I spend most of our gaming sessions casually double checking rules as the other players do their thing just to make sure we haven't' overlooked stuff. I'm not saying it's necessary to do that, but even giving the book a full read through you can still miss completely mundane things.
You sound like approximately a killion people posting here. So I think you'll feel right at home, as many, many people didn't like where 4e was going and were overjoyed with Pathfinder.
