Seeing the ogres, and knowing the whallop they pack, Artival begins sniping at the one closest to him. He makes a couple gestures, say a quick word, and two missles erupt from his outstretched hand.

Cast Magic Missle.

Whoo! Got him I think :)

The giant barbarianess screams a war-cry, charges the Dragon Ogre slamming him into the ground, and stands over him preparing to shove her great-sword through him to pin him to the ground.

Since it's an improved overrun BT he doesn't get to avoid it and it doesn't provoke AOO's (not that it would anyway with someone with a bow)

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Too bad he is airborne ...

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

I presume Ka'kara waits until Roylenna's spell takes effect.

No sooner does the halfling finish one spell than she begins a second to enlarge Bombur.

Mahaffy wrote:

No, N'yak is airborne. I thought Seeyak was still on the ground for the moment. If not, then I'll adjust my action. I know he has wings but I thought from the description he was ahead of us on the road where he was hiding.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Seeyak is indeed airborne, and he takes care to stay out of Ka'kara's reach.

Female Human Barbarian 7
Black Tom wrote:

A wise move, he has obviously heard the tales of the legendary Ka'kara. Ok, so my reach just increased and he hasn't had the time to adjust yet, how high is he exactly?

Rhianna cries out from the pain of her wound, but then grunts and pricks her finger with her dagger, smearing the resulting blood across her face.

Falling back to stay close to Lyria while casting false life - 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 temporary hit points, coming up!

Quite possibly. Or else of other barbarians that share her tactics. He's about 30 feet up, so you should be able to poke him with your spear at least once if you stand right under him.

If he's going to be like that, we'll need to concentrate our meager ranged attacks on him. I doubt Scorching Ray will help much considering his complexion. But it should work nicely against his ground-bound brethren.

Male Dwarf Fighter 1

Bombur grunts taking the hit.

Female Human Barbarian 7

Ok, consider him poked. Just realized that Ka'kara's great-sword damage is 3d6 when enlarged not 2d8. 3d6 is better :)

Long-spear damage (assuming the above roll still hits him - AC 28): 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 2) + 16 = 23

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Seeyak roars in pain and fury as Ka'kara's impossibly long spear rips open the side of his thigh. He rises higher into the air to get out of her reach and fires a couple of arrows down at her, hitting her twice for a total 26 points of damage.

Mahaffy, Lyria (and Bombur if he likes) are up.

Male Dwarf Fighter 1

Bombur will attack one of the ogres with his waraxe, if he can.1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 281d10 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Roll to confirm critical 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 131d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy fires at Seeyak .

Sighing he begins to reload ...

Ow. Well at least he's not attacking any of you :)

32/42 HP

Lyria positions herself far away from the enemies, while staying close to the frailer members of the group. Lifting her hand up, she calls the gods for energy which spreads from her as a much stronger blue wave, healing the party members next to her.

Channel Energy for a 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) = 7 point heal. If I'm not mistaken, it should heal Rhianna, myself, Tika and Bombur, as Ka'kara is too far away.

Lyria's holy power gives you a brief relief. Above you Nyak fires a barrage of arrows, one of which actually sticks to Seeyak, who bellows in rage.

Tika is up, then the ogres.

What about the ogre in front of Bombur? Does he look hurt? How seriously?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

[ooc]Sorry.]Bombur's axe takes a chunk out of one of the ogres, but it doesn't look very hurt. Tika's arrow misses.

The ogres heft their clubs and attack, but they are clumsy and Bombur easily parries. So does Mahaffy who is set upon by another ogre. The third ogre charges Artival, who is not so lucky and takes a solid blow for 17 points. The last one attacks Ka'kara (suffering an AoO) and hits for 18 points.

[Ouch]

Ka'kara, Roylenna, Rhianna, Artival are up.

32/42 HP

Thinking about Lyria's next action - What's the biggest amount of monsters she could catch with Calm Emotions (20ft radius at 130ft range)? Seems like a good bet to change the battle a bit.

Please Lyria , to my mind , we are not supposed to know the health state of the others . If you want to note the numbers of blows they have taken , that's all right but otherwise I find it does make more difficult to act in character

BT:

Spoiler:

I think tactical positioning might be very useful for some of us. If you don't have time for a map, BT, can you give us a description like on a spreadsheet grid? Like, looking at a spreadsheet as if it is a map grid, Ka'kara's in B5,B6,C5,C6 (or B-C/5-6) and her attacker is in E5,E6,F5,F6 (or E-F/5-6). And so forth. As always, I would be happy to try to put something together for you.

And if that's not possible or you just don't want the hassle of the back and forth (I understand, I'll take no offense), can you give us some detailed description of where everyone is positioned? 'cause this little girl is lost...

With the completion of Roylenna's second spell, the dwarven warrior increases in size like Ka'kara. Bombur, you gain +2 STR bonus, -2 DEX penalty, -1 size penalty to attack and AC, your reach doubles, and your weapon damage goes up one size category to 2d8. Go get 'em, tiger!

Waiting to see where exactly the bad guys are before I determine what to do for this round.

OK, I'll try to describe how I figure it. You were marching on a rather narrow path (something like double file). The ogres appeared parallel to the road and about 25 feet away. The two back ogres have moved adjacent to you and are pounding Artival and Mahaffy (using their reach). Bombur advanced to attack the right foremost ogre, and the left foremost ogre has run forward about 30 feet to where Ka'kara stands jabbing her spear into the air. Nyak is hovering above you and Seeyak is about 30 feet ahead and slightly higher up. The donkeys will have run off by now I guess. You can gather them later.

Hope that helps. You will have the benefit of doubt to I leave it to you to configure the battlefield along these lines.

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

BT, I might want to redo my action just described depending on the map. Are Maffy and I pretty much beside each other? The reason I am asking is that I would like to try a color spray instead of a magic missle, if it can be cast without hitting another party member. My assumption was that we were too jumbled up on each other to cast a spell with that area of effect, but I just wanted to check. And if you would prefer to let this round resolve since I already declared an action, I understand that too.

You are absolutely free to try a Color Spray if you like. You do have a clear shot, since the ogres are coming in from the side.

Ooo ooo, does that mean that Ka'kara was within range of Lyria's channeling? It goes 30' feet from her, right? Every little bit of healing helps :)

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

Thanks BT. In that case, let me try color spray. I am not sure if it will get both my ogre and Maffy's orge in the area of effect, but I am going to try it anyway. 5' step back before casting. Ignore my last post re Magic Missle damage.

"Urgh, a little help...,"Artival manages to croak out, after being bashed by the ogre. The wounded sorceror takes a step back, attempting to get out of easy range for the ogre, and casts a spell at his combatant.

DC 14 Will for the ogre(s)

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Oh, Ka'kara, you make the decisions so hard sometimes.

"Ka'kara, come back! Rhianna, do you have a solution for the flyer?"

Roylenna takes a 5' step away from the combatants at the back of the party (toward the front) and casts a beam of flame Scorching Ray at Ka'kara's earthbound foe.

Ranged touch attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Fire damage 4d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4, 5, 1) + 1 = 13

Using Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Ärtival backs off and unleashes a blast of swirling colors at the ogres, but after they stand blinking for a few moments, there seems to be little effect. Roylenna sends a fiery beam that hits the ogre in the back, causing it to topple.

Ka'kara and Rhianna are up.

And no, Ka'kara wasn't in range for Lyria's channeling. She's standing at 30 feet from the start of your caravan.

Female Human Barbarian 7

The heat from the ray washes over the barbarianess and she smiles as the ogre succumbs to it's effects. Looking up and seeing the flying ogre back out of range Ka'kara turns on her heel and charges back down the path into the fray around the caravan.

Raging charge Long-spear strike (flanking with Bombur): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 2) + 16 = 23

Thinking about Lyria's running hitpoint tallies, I have decided I really like them because they help keep everything straight in a PBP. Sometimes I wonder, did that person catch that they were healed? This way it helps people not miss these things. However, maybe we could spoiler them for Robin. That way you won't see them unless you click on it. Can you resist the temptation Robin? :)

That was exactly my idea - it's quite important for me and I'll write it down anyway so I can know who needs healing the most. If no one objects, I'll spoiler it.

+1 to spoiler the running hit point totals

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Spoilering the hp total would indeed give us the best of both worlds. If Shisumo still is having computer issues, would someone please post for Rhianna?

Black Tom wrote:

I'm pretty sure Shisumo remains without access. Rhianna's best options appear to be Burning Hands, Scorching Ray, and Force Missiles. I'm pretty sure with her training, she's going to recognize the likelihood that a half-dragon is likely to shrug off her fire spells and the fellas on the ground are an issue, so...

Rhianna continues to fall back, attempting to put someone or something between her and the flying archer while maneuvering to put the two ogres (targeted by Artival) in range of her 15' cone of flame.

Burning Hands (Reflex DC 17 for half damage) 4d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 3) = 10 +2 points of damage to the one attacking Artival.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Seeyak looks with displeasure at Ka'kara skewering one of his associates after hurting himself considerably. He flies overhead and belches a gust of flame at her. 18 points of fire, Reflex vs 14 for half.

Bombur, Lyria and Mahaffy are up.

My suggestion would be MM on the flyer, anyway. We have a dearth of ranged attacks and a multitude of ways to handle the fellas on the ground. Just sayin'

Yeah, it was cast second round, so it applies here, as does your increased reach for AoO. I note that you reduced your attack bonus by one -- the spell's increase to STR makes up for the size penalty, so if you did it because of the spell, it's not necessary. Also, we have a bard's Inspire going, so both of your rolls had an additional +1. We need every point we can get, don't ya know. ;-)
