I really need to go shopping, not sure why I keep putting it off.

Great! That gets us to 25 charges even if Bran and Jonagher need their cash for other stuff.

Curn, may I also suggest some masterwork drums with a +1 competence bonus enchantment added? +3 to your Perform (Drum) for a mere 200 gp.

Alternatively, if you're planning to take Oratory as your 2nd level Versatile Performance skill, an item granting a competence bonus to Perform (Oratory) will effectively add bonuses to both Diplomacy and Sense Motive.

That sounds exhausting, but fun. Good luck!

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Indeed, good luck!

Also, Curn, your procrastination may have worked in your favor at this point. With the release of Smuggler's Shiv, and the upcoming player's guide, I would like to give you all an opportunity to retool your characters.

The information from the actual adventure path released is primarily just fluff, but I can assume that the player's guide will provide more information.

Also, the APG just released, though I don't have it (I trust you), you may retool with anything in there if you desire.

I will put up a recruitment thread, and perhaps we can work on getting another player since we all realize that any of us who go to GenCon are effectively incommunicado for the time being...and I don't blame anyone...wish I had saved up to go. ;)

EDIT 1: Also, during this time, please advance your characters to level 2

EDIT 2: Here is the recruitment thread

Bran will pitch in 200 gold to add more charges.

Hit point roll for level 2: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Make sure you get at least one, and keep another in the wings. I might be leaving the group near the end of August. I go back to work on the 17th and then school starts on the 25th. This year is going to be hectic with budget cuts and a lot more students than projected. I'm not saying I'm bailing yet, but it could happen I would like for the group to be prepared.

Thanks! 200 + 200 + 200 (?) = 40 charges of CLW goodness.

I hope that you can stay in the game, hedgeknight. But thanks for the early warning if you can't.

hedgeknight wrote:
bad hp roll for Bran

Your unlucky roll raises the question of how to handle hp rolls for leveling. Here are some options:

1) Old school: Roll, and suck it up if you get low.

2) Fixed: Everyone gets 1/2 the die or 1/2 + 1 (i.e., 5 or 6 for Bran) plus Con bonus. I think that PFS Organized Play does this. Half plus one slightly favors classes with smaller HD, but it prevents long strings of bad rolls.

3) Softie old school: Roll, but it defaults to 2) if you go below 2). I used this when I had time to play offline.

4) Lollypop land: Max hit points/HD. And a lollypop! Enticing, until you realize that most boss monsters have more HD than PCs do.

I'm fine with any of these, but have some preference for 2) or 3). If nobody else cares, I'll just follow Bran's lead with 1).

For DM Berwick

Spoiler:

I'm fine with the new characters using APG classes in the game if you are. I think that we used that limitation because they were only out in beta form while we were making the characters.

But your call, of course.

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Actually, the one I am used to involves rerolling 1's and 3's, but #2 sounds just fine. It does favor the classes with lower HD, but then again...they have lower HD. They will have a higher percentage of there HP potential, but I fully expect to see higher HD classes still out perform them in HP's...that and as previously stated, the BBEG's will stick to the same rule.

Having said that, then Bran will get 7 hp instead.

Also, I would like to hear from you guys on letting the new players pick from APG classes. The reason I put that in there, was that you weren't given that choice, so I wanted to keep the playing field level as it were. If you are fine with it by simple majority vote, then so am I.

Let me know asap on the allowance of APG classes though please.

Berwick

Silver Crusade

I vote to let the new players pick from APG classes. I'd like to see them in action.

Will update Bran's hp - I like this option; don't have to think about it.

As for APG stuff...don't care. I don't have the book...might buy the PDF.

BTW...how much gold (total) did we receive once all of the baddies were killed off and we were paid/rewarded/etc? I know you've probably listed this somewhere, but dang it, I can't find it!

Liberty's Edge

I'm fine with APG classes.

Hedgeknight, I was informed (b/c I didn't write it down at the time either) that it was 900gp, all told.

hedgeknight wrote:

I'd recommend the PDF. Only $10, and you can decide if you like it enough to buy the book. That's what I'm doing with it.

If I have time tonight, I'll try to look through the thread for the gold tally.

By the way, I'll be travelling tomorrow and will likely be without computer access for the day (not that it matters much while we're on hiatus).

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Speaking of hiatus, I need to retcon something while we wait.

The boat you get on from Absalom is not the Janivere, as that makes a north south run from cheliax to sargava, but will be another boat.

I will post an update probably tomorrow with the retcon.

Sleep well me hearties!

I'm happy to be wrong: We have 1260 gp each, not 900.

Boring Calculation of Cash On Hand:

Spoiler:

Dr. Impossible - Mwangi DM wrote:
Venture-Captain Hestram sighs and breaks into that big, toothless grin once more, perhaps in spite of himself. . . Tell you what, 300 gold for each of you...if you can find out what's going on, and put a stop to it, and try to get the Society back in Nigel's good graces. . . .

Okay, this is the first 300 each: our promised reward. However, Nigel added to it after the fact.

DM Berwick wrote:
"I would like to give each of you 500 gold pieces. That, combined with you 300 from Hestram, should put each of you at 800 gold."

So that's 800 with Nigel's generous bonus.

DM Berwick wrote:

The scrolls are from Saldak's room. He also gave us 500 gp from his discretionary funds (i.e., 100 gp more each). That brings us to 900, which is probably where I got the number before.

But I forgot Jonagher's sale of the spear to Hestram. That gives us more cash!

DM Berwick wrote:
"1800 is acceptable, and I would be willing to pay that, along with the aforementioned right of first purchase.

This was another 360 each, or 1260 total.

** spoiler omitted **

Dang! We're rich! Now...Bran sent some coin to his mother and sister. Gotta go find that thread...back in a minute.

Okay...got it. He sent 300 to them, plus paid the courier boy 3 gold. Threw in 200 for the CLW wand. That leaves him 757 gold, less living expenses for the week before we leave.

As for buying equipment...here's what I have:
Antitoxin (x2) - 100 gp
Antiplague (x2) - 100 gp
Body balm (x4) - 100 gp
Vermin repellent (20) - 100 gp
Compass - 1 gp
Hot weather clothing - 8 gp
Everburning Torch - 110 gp
Smokesticks (5) - 100 gp
Sunrods (10) - 20 gp
Tindertwigs (12) - 12 gp
Thunderstones (3) - 90 gp

Total cost: 741 gold
Remaining gold: 16 plus what I already had: 17 gold, 11 silver, 11 copper.

So, Bran has the following in his coin pouch: 33 gold, 11 silver, 11 copper (minus living expenses for the week).

Whew! Did I miss anything?

Silver Crusade

hedgeknight wrote:

Because Hestram got us temporary quarters in Skyreach, I think that living expenses could be effectively zero if you want to live on the cheap.

By the way, RP kudos for giving all that money to Bran's impoverished family rather than buying a masterwork weapon. :-)

hedgeknight wrote:

Looks good. I should pick up some tindertwigs myself. Origen has a pavillion tent, so that should take care of the party's requirement for shelter. As it's 40 lb, he'll probably ask Bran to carry at least part of it.

Do you want to pick up a little emergency food? Wandermeal is 3 cp/meal, so it's cheap if you want to buy a few days worth of non-perishable food.

Also, you may want to consider trading in your point of faction influence for a masterwork weapon or an endure elements item. Using the point of influence will provide up to 375 gp to spend on a single item.

Sounds like a plan. He will pick up some.

It's all on, albeit partially in the "jungle equipment" area. Except for the tindertwigs, which I can add now.

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Done! When are we starting back up again?

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Okay, we are going to be handling the vote for the new spots here in this thread.

I think I will be going for 2 new players, as hedgeknight mentioned that he would be busy starting the end of august, and Sully is still incommunicado. Please understand that those characters will still be with us, so those players may rejoin at any time.

Here is how we will do it. Hedgeknight, Eric Zylstra, NSpicer, Curn_Bounder, and I will all get to vote. You need to vote for three candidates. Rank them in order of preference. Thus, a "1" is your number one pick, and on down the line.

If you have any questions regarding this method, we are borrowing a page from our friends "down under" in a Single Transferable Voting System. No worries though...complicated for me to count, not for you to vote.

You may start your voting at 0001 Friday Morning, and I would hope to be done by Saturday so the new players have time to put final tweeks on their characters. We should begin officially on Monday.

I will start new threads for the game once we get there.

I have posted the candidates so far, here

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

The candidates look good - I already have two favorites. And unless work and life just totally consumes me, I'm not leaving this game. Especially after Bran's...encounter. I really want to see this through, so I'm gonna do my damnedest to stay onboard.

Hey guys,

Just FYI...I'm still following along, just haven't had time or energy to string together a coherent post yet. I picked up the ConCrud at GenCon and I've also got my Serpent's Skull deadline looming this weekend and still have some writing to do. So, carry on without me a bit. I'll leap back in when I can come up for air again.

Silver Crusade

Neil, sorry to hear that you're ill. I hope that it goes away soon without spreading to your family.

Good luck finishing #42. Oh, and don't forget to include a staff of the magi with "O.L." embossed on it. ;-)

Thanks for the heads up. Hope you feel better! A Hot Toddie always seems to work for me...not for everyone though. I will invite you to vote, but if you can't, I totally understand! WRITE LIKE THE WIND!

Yeah, cursing out one end, and flinging poo out the other end!

"If you have any poo, fling it now!"

By the way...where do we vote? Here? Or in another thread?

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Yes, let's vote here.

It will be the last official thing we do here, and I will have a new ooc thread opened for smuggler's shiv and what not.

I will vote last as to not sway any opinions.

Please choose three characters, ranking them in order of preference.

Such as:

1) Top choice
2) So on
3) And so forth

Let's get this done asap, so we can move into the preparatory phase for Monday!

DM Berwick

Male Mountain man Woodsman/6

Here are my votes:

1/ Yuuwa Majid with Yuuwa Majid a Quadirian female NG Cleric of Gozreh seeking to make a name for herself and family, a crew-member aboard the Jenivere

2/ F. Castor with Isandril Velahrna CG male elf fighter, crew-member aboard the Jenivere

3/ Rimrock with Ojibwe a N male human (Zenj) Druid out on a quest to find his spirit of the beast, boarded the Jenivere in the Mwangi Expanse.

My thoughts:

Spoiler:
I voted for a cleric as my first choice for obvious reasons and I think it would be good to have a female in the group. My second choice was decided this morning after I read Isandril's background - very well written and we need another front-line fighter. I'd love to have a druid in the group, one who knows the area we are going into. He can help us with the natives and any jungle taboos. I wish we could keep all three of these. I didn't vote for any CN characters because, in my experience, they just don't make good group members. Just my 2 cents. DM Berwick can delete this if he feels it inappropriate to the voting process.

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Please be advised, that Uchenda has two distinct possibilities to background and alignment. Either are eligible for voting purposes.

Silver Crusade

This is a tough choice, because a lot of the entries are neck-and-neck for me. That said, here are my votes:

1) Isandril Velahrn

2) Maxime

3) Uchendu Kybwa'ka (the LN version only)

But 2) and 3) were very hard for me to pick from among the other entries.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Educator/3, Auditor/2, Soldier/1

First off, sorry. I was incommunicado for a time and then the boards were down every time I tried to get on, so I was blind to much of this.
Here are my votes:
1) Yuuwa Majid
2) Bandlewick "Bandy" Sealegs Weathervane
3) Maxime
4) Isandril Velahrna
5) Uchendu Kybwa'ka
My vote may be in too late, and I understand that. I will refrain from being a jerk to whomever is chosen :) I think I would be find with any of the folks, and I hope those that don't make it find a great game to join.

Further I am updating Torden now (it's taken me way too long to level up.)-200 for CLW wand.
I'm trying to get back on my game guys. Sorry.

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Ok, I have been in contact with NSpicer, and his vote is as follows:

1)F. Castor with Isandril Velahrna CG male elf fighter, crew-member aboard the Jenivere

2)Yuuwa Majid with Yuuwa Majid a Quadirian female NG Cleric of Gozreh seeking to make a name for herself and family, a crew-member aboard the Jenivere

Also, my votes were:
1) Dan E. with Professor Horatio Reginald Kennington III

2) Maxime with Maxime

3) Yuuwa Majid with Yuuwa Majid.

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Ok, upon tallying the votes, we have come down to the following selections:

Yuuwa Majid with Yuuwa Majid a Quadirian female NG Cleric of Gozreh seeking to make a name for herself and family, a crew-member aboard the Jenivere

and

F. Castor with Isandril Velahrna CG male elf fighter, crew-member aboard the Jenivere

Thank you everyone for your excellent submissions and your consideration!

Sincerely,

Berwick
