About an hour ago, I posted a thread complaining about how Paizo discourages us from playing monstrous races. The only responses I got were comments about how to houserule rakshasa characters and how to convert races form other 3.5 sourcebooks. In frustration, I left them to their discussion--one which had nothing to do with the topic.
My question is this, and it's not completely rhetorical: Does anybody here actually read the content of a thread before posting? Because here's what I think people do:
See new thread. Read title. Read first sentence, then respond.
It'd explain a lot.
You have to understand this, and maybe it'll help you with what you're angsting about.
Thread discussions under standard conditions do not really follow normal relaxed human conversation patterns. The next time you have a conversation with a friend, or ideally a few friends, pay attention to the flow of it. One prime concept begins the conversation, and then, inevitably, someone else is reminded of something VERY INTERESTING BUT TANGENTIAL TO THE CONVERSATION'S INITIAL SUBJECT.If you pay attention to this flow, though, you can learn to subtly steer the conversation in the direction(s) you want. Or you can get frustrated and have a spat, which is what it looks like to me is starting to happen now, man.
OR, and this is a sublime maybe, you can abandon the need for control and let the magic work that takes you to concepts you didn't imagine in the first place. It's the best present you can get from your friends, and it's the best one you can offer....a fresh perspective.

And I would like to know: Why does paizo discourage us from playing monstrous races?
I didn't think it was true that Paizo was discouraging people from playing monstrous races until I started working on an adventure idea in which the players would be monstrous types defending their lair against horrible adventurers. Shortly after I started working on it, I got a cease and desist order from Paizo.
Spooky.

I laughed, I cried, I posted a non topical link.
Isn't this how all threads are supposed to go?

If it's a one page post, I read the posts. If it's two pages I skim a bit. If it's 300 pages... naw... I just look at the first and then the last few posts.
By the way, are you ever going to get that web radio thing of yours going? I haven't had time to read through most of that atomic thingie thread...

I'm not sure what you're referring to, CJ. Ed Healy started Warpig Radio (WRPG, get it?) over a year ago. Is that it?

monsters as players is discouraged ( in my opinion) because it makes it more likely that modules won't work with parties that have 1 or more monsters in them, how can your party go into towns and walk into the local tavern when it has a bugbear, orc, a couple of humans, and a kobold looking for work? the game needs structure, and that structure is good vs evil, if you wanna use monsters as characters go ahead, but don't get mad cuz paizo isn't putting out a product just for you. plus all that info in each monster description takes up space, the beastie book would probably have at least 15 less monsters or cost 10 bucks more with that info.

I dunno, I'll have to read through the thread at some point then. Maybe there's a webcast I can listen to that breaks it down.
