Now accepting characters for a Play-By-Post game of Kingmaker. This is my first shot at a Play-By-Post, so please bear with me (though I have been GMing for decades). Don't submit a character unless you can commit to the game; unplayed characters will be run by the GM (even if it means I'm running every character in the game, dammit!).
Looking for up to seven players, any legal 1st level build (though keep in mind style of the adventure path). We're trying for a good mix of character types, and roles, so hopefully everyone doesn't want to be "king".
Game will start after I get a chance to read the adventure (so, probably just after Easter). Players are asked to please not read the adventure path, or any GM specific elements of the Guide to the River Kingdoms.
I've got to say I'm looking forward to this. Two (!) of my favorite campaigns of all time were for the 2nd Ed. Birthright setting. The Kingmaker AP is what got me to subscribe.

Like a few others, I would have to get a look at the Player's Guide before finalizing a concept. But I am thinking a concept for the King position who rose from nothing to achieve the throne. He would have taken the throne not because he necessarily wanted to, but because he felt it was the best thing to do to ensure the prosperity of the land. Thinking starting off rogue or bard with levels later in fighter.

Wow! I knew there would be interest, but... WOW! I take a few hours off to play Mass Effect 2, and come back to this!
Okay. I realize that you want to look at the Player's Guide (frankly, so do I), but what I'd like to do is start with some character concepts, and modify them when the guide comes out, so we can get started as soon as possible, and I can read the adventure with a better idea of the characters. So...
Character creation method will be 20-pt ability purchase, and any PRPG classes, races, feats, etc. published by Paizo are legal. Use the "Average" starting wealth from table 6-1 of the Core Rules for equipment, but you get a free masterwork weapon of anything you have a feat for.
Please send your characters to uriel222(at)yahoo(dot)ca, along with what role(s) you can see the character doing in a small kingdom. Try to keep the character bios and histories as short as possible, though. We can work on that after we get the group chosen. Also, provide a second choice (either an outline or full character sheet) in case your primary character doesn't fit.
Also include a note saying whether or not you'd be interested in a chat- or VOIP-based game instead (I don't think there's much interest, but I'd like to see, anyway).
I hate to turn anyone away (after all, prior experience has taught me more people join these things than complete them), but I don't think more than seven would be manageable, and even that's pushing it. Remember, even though the game itself can't start before I actually *read* the book, there's no reason we can't work on back-story before then, if interested.
Thanks again for all the interest! I know I'm really looking forward to this!

Honestly, I don't know enough about what Kingmaker's going to involve in order to even start coming up with a character concept. Unless you can provide us with the information normally contained in the Player's Guide, to ask us to do so now is jumping the gun, so to speak.
The entire point of the Player's Guide is to provide the information needed to create characters for the AP. Until we know how races, classes, and alignments are going to play a role in the adventure, we can't be expected to come up with viable concepts.
Consider the last AP, for example. Before the Player's Guide was released, no one had any idea how or what kind of paladin they'd be able to play effectively in Cheliax. It was virtually impossible to build a paladin concept for that adventure before that material was made available. Similarly, it was difficult to develop cleric concepts before the Player's Guide was released.

Dumb question how and what format do you send the characters in. This is my first attempt at trying to get into a Pbp game. Thanks
Hardly a dumb question. I haven't run a PbP game before, either, so I'm learning as I go, too. Just send it anyway you can, either text, HTML, PDF or whatever, or just cut and paste into an email. I'm not sure what's standard for these kind of games, but I can read pretty much anything.

Hey I prefer chat and voice games, but I've never tried PbP, and Kingmaker seems like a good fit for it. I don't think there is any interest in a non-PbP game, and I'm all set to run PbP, but I just thought it'd be silly to start a PbP game if everyone involved would prefer something else.
As it stands now, though, I don't think anybody except me actually likes chat or voice games, so que sera sera. I'm looking forward to the new challenge.

Hello I believe Drogar is sending in an email with a bit of information on what we had in mind to do, I will say that we are also flexible if there is anything that you would like to see come in to play.

I have read that Race won't effect the play of the game(atleast not via the AP) I have also read that when leadership comes into play there are several spots that would work for any of the classes, thus the class issue will more than likely be flexible as well. as far as alignment goes I would think that it would effect the game as it normally does, in that you roleplay your charcter with a certain morality.
I suppose there is some crunch that is yet to be seen, but as far as getting a rough Idea of what type of charcter you are leaning towards, seems like a reasonable question to me.

I agree completely, however since I get the feeling that the players are expected to be immigrants to the River Kingdoms, rather than natives (though I could be wrong), it's a little easier to make characters without the guide for this than for some other APs. And no one is going to hold you to anything if the Player's Guide makes you want to change your character before play.
Basically, I'd like to have a little more to go on than "maybe some kind of cleric?" or "some kind of combat-type". Still, if you'd really rather not make anything until the Player's Guide drops, then at least send me something giving me an idea of the role you'd like to play in the party.

Having a hard time sending you the pdf of the character, so I created an alias and just posted it here.
Here is my idea for a first level cleric or Gorum. Also considering a similar character of Abadar, according to what the party makeup is. If we need an extra warrior it will be Gorum. If we need a face it will be Abadar.
I thinking a representative / adviser from the aforementioned church sent to "Advise" a noble representative, but who has ideas and aspirations to becoming if not the crown, the power behind it. Younger son of a Brevoy noble, who sees the church as his way to power and glory.

I have an idea as to what role I want to play, so I'll send you that email. And while it does sound like the PCs are not supposed to be native to the River Kingdoms, it does sound like they're supposed to have their origins in Brevoy.

Wow! Talk about interest! I've received a ton of character ideas, and I've started sorting through them now. As i said before, I hate to reject anybody, but there's only so much space.
I'm not going to make a final decision for a few days, to give everybody a chance to submit.
Boy, I'm glad everyone is looking forward to this much as I am. If another GM wants to set up a second game, I think there would be enough players for that, too.
uriel222 |
In case anybody hasn't noticed yet, the Player's Guide is now available.
Wow. Everything is coming together, now. Let's see some full characters, people!
uriel222 |
Okay, maybe not FULL characters, but at least detailed concepts. Also, when submitting, include the "Leadership Role" (from page six of the Player's Guide) you see for your character. DO NOT CHOOSE "RULER". We don't want everybody fighting for King. We'll settle that in-game, but pick out some other role you want. That way, we'll get a good spread.
