People have already covered most of what I can tell you from my two-weeks experience (running a Google Wave game and playing in a PBP) but let me add the following note: save the email addresses of the people that don't quite make the cut. Someone is almost guaranteed to drop out.
And now I'll go send that email to you.

Jeez.
Thus far, I've gotten thirteen emails from folks interested in playing. I'm going to keep applications open for another three or four days before cracking down on 'em and determining who's going to get in on it. I'll be selecting six individuals to start this campaign out at. While not a reserve list per se, I'll be hanging on to the other applications in case I have a few players drop out and need to shuffle in a few more. As such, those of you still interested, feel free to start writing up characters and whatnot. Point buy will be 20 points, unless people want to do it differently. Survey/Concensus?
Based on these applications, it looks like 3rd Level is going to be the name of the game here. Most folks opted between 2nd and 4th, with a few opting higher, but I'm going with the majority vote here.
Most folks seem fairly flexible with or without the Game mastery decks. I think a few people have encouraged their use, and one or two discouraged their use, so its fairly undecided at this point. What I will do, then, is use the Critical Hit and Critical Fumble decks starting out and, if players think those decks are hindering the game, then I'll pull them out. If this game lasts that long, I'll also be adding in the Plot Twist cards when they come out, at least for a few sessions. Note that I am using the rules that if you draw a critical hit card, you can decide to keep it so you can cancel out a Critical Fumble later on.
-Critical Hit cards will only be used by PCs and Major NPCs (those with three or more character classes)
-Critical Fumble cards will be used when a PC rolls a natural one on a to-hit die, and then fails to hit the target on a subsequent roll to hit (using full bonuses, base attack, etc). We'll also be using the Optional Rules for these as well, so if you have the Weapon Focus feat, you can draw two cards and decide which one applies. Greater Weapon Focus allows you to draw three.
Looks like we'll be using the Paizo boards' roll system for the most part, and I'll be doing my best to update maps using paint or whatever other program I can come up with.
As previously stated, I'll be enacting a 48-hour rule. If I need input from your character and you do not post within that time limit, I'll do it for you based on previous actions and character personality. As such, CHARACTER PERSONALITIES are going to be a required thing; I'll need you to write them out in the event you can't make the 48 hour mark. This will also be on a three-strike system: If you miss the time limit three times in a row, I'm going to start replacing you.
If you have any questions, I'd rather you asked them here so that everyone can see them and benefit from the answers, unless the question you want to ask is a little more private. Unless the folks that administrate the boards here object, we're going to try and keep things PG-13, and I'll be sure to put the disclaimer on the first post of every thread we do, as well as an appropriate tag in the title. (It'd be awesome if I could do it on the first post of every page, though, if anyone knows how to do that without hindering gameplay).

I'm not going to lie. I've heard some grim stories about trying to run online campaigns in the past, Play-by-post and chatroom oriented ones alike. As a soldier on deployment on the East side of the Atlantic, I understand times might be in a bit of a crunch and whatnot. As such, I'm interested in running a Pathfinder campaign. Not sure if I wan't to do an Adventure Path-based one or try something original (I've always wanted to do a kind of long-term excavation campaign). I'll be keeping a log/journal/blog/whatever on this as well, so if other DMs are running 'fluid' campaigns in Golarion as well, they might use material produced in said campaign (or even featured in Wayfinder, heck if I know).
Right now, though, I'm not making any promises. I'm mostly looking to see who all would be interested, what said individuals might play and their convenient schedules, as well as ideas for a campaign. Paizo does such a great job on the material they produce, so I'll likely try to keep everything using the established fluff/canon they have made thus far, while exploring bits and pieces of the unknown.
Thoughts? Should we keep it pbp? Skype? Chat?
A really good play-by-post site is Myth Weavers. Lots of participants, lots of game selection, with dice roll generators, map generators, similar BBCode tags as this site. Oh, and I believe it has character sheets and stat block generation to help the GM too.
I'm actually looking for a Pathfinder campaign to get involved in, so I hope I can find something here.

Background: The Player Characters have been hired on as part of an excavation team to investigate a series of catacombs in the desert.
For those that were curious, this will mostly be a dungeon-delve sort of thing, with an external encampment to support the players. Notice that since its not a full-fledged city or community, players may have to get by with less than adequate outside resources from time to time (or such assets will need time to get to them). As far as character wealth goes, you'll each get 3000 gp. Because of the amount, I'll be limiting folks to a single magic item (Weapon, Armor, Wonderous Item, Ring, Etc). Things like Sunrods and other items in the adventuring gear section don't really count. If you have any questions on this, let me know. With that in mind, it might be beneficial if you grab some survival gear and whatnot. Camels will be provided for you, but everything else will likely be up to you.
Officially, I haven't responded to any emails yet, but I will around Wednesday or Thursday.
Any other questions?

That sounds fun ... exploring dangerous catacombs in search of loot...erm...knowledge :)
Small recap, for character creation
- Start at level 3
- 20 point stat buy
- 3000gp start gold (max 1 magic item)
- 2 Traits
I might change the role of my character, I'll still go for rogue/shadowdancer, but I need to rethink if such a character would actually be doing this kind of "work".

Sounds like a terrific opportunity for Eroril Bazbek, a dwarven cleric seeking ancient secrets.

Background
Naseem is the child of rich archaeologists who because of their job didn't spend much time at home. His parrents had acquired a house genie who was put in charge of raising and schooling Naseem. The genie taught him of the planes and the arcane arts. He loved learning and absorbed knowledge like few, and already at an early aged he showed great talent in the arcane. His parrents decided to sent him to a magic academi to study. One day at the academy his teacher had brought an old book about local history to class. In this book Naseem read about a war legend called the Genie Lord who had once commanded thousands of genies and waged war on any who opposed him. After class Naseem was captivated with the legend of the Genie Lord, and started to search for information about him. No matter where he looked it all turned into a dead end. Only the book his teacher had contained usefull knowledge about the Genie Lord, and one night he and a friend called Meho sneaked into his teachers office and stole the book.
The book contained exactly what they where looking for; a description of the Genie Lords tomb.
Together with Meho, Naseem traveled to the place described in the book. They couldn't believe their luck when they found a plain looking unguarded tomb. As they entered the tomb they discovered that the interior was nothing like the outside entrance. The halls where lined with rows of torchholders decorated with precious metals. When they reached the Genie Lords grave they found his sarcofag in a room with several piles of gold and shelves of magic items. Extatic and filled with greed they for the treasure. Meho started filling their bags with gold, while Naseems eyes where caught by a bow in the hand of a statue. An inspection of the weapon showed it to be magical so Naseem took it. But as soon as he lifted the bow he set off a presure plate and a big loud snap could be heard. Seconds after the tomb started to tremble and fall apart around them. They rushed through the torch lined halls in search for the exit, but suddenly Meho tripped in one of the bags. Before Naseem could stop and help him the ceiling broke and fell on him, crushing his body. Devastated Naseem fled for his life. Only his qucik reflexes saved his life that day. The bow he had managed to get, he called Meho's Sting in memory of his friend, and it serves him as a reminder to never let greed overcome him again.
After the accident in the tomb he quit school and started study traps and their designs. As with wizardry he was a qucik learner. His training in wizardry proved to be an advantage for him. His fingers, trained in the tricky gesticulations certain spells required, was perfect for manipulating small items and the concentration excercises he had been taught was a much needed tool when dealing with the more dangerous kind of traps.
Recently he learned about an excavation team being put together and offered his knowledge and newly gained expertise.

Eroril Bazbek at your service. I am most honored to be considered for possible admission to this party. I offer my humble services both as a healer and historian. These catacombs hold a particular interest for me as I desire to uncover their hidden secrets and add to my knowledge of cryptic and arcane lore.

I'll change my character concept to a human wizard/loremaster.
Out here in the wilds to find that lost tomb of knowledge. For knowledge is power ...
I'll finish the character later on. Busy @ work now ;)

Eroril too, is seeking the loremaster prestige class. He welcomes a fellow seeker of knowledge.

That would be nice roleplaying material.
Divine Knowledge vs. Arcana Knowledge :)

I just had an even better idea ... should've popped into my head earlier.
Since it will be dungeon delving as in excavations, hidden relics, lost knowledge and hosts of savages guarding these treasures ... it spells Indiana Jones ...
Ohhh ... nevermind the wizard ... sorry ... I'm back to rogue ...
Sorry for the constant changes in characters ... but I've got nothing on paper yet ... so ... :P

Half-orc. Name: Nemun (no last name....yet)
Age: 22
Height: 7’3”
Weight: 237 lbs (mostly muscle)
Nemun comes from a small village, only 100 strong; 10 of the population are orc (3) or half-orc (7). His orc history is on his mother’s side, Unda Stonecleaver, with her mate being Terrance Lawburn.
As the village is so small, and accepting of his origins, he was blessed with a relatively calmer, smarter beginning than most other half-orcs. As such, he’s not as strong as most, but more intelligent.
Of the villagers, he had an extreme interest in...learning. If he found it interesting, he would take it apart (if could without eventual trouble anyways) and examine it thoroughly. Books were devoured, nooks and crannies searched (that he could get to), and several species around the village given better knowledge in the village. As such, he naturally became a wizard in his younger training. Further, this is why he is an adventurer now. Not because his town was obliterated, but rather out of the utmost desire to...find. To learn. To discover.
Within the village, his knowledge and such was a little undermined. Like his half-orc brethren, he was tasked with a great deal of the heavy lifting and loading that most of the others in the village could not (or would not) do. He is regarded, nonetheless, with a kindness due to such willingness to volunteer. Further, a good friend of his was Timothy, a young male who became an impressive Bard. Because of his profession, Numen also developed a grand taste in music.
Last names within his homestead are regarded as rewards for great (be they or good...or bad) deeds, not inheritance, save for a few. An example is his mother, Unda Stonecleaver. She was training Nemun on swordsmanship when a swing sliced a large boulder clean through. The town celebrated her strength, while she and her son kept the secret that it was an accidental rending. As such, Nemun has hoped to find a grand deed of his own to shine the most amongst the villagers.
(Note: While raised better than most, he still has the occasional desire to SMASH!)
(If the Hp or level is/seems wrong, say so, and tell me what to do right ^^; )

I just sent out a set of emails out. The folks that have received an email from me have been accepted into the campaign. If you did NOT receive an email from me, you're going to be placed in the 'reserve' list for right now. If any of the primary six (6) players fall out, I'll need one or more of you 'reservists' to step up to the plate.
Those of you who have been accepted: I'll be starting this whole thing up in the first week of March. That should give you folks roughly two weeks to finalize your characters and send them to my email address. Some of you might have linked them to this thread, but I'd rather you sent the COMPLETE character sheet (background, personality, stats, etc) to my email so I can keep them all in one location. I appreciate the interest.
