I was scanning through traits for monster types earlier and realized something. Eidolons are outsiders, who gain normal outsider traits as far as I can tell. That means they are already proficient with all simple and martial weapons (just like aasimar and teiflings, as those traits apply unless otherwise stated).
I'm sure eidolons aren't supposed to have that trait, but as written, they do, unless I missed something that overrides it somewhere. If they are, then some evolutions are rather useless.

It's a rule everyone forgets about because it is retarded. Nonetheless, it'd be worth mentioning "Eidolons are not proficient with any weapons unless [you do a thing that makes them proficient]."
I'll agree with you there. Nonetheless, it is a rule straight out of the books, which means it needs to be addressed.

The same thing occured to me last night while statting up an Eidolon.

Isn't it usually "all critters of type X have all of this unless the critter's entry says otherwise".
Yep. And the entries never say otherwise, hence the problem. "unless says otherwise" means that you have to call out when it doesn't apply, not that it doesn't apply if it's not included.
