Busy day, so I'll post now for round 2...

Round 2:

Spoiler:
Attack with scarf: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8; damage 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Cardon uses his scarf to hit squares where the spiders are not, thereby herding them towards the nasty fighters actually able to hit the broad side of a barn...

Male Human Fighter 1

Round 2

Grinning like he only does when he's ending lives, Kovellus hefts his hammer for another massive blow on a different target.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 4) + 9 = 14

Yup, thats a kill...

Yes I am taking a level in barbarian next lol. I am kind of expecting Kovellus to die horribly in battle though as well.

Female Human (Varisian) Magus (Hexcrafter/Kapenia Dancer) 1

Round Two:
Intoning another mystical word of power, Emyralda points at the spider threatening Andrezi, sending a small orb of acid toward its bloated body.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 2 - 4 = 6 (included penalty for firing into melee)
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Emyralda and Cardon both launch rapid attacks at the spider, but it nimbly dodges both. Unfortunately for the vermin, as it dodges Cardon's strike it steps directly into Kovellus's blow, ending it's life.

50xp for everyone. Down the hold, now? Or will you try to make your way to the door.

Male Human Fighter 1

Filthy vermin...

Yup, down the hold as planned.

Female Human Ranger 1

Agreed. What's in the hold, anyway? I'm guessing a rapscoundrel like Lamm has some dirty laundry...

Lily quickly scans the hold, once it is secure.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Darn that change in Light, coming in from the bright sunshine...

Male Half-Orc Cleric / 1st

Unlike Lily, Tosk had curiosity for little but the foe on the rickety ship. He'd not seen anything like the spiders before, though he was not afraid of them; he felt there was more wicked surprises in store for the mismatched group.

His darkvision not failing him, Tosk stepped confidently to the doorway, not interested in whatever baubles lay among the dilapidated vessels now-dead arachnids.

"It's him, not his things, we are after." Tosk moved to proceed through the doorway, hoping the rest of them would come with him instead of searching. The large human had proven quite strong of arm and short of patience, so Tosk guessed he might follow suit.

And he guessed correctly. Kovellus seemed intent on little else, and fidgeted and hefted his hammer constantly whenever there was any delay.

Female Human Ranger 1

Let's discuss, since I'm worried that we're on different pages. I'm not trying to plunder Lamm's things, I'm trying to get into the boat in a way that doesn't risk me falling into the water. I am no acrobat, and I think I heard Sully mention a shark fin swimming around. If everyone else wants to risk the Acrobatics check to go in the door, I'll certainly follow suit after everyone else. Otherwise, going down in the hold and finding a safer way up is a perfectly legitimate strategy. While we're down there, if we can find evidence of further misdeeds, so much the better. Anything that will go toward making us look like heroes instead of vigilantes is probably a good thing.

Male Human Fighter 1

I assumed Tosk meant he was going into the hold instead of searching it. Kovellus did and still does want to go into the hold lol.

Male Half-Orc Cleric / 1st

While I understand you have good reasons for Lily's actions, Tosk is rather single-minded right now - just playing in character.

Cardon slips down into the hold and starts looking about for doors or hatches, listening at any he finds.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

I'm slightly confused. Some people are referring to slipping through a hole in the deck into the hold, while others reference a doorway. Which is it actually? I thought the spiders were climbing up the hole that somebody made falling through rotten floor boards.

Female Human Ranger 1

It's a little bit confusing, but I think the situation is:

There's a dock, leading to a boat. There's a door on the boat, but there's a bit of deck between the dock and the door. When Andrezi stepped onto the deck, he almost fell through it and into the hold. So, there's a hole in the deck between us and the door. Or at least, there was, since we're now going down into the hole instead of making any more of them involuntarily. :)

Sorry for lack of posting yesterday. Sixteen hour day at work plus migraine equals early bedtime.

To clarify, the ship you are on is rickety and weather-beaten, and barely seaworthy. Andrezi punched a hole in the top deck which opened a passageway to the interior hold below. The cabin sits on the aft portion of the ship, and that is where the door is. I was under the impression that everyone was going to climb in the hole Andrezi inadvertantly punched in the deck - which incidentally is where the spiders came from.

Cardon clambers easily down into the dank, musty hold using the stacked crates and barrels as a makeshift ladder. Anything that was once held in the containers has long since rotted and become useless. Spider webs hang from every surface and cover nearly every corner. Thousands, if not millions, of tiny spiders scramble through the webs frantically. A trapdoor with a ladder leading to it obviously lead to the cabin above.

Cardon pokes around the hold, and finds an area where the tar and webs that line the rest of the interior walls has been scraped away. Its purpose, however, evades him.

Perception check DC 15 -

Spoiler:
Upon further examination, the area Cardon found is in actuality a cunningly hidden door that swings outwards away from the hold.

Andrezi will climb down through the hole as well.

Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Male Human Fighter 1

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Kovellus climbs down, looks around and mutters-Up the trapdoor then?

Female Human (Varisian) Magus (Hexcrafter/Kapenia Dancer) 1

Emyralda climbs down carefully behing Andrezi and Kovellus.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14

Kovellus Vossare wrote:
Up the trapdoor then?

"That would seem to make sense," Emyralda responds to the warrior's question. "Maybe Tosk and Lily should come at the cabin from the topside, while we enter through the trapdoor. That way, we can keep anyone inside from slipping past us."

Aid another on the perception check is possible, with the highest check being the primary similar to how I do it for Kingmaker, which means Emyralda can read the spoiler text.

Male Human Fighter 1

I even failed my aid :P. But perception is a Barbarian class skill ;)

Emyralda looks closer at the area Cardon found. "Wait a second- That looks like a hidden door that would swing outward away from the hold..."

"Where? By the Veil, how could I miss something like that?"

Male Human Fighter 1

Does it need kicking down Lady, or do you wish to try and open it normally?

"I shall leave that to your discretion, Goodsir," Emyralda says with a grin and a nod to Kovellus, not used to someone calling her 'Lady.'

Male Human Fighter 1

Kovellus scrutinises the door for a moment, then pauses.

Say Half-Orc? Come give me a hand with this one. Lets make a dramatic entrance eh...

With or without Tosk's help, Kovellus attempts to boot down the hidden door Emyralda pointed out to him.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 (Assumes Tosk's assistance)

Male Half-Orc Cleric / 1st

Tosk, eager to help after climbing down, has no qualms with assisting the large man in breaking the door.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Male Human Fighter 1

Heh 26... Hope someone is standing behind the door :P

Female Human Ranger 1

You mean was standing behind the door. heh.

Just a quick heads up - my home computer has seemingly committed seppuku well before its time. I'm in the process of fixing it, so my only posts will come from work until I'm able to get it squared away. I apologize in advance for spotty posting.

Sorry guys. Computer is still down for the count and I've been working 12-15 hour days this week. Be back as soon as I can. Thanks for being patient.

Female Human Ranger 1

No problem, Sully.

Thanks for the update, Alex! Looking forward to starting back up!

Female Human (Varisian) Magus (Hexcrafter/Kapenia Dancer) 1

I will be leaving for a week-long vacation tomorrow (July 10). The place where we're staying supposedly has internet access, but we'll find out for sure tomorrow. So if we get started back up and you don't hear from me in a day or two, please feel free to run Emyralda. Thanks!

Female Human Ranger 1

Yep, I'm still around too, just waiting. I actually built myself a new PC in the downtime!

Here's an update from Sully...

PC is still in the shop. They screwed up when they were fiddling with it, and now they need to order a new motherboard. On top of that, I've been travelling for business and a mini-vacation and things have been absolutely crazy.

I miss you guys on the boards, but I hope to be back ASAP. Please let everyone know that I'm not the type to disappear and not come back, and as soon as it's humanly possible, I'll be back around.

I've got GenCon this weekend, too, which only adds to the lunacy. Keep on waiting, guys! I'll be back!

Thanks,

Josh
