Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Dagobert will go with the majority on this one.

Male Human

I say let's do it.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Sure, let's catch him.

Male Human Expert 1

Good enough for me. :)

As the drow's soft boots make haste through the cavern, the party follows in close pursuit.

Skill Challenge Begins

Dagobert
Hawkseer (bloodied)
Vandis (bloodied, 2 temp hp)

Dannad
Galad (prone)

Male Halfling Rogue 2

I'm down with that.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 - Insight

Dagobert considers rats and their ways and uses that knowledge to work out which route the drow will have taken.

Male Human

Athletics
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Vandis picks up his heels and sets off in pursuit.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Galad listens closely for the sound of the drow's fleeing footsteps.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

M Eladrin Pursuing Avenger

Hawkseer dodges around the corners, attempting to avoid any difficult obstacles.

Acrobatics 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Male Halfling Rogue 2

How are we doing?

Male Human Expert 1

Dagobert deduces that he's likely heading back up top now. The river is barred and the other stream is cut off by a culvert and a sodden corpse.

With the way shown, Vandis leads the way, arms pumping as he gives chase. He turns the corner to the slave pits just in time to see the drow begin to slip down the ladder.

Hawkseer follows closely behind, barely avoiding the trail of corpses in the previous room but he keeps Vandis in sight.

Skill Update: 3 successes, 0 failures

Dannad
Galad (prone)
Dagobert

Hawkseer (bloodied)
Vandis (bloodied, 2 temp hp)

Male Deva Shaman 2

I assume I stood up at some point. Also,

Galad The Redeemed wrote:

[ooc]Perception: 1d20+10=18

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Unable to add anything physical to the chase, Dagobert invokes Sune.

"Bring us a bit of light to see him, if you don't mind."

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 - Religion. Bit of a stretch, but Dagobert is really not cut out for running.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Dannad dodges around the running steps of the larger party members, trying to keep up without getting trampled upon.

Acrobatics 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23. Or if some other skill should be used, I'll re-roll.

Male Human Expert 1

Galad, your roll was included I just forgot to add some narration for it.

Everyone finally reaches the slave pit. Galad hears the retreating drow's footsteps go up the earthen stairs to the Beggar King's lair, all sense of stealth abandoned.

Dannad forgoes the ladder, tumbling to the bottom of the pits by the river. Coming up a roll and avoiding his larger party members, he continues.

Dagobert offers up a prayer to no immediate effect.

Dagobert, this won't count as a success, but you can add +2 to any party member's roll to try and turn it into a success.

5 successes, 1 failure (forgot to include Hawkseer's low roll)

Hawkseer (bloodied)
Vandis (bloodied, 2 temp hp)
Dannad

Galad
Dagobert

Male Human

Athletics
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

OK. Will add it to Hawkseer's next roll.

M Eladrin Pursuing Avenger

Hawkseer slows slightly, doing his best to get a view of the fleeing drow without being seen in turn.

Stealth 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29

Male Human Expert 1

7 successes, 1 failure

Only need 1 more success. We'll see how Dannad or Galad do and then I'll add narration.

Male Deva Shaman 2

Not to be repetitive, but Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Vandis is getting wed and Dagobert is going to the wedding as a guest, so likely no posting from either of them for a couple of days.

Male Human Expert 1

Alright, I'm fine with a slow weekend. Everyone enjoy themselves. :)

Vandis and Hawkseer take the lead, reentering the demesne quietly but there seems to be no sign of the drow. Galad catches up shortly, however, and spots the drow cloaked in darkness in a nearby corner. His cover blown, the dark elf is at the mercy of the party.

Success! You have caught him quite soundly. Are you going to finish him off or try to coerce a surrender?

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Dagobert is no fan of unnecessary violence, but knows he doesn't have the skills needed to persuade the drow to surrender. He waits quietly.

Male Human Expert 1

Anyone else? I'll wait a few more hours, but then we'll need to move on. At that point I'll have Vandis and Hawkseer finish him off.

M Eladrin Pursuing Avenger

Just realized it's not a good week to wait on Vandis. Happy to kill.

Male Human

I'm back!

"Surrender, elf. We spare the weak." Vandis says menacingly.

Male Human Expert 1

The elf refuses amnesty and after a minor scuffle, Vandis and Hawkseer dispatch the weakened drow, who goes down with a snarl on his face.

The rest of the party soon catches up and they find themselves once more standing in the Beggar King's bed chamber.

XP:
800 XP + 50% bonus = 1200 XP
240 XP Each

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

"A pity. He had the makings of a good ratcatcher," says Dagobert thoughtfully.

"Was he carrying anything useful?"

Male Halfling Rogue 2

"Good thing his mates weren't so capable." The halfling thief comments as he examines the fallen dark elf.

Loot corpse, then back down to loot other corpses.

Male Human Expert 1

Dagobert carefully checks Drazen's body, noticing the multitude of blades and knives secreted all about his person. Aside from his weaponry, the unarmored drow had little of value on him other than several viles of strong poison that, fortunately, he didn't have time to use during the fight.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

"Tsk, tsk. Will you look at this? I'd better take care of these I think."

M Eladrin Pursuing Avenger

"Go ahead. I doubt you'd even use them on rats, though."

What loose ends do we have?

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

"Poison isn't a desirable option really. More of a last resort and only one you'd use in very specific circumstances where the layout of the lair is well-defined with good access points. What would happen in other situations is that you will end up with immune rats and this is very unpleasant indeed. Of course, once you reach that stage, there aren't too many options left. You really need to raze the building then."

Male Human Expert 1

No loose ends per se. There's still the matter of their boat, however.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

What would be needed to identify the poison?

Dannad looks at Dagobert as the dwarf takes the poison.

"Ah, but there are times when poisons can be applicable.... Though with rats I defer to your wisdom. Wonder what these'n were trying so hard to away with when we stumbled upon 'em...."

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

"Traps, more than likely. Or possibly other deterrents. We should look."

Male Human Expert 1

For the poison we'll go with thievery.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Dannad eyes a vial with some consideration as they make their way back to the boat, trying to dredge up memories from his training with the guild to identify the poison it contained.

Thievery 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 to ID it.

Male Human Expert 1

Dannad:
The vial likely contains a small amount of rare, drow poison. Not much is known about the creation of the poison but it is known to cause severe and almost instantaneous drowsiness in whoever is afflicted by it.

Back at the boat, the party now has time to investigate the cargo. Carefully tied down are 3 chests and 2 coffers that are all very heavy to lift.

The 2 knolls and the fallen eladrin all lay still nearby and have not stirred since they fell.

Male Human

Are any of these knolls grassy? ;)

Vandis searches the bodies.

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Dagobert looks doubtfully at the chests.

"Vandis, old chap, could you help out when you've finished despoiling the dead?"

Then he considers the vial of poison. "Take it if you want to Dannad. I don't think it's much use to me."

Male Human

"Shut up, dwarf."

Male Halfling Rogue 2

"Much oblidged. Think I'll 'ave more options for usin' it if it comes to it."

The thief puts the vial into a pouch on his belt.

Male Human Expert 1

Searching the bodies reveals nothing of significance on their persons. The boat continues to rock against the outgoing current, though it remains tied securely to the rocks.

M Eladrin Pursuing Avenger

Vandis, Dannad? I think you're our chest-openers

Male Halfling Rogue 2

What do these chests look like? Any locks, or just nailed shut? Also, I'm assuming the coffers have locks.... 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Perception check to look for traps before setting to work. If he notices a trap he'll stop and try to disarm it instead.

Dannad kneels beside the coffers and removes his roll of tools before setting to work on the coffers.

Thievery Checks, 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 for the first and 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27 for the second.

Male Human Expert 1

The chests are medium sized, one is unlocked but latched while the other 3 are securely locked. The coffers are smaller in size but are equally secured.

Dannad searches over everything but can find no sign of a trap anywhere.

Male Halfling Rogue 2

Guess I'll use those on the coffers as originally intended, then. 3 More thievery checks to see if I can unlock the other three chests.

After setting to work on the coffers and listening carefully, the halfling had extracted his tools after hearing the locks actuate and opened them before clambering about to get to the chests after only a cursory look at their contents.

"Oi, m' large an' quite intimidating companion, would you be so kind as to check this chest?" The halfling indicates the chest that's latched as he shifts away from it to one of the other chests, the pick he's holding with his lips muffling his words to near incomprehensibility.

3 more checks, assuming I haven't failed or sprung a trap.... Thievery on chest 1 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20, chest 2 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35, and chest 3 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22. I'm thinking 1 and 3 might not be as successful....

Male Human

Vandis smashes the latch with his sword.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Male Dwarf Invoker 2

Dagobert stands well back.
