed true to her good alignment and used create water to put out the flames so noone would get hurt...of course, the local government being corrupt, the cleric is promptly arrested and therest of the party has to go do a spot of graverobbing in a cemetary guarded by a cult of wee jas if they want to get her out. So they go..in full armor and gear, failing stealth checks abysmally, and the party sorcerer using a wand of Burning hands on everything that moves. so when 3 acolytes of wee jas show up, of course there's a fight. at which point the necromancer starts summoning undead, the split level monk/cleric starts laying down touch-attack inflict spells on the party tanks...and the full cleric of wee jas just starts channelling negative energy the whole while.(excluding her own living allies of course...the summoned undead didn't mind in the least) and the party's main tank, a fighter, got hit with a cause fear spell for maximum duration, so SHE just spent the entire combat running away! The party scatters...mission was a complete botch, they lost the sorcerer and thief, and the cultists used speak with dead on the thief to find out what was going on...then animated the corpse of the sorcere and sent him walking down main street of the town bearing a scroll addressed to thier employer asking him to please not try any more shenanigans in thier territirry otherwise they were going to have to come to town and...have words.

also, don't forget to spread out your skills a bit. Since rogues have so many points availible at 1st level, i would STRONGLY reccomend putting one point into most knowledges (arcana, religion, dungeoneering, planes, nature in particular) even if they're not in class..because if you DON'T, you can never have a knowledge check in those categories that reaches above 10. I've been in plenty of situations where when fighting undead, my cleric rolled crappy, but my piddly 1 skill point let me roll high enough on a d20 to let my character know stuff like WHY it's a bad idea to go into melee combat with a shadow., or not to bother wasting valuble fire-related items on an enemy that's immune to it.

I blame the Dresden files. magic gets thrown around there all the time..but the laws of physics still exist. fire is still fire, electricity is still electricity, etc. I mean...look at the room you're in. imagine someone suddenly made two of the walls disspear. NOW imagine someone putting tons of pressure on the cieling from above...only that pressure is no longer supported as it used to be. once the magic effect that moved those walls is gone, gravity, pressure, physics still take hold....

ProfessorCirno wrote:

I don't think "scent" when I think minotaurs.

Heck, I didn't know they had it in the first place.

it's been there since 2nd edition D&D at least....i'd say it's an oversight. (I certainly includ ethe ability in any campaign I'm running?)

Ok...I'm running a campaign where one of my characters just got and is using stone shape as a spell. So far she's used it twice...once to clear away a wall of stone that was blocking an elevator shaft in a mine, and another to block off a 5-foot passage in a tunnel with a 2 inch thick wall of stone by reshaping the pre-existing stone of the tunnel itself.

A point of rather vehement contention arose when i asked that she make a skill check to determine how the effect of quickly rearranging that much stone(in the second use of the spell) would affect the stability of the passageway(she wound up causing a minor cave-in, though noone was hurt by it)
Now, i understand "this is magic" I mean...duh. But magicaly summoned fire still acts like fire(burning hands in a flammable wooden building is a bad idea), electricity like electricity(don't use when you and your target are both standing in a body of water) and reshaping stone like it was clay doesn't create additional material..it quickly and abruptly moves what's already there....am I wrong to expect there to be consequenses for the environment when stone that was keeping the wall of a tunnel intact is suddenly moved elsewhere?

OK. I have a PC who wants to take up crafting..but doesn't want to invest in ALL the diffrent feats needed to create the full range of magic items. So she's wanting to know if she can use the Craft Wonderous Items feat to create an AMULET of Protection instead of a ring of protection. the item would function exactly like the classic ring of protection..except it would be an amulet. Can't really find anything in the rules about it one way or the other. Would it cost extra, would the DC for the skill check be higher....I can always institute "house rules" but I'd like to know what the official ruling on that sort of thing is.

I'm currently recruiting for a campaign in the Raleigh/Garner area. Mixed 3.5 and pathfinder rules. if anyone's interested, drop me a line

Well, I'm trying to get back into gaming as well...how does the Pathfinder Society compare to RPGA style play? I saw a lot of that back at Lost Goblin while it was open and I was participating in hombebrew/less regulated campaigns..is it similar?

p.s if you're looking for a place to host, my house(located in Garner) can seat 6 easy..and that's if we ignore the kitchen table and it's chairs. there's room enoough to do multiple tables if neccassary.

I'm in raliegh, and I'd be more than happy to..assuming you haven't jumped on the 4th edition bandwagon.

hey!

just downloaded the Pathfinder stuff and am itching to give it a shot. Anyone near Raleigh interested in playing as well?

Looking for a weekend game....I can run if needed, but being able to be a PC would be great too. PnP would be great if anyone's in the area, but if not, chat's doable. As for campaigns I'm willing to run,
Rise of the Runelords
Age of Worms
Savage Tide
homebrew(material culled from about a dozen diffrent sources when not made up whole cloth, custom world.)

if anyone's interested, send me an email or a message at Yahoo IM(handle's the same as my email address)

Well, I'm not sure HOW you'll go about playing (hiya, new to the messageboard, longtime admirer of Pathfinder though.ESPECIALLY now that 4ed has come out. bleah) but if this is an online thing, and you're still taking alts, put me down for a Bard. yes, that's right, a Bard. I LIKE the little knowledge/skill monkeys...they're damn useful if you know what to do with them. Hell, i might make it a gnome out of sheer spite.
