Actually that was one of the few things I found interesting about Civil War- I would have wanted more of a mix of heroes being forced to work with "former" villains so it ended up resembling a host of Suicide Squads as opposed to the GvsE-fest that Civil War ended up becoming, but whatever.
The way it was supposedly "intended" was that you the reader were suppose to sympathize with the Pro-Registration side. But between Cap America leading the Anti-Reggers, J.M. Stracyznski turning Tony Stark into a total fascist, the camp where they were penning the supers being pretty much an absolute Hell, you'd have to be both an idiot and morally bankrupt to sympathise with them.
To add insult to injury was the crateful of idiot balls being tossed around, including Cap who dribbled quite a few himself.

There's a funny bit in A:EMH where Tony is opposing Maria Hill on Superhuman Registration.
I remember reading on a blog somewhere, the legal problems with the execution of the law, in the real world. (The funniest one being they were required to register before any sort of method of registering was set up)

What the heck does A:EMH mean, the whole point of acronyms is that people should know what they mean before you use them.

I'm actually really tired of the whole internet acronym thing, to be perfectly honest. This may sound like a "get off my lawn, you rotten kids!" rant but ... I wish people would just freaking type what they want to say.
Are we that busy (or, that lazy) that we can't take the extra couple seconds to just type the words? Effective communication is an art and a skill - typing a bunch of random letters that only a percentage of people reading your post will understand is not effective communication!
Good rule of thumb - if someone has to ask "what does that mean" after reading what you've written, odds are very good you failed at communicating your point ... which was the whole reason you posted in the first place right? To communicate a point?
... climbing down off my soapbox now ...

Ironically enough, Cap was my childhood favorite. I think it was the Scourge of the Underworld series that I was reading back then and Diamondback was the shiznit!
Ironic because you're a commie?

United States of America! United States of America!
I wonder what SHIELD is an acronym for, this week. Was HYDRA an acronym, or did they just capitalize it because they were always shouting?
Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division is the original name. Now it's an acronym for Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate. Just doesn't roll off the tongue quite so well IMO :)

Really? Suprising given how generally "UNHEROIC" the Pro-Registration side acted through the entire story arc. I would have thought that the the Pro-Registration faction was being set up as the 'antagonists.
Not to mention that this flies in the face of the entire history of the Marvel Universe.
Pity ... Marvel could have done something cool by:

I have seen CA now; went in not expecting much after seeing GL; but CA was pleasantly good and quite enjoyable; the after credits were a good pump for upcomming things as usual. This movie has much more character development than I expected; a definate worth seeing movie; I saw it in 3d and that worked pretty well; good job marvel and movie guys.

Totally off subject I enter with a question of gaming. Just moved to Deltona from New England. No longer owner of my own business and with some time on my hands, I am looking for a local gaming group NOT using 4th Edition D&D rules. I am looking to join a group of players for 3/3.5 gaming. Also enjoy D20, Whitewolf, and Paladium games as well. Scouring the net with little luck in finding a group. Let me know if you have an opening or can point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Saw Captain America yesterday, and I loved it. I was impressed that they were able to update his origin story, and keep it pretty close to canon at the same time. I loved their explanation for the "original" costume as well, worked perfectly in the story.
I went to see it with my Dad, who is a pretty serious Golden Age comic buff himself. He really enjoyed it, and he's a stickler about comic continuity and canon. I'm happy to see Marvel Studios taking the time to keep the origins proper, and update as needed.

Matthew Morris wrote:Ok just got back. Awesome movie. Lots of jokes I enjoyed. Zola's face on a screen, Human Torch cameo...Human torch cameo? I totally missed that... When was it?
Ultradan
I'm thinking the Human Torch cameo was the entire movie, since Chris Evans was Johnny Storm in the FF movies. Marvel Studios doesn't have the movie rights to FF yet, so a true cameo would be skirting some licensing issues... That or I just flat out missed it, lol.

![]() |

I didnt see a Human Torch cameo either, unless your counting the actor...
I thought the movie was pretty fantastic. Very well done, though I did have one issue:

![]() |

Human Torch Cameo:
In the Stark Expo, there's a blond haired manikin in a red bodysuit in a tube. The banner above it reads "Phineas Horton's Amazing Synthoid."
That's the orginal Human Torch.
Rumor has it they tried to work a Namor appearance in there, which would have completed the original Invaders, but they couldn't make it fit. It's also rumoured a Woverine/Magneto set of cameos were canned because of rights issues.

![]() |

Wasnt XMen First Class done by Marvel Studios, though? It has one of those cameos in it. Id think if they couldnt do it for one, they wouldnt be able to do it for the other.
Nope, First Class was in conjunction with 20th Century Fox which actually owns the rights to the X-men movie franchise. Just like Sony own the Spider-man movie franchise.
Speaking of, I saw a trailer for the new reboot movie and it looks like it's gonna be good. It seems like they might be hinting at the whole Parkers being triple agents thing. And best of all they're having web shooters in the movie!

No movie this year had the potential to disappoint me like Captain America, but thankfully I came out of the theater relieved and energized. I really enjoyed it. My biggest concern was that Chris Evans was going to bring his usual manboy-douchebaggery act to the movie, but he played it straight and really fit in well with the 40's aesthetic. He does well - as did Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. But did anyone else think Hugo sounded a little like Arnold Schwarzeneggar?

I hope you are right. I hope it is good. But that preview rankled me with its Twilighty Teen-Angst. Peter Parker was a nerd, a bookworm, and an outcast, but he was not a "wear my hoody up and sit in the corner furiously writing bad poetry" kind of kid. Not everyone who has pain in their life sinks into the abyss of emo.

That movie worries me. Everything I've heard about the "new direction" they're taking Spider-Man just reeks of Ang Lee's HULK level of "off the mark." Nothing about that trailer made me think of Spider-Man, just looked like "Twilight 4; wall crawlers". Maybe it'll tank and MArvel can scoop up the IP.

I found myself asking if it was "Peter Parkour" myself.
Besides, losing your uncle because of your inaction... how much more angst do people think he needs?

That's sort of what I think the director seriously missed with the main character; the charisma and wit of Spidey. Heck, I thought Tobey McGuire's Spidey was a tad too-serious and even before the floppy comb-over in part 3. The character of Peter Parker has plenty of tragedy in his life, one of the things that made Spider-Man so endearing to me was his ability to fight through it and still joke around. This new Spider-Man looks like they should just skip straight to the black costume and go from there.
But, it was just a trailer. Hard to pass judgment on an entire film based on 1 minute of it. But trailers are supposed to focus on selling points of the film, so if that's the case, I'm going to wait til it hits Netflix in a few years.

But did anyone else think Hugo sounded a little like Arnold Schwarzeneggar?
Arnold is from Austria, Red Skull is German. Accents are probably pretty close.

Im betting its closer to "Ive been bitten on the back of the neck by a spider, and I wanna become a spider themed superhero. I'll leave my hood up to make sure no one can see the bite, sitting in the back row so know one pulls my hood off and sees it. Class is boring, where is my notebook? What can I use for a symbol for my costume?"

I hope you are right. But the music and the editing and (let's face it) Peter's Twilighty haircut steeped that trailer in "my life is full of pain, noone understands me, my soul is the color of anguish"
But I sincerely hope you connected those dots correctly. I love Spider-Man and want this movie to be good.
Anyway, back on the Captain America train

And yes, I was happy to see the Howling Commandos as well. I have a friend who is going to freak out when he sees it. He made a huge deal that DumDum Doogan was in the Ultimate Alliance game(as a npc).

What I liked about seeing the Howling Commandos was, they didn't spell out who they were. If you're a comic book fan, you recognized them, if not, then they were 'a bunch of soldiers Cap rescued and work with him.'

Frankly, I doubt it's even possible to go more in this direction than Raimi did. His Peter Parker seemed to be teetering on the verge of suicidal depression throughout the entire trilogy. I look forward to the movie very much. And Friday Captain America will open here in the UK, so I look forward to that as well.

![]() |

Saw it today with my son. I thought it was very nicely done, esp. with the Howling Commandos and the rationale for the costume. Of the supers movies this year, I think I still liked Thor and X-Men First Class better, but this one was definitely a good one.
Best line:
"Are you sure you're ready for this?"
"Hey, I've punched out Adolf Hitler like 200 times."
Quality!
