Ok, I need help building a summoner (apg)

Round 2: Summoner and Witch

I know Paizo has never really been about optimizing(treantmonk you are great at this though, but it becomes imprtant in a world were you play with people who are great at math vs. someone who is a roleplayer(aka me). I want to build a Summoner who fights right along side his eidolon. can you help me build it, or at least help with some direction. I am playing in a PFS game tomorrow, and it is with new people so i don't wantto bring a shmoe to the table.

have you taken a look at the tactical feats just after the inquisitor ? might be some nice feats there for you to use.

Are those allowed in pfs?

Shadow Lodge

Why fight alongside when you can fight above?

Half-Elf Summoner
Feats: Mounted Combat, Skill Focus(Ride)
Max out your ride skill, and learn how to use a lance as soon as you can. With a lance you can still use a shield, and the reach will help out when the Eidolon goes large(until that time, use the mount spell).

Hope that helps.

Actually, it does my ish is that I tend to favor gnomes. So it would be a while before i could get the feats for that.

This is for PFS? Any traits that would give you a ride bonus?

"Horse Lord (Qadira Faction): Your people are masters
of battling on horseback and you have mastered their
rare skill. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Ride checks and
the Ride skill is always a class skill for you."

Gnomes? Qadira welcomes you funny little gnomes. You are being so amusing to us.

Wow you guys are awesome. Thank you for all your help. I was talking with someone on my phone and they suggested that Because of my play style I should do a ranger. I think I am gonna go that direction, and get the animal companion later. I am also gonna do Treantmonks Suggestion of the switch hitter. My new question is how much is starting gold for 1st level Pcs in PFS.

You might check out Treantmonks Bard guide, the summoner has a lot in common with the bard and a lot of the same issues.

A few ideas:

  • CHA isn't really THAT important. Your spell progression is slower so you don't get bonus spells until high level. Also, you get enough uses of your Summon Monster SLA that you don't need the high CHA to bump it.
  • Grab Spell Focus (Conjuration) at first level and Augment Summoning at 1st or 3rd depending if you are human. If it isn't obvious you are going to be using Summon Monster a lot and the feat makes a huge difference.
  • Use your Summon Monster SLA the first round of almost every combat. You have enough uses you should get that extra body out there dishing damage and absorbing hits.
  • You can be a decent archer or slinger if you put some feats into it. This makes you a decent back up for your Eidolon and gives you some actions for ranged combat.
