Save Sean Bean!
Ha! That's cool. The only ones that leap out to me are the deaths in Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, some James Bond movie and Equilibrium. Clearly, I need to go to Netflix and watch some more Sean Bean movies!

Actualy have to say that season 2, episode 2 was a huge disappointment. Up to that point the show was great and loyal to the books in an admirable way. This episode though... first there were way to many pornographic elemnts to it, in a way that really disturbed the fun. Theon's scenes with the captain's daughter and with Asha (umm... Yara :P) were unpleasent enough in the books... add to that the whorehose scens and Malisandre+Stannis, that becomes overpowering.
Second (spoilers to " A Clash of Kings"):
There were some good scenes though. the Theon homecoming was well done, and the King's Landing scenes were awesome. Arya was also cool, and I am really impressed with Davos.
didn't see episode 3 yet - I hope the show gets back on track...

IMO 3rd episode this season was really good. I also think they should have taken out the whorehouse stuff from episode 2. But the scenes with Theon and Stannis/ Malsandre were important to the plot IMO.
The sex is really just hinted at in the books for the most part. HBO has decided to show it full on.

I think the sex honestly does serve well for helping explain character motivations that would otherwise be difficult to show on TV, unless they went with long voice-overs or something.
While some of the scenes are obvious T&A some very much are not. I'm not into straight sex to begin with, but Theon's turn with the captain's daughter was hardly glamorous. Nor were Dany's first few times with Drogo.
I really appreciate that we've had some gay intimacy scenes too, though I'm a bit annoyed that it's fine to see Drogo raping Dany but we don't see Loris and Renly pounding one another's asses. The camera not showing fellatio is consistent (We only see Renly's face, but as also only see Tyrion's face.) so that doesn't bother me.

Who is Asha? I haven't watched any of this season yet.
Also, who is Natalie Dormer playing? I really liked her in the Tudors (very cool series, by the way!)

The end of the episode never happened in the books.
But is strongly implied. You never read about a character seeing it, but I remember knowing that what was happening to Craster's sons, so it must be in there somewhere.

Asha - Theon's sister

I don't mind the sex and nudity at all, as long as it fits into the story and makes sense (which it has so far). Heck, that's one of the nice things about having series on HBO, Showtime etc imstead of network TV.
The one thing I've noticed is that, so far at least, there has been plenty of straight sex, along with some gay sex at least hinted at but no lesbian. I have not read the books, are there any lesbian characters or just straight characters and gay male characters?

I can think of one example from later one (I'm towards the end of book 4 atm, won't be able to talk about book 5 till the paperback hits the stands), but can't think of any characters who live a female equvalent to Renly's and Loras' relationship.
Of course sex is so tied up with the social order in Westeros that Renly and Loras mgiht both be thinking, "What we're just comrades in arms, it's not, like, gay or anything."

True, Craster does take his male babies out to the woods and offers them as sacrafices for the Others (in the TV show they are called White Walkers), however Jon never follows him out of camp and sees him do the deed. It would never make sense for such an event to happen - first, because it would be foolish of Craster to act while an army of more civilized men is at his camp - he could really just wait a couple of days and sacrafice the kid later. It's not as if the White Walkers have tight scheduals or something. Second, Craster, as he was presented both in the books and the TV show, is a very violent, over-reacting kind of guy. No reason for him not to just slit Jon's throat and leave him to die out there as well. No one will harm him for it, a fact he well knows.
The only reason they added that scene was to have a tense cliffhanger in the end of an episode (which is a semi legitemate reason, but they never did this in season 1).@marc radle: In the show, there are a couple of girl-girl sex scenes. Two I recall are 1) Dani and her handmaiden as CapeCod mentioned, and 2) when Littlefinger talks about his past while teaching two of his whores how to make love with each other in a way that will please a watching man - maybe they were quick learners, but they seemed to be enjoying it ;)
Episode three was awesome! am I right to suspect that HBO's Brienne is physically bigger than HBO's Gregor Clegane?

You know nothing, Jon Snow.
The Wight Walkers are different from the Others. The TV series just hasn't introduced the Others yet.
The end of episode 9 in season one takes place halfway through one of Arya's POV sections in the book.
Gwendoline Christie is 6'3", while Conan Stevens is an even 7' tall.
You know nothing Jon Snow. You know nothing.
(Sorry man, I had to, hope you've read far enough ahead to get the joke. *wink*)

The other reason they did it is because you can't keep the White Walkers off the screen for two years as people will forget about them. By giving them this one scene, you make people go, "Oh yeah, those guys, what's that about then?"

The White Walkers (and they are spelt 'white') are the Others and the Others are the White Walkers. They're even called 'white walkers' several times in the books as well. The term 'Others' was dropped officially because the studio feared people would go, 'other what?' and unofficially because of a faction in LOST having the same name.
The Others/White Walkers are the tall, weird-looking creatures with blue eyes and ice swords. The wights are their zombie minions (who also have blue eyes when animated). The two things are separate, though admittedly slightly confusingly named.

I was in NYC a few weeks back. Went to the HBO store. They had a buch of props from the show on display. Not replicas, but the real props used. They had Renly's Armor, the dragon eggs, Jon Snows nightwatch costume, Dany's costume, the hand of the king pin. Other stuff, too. They also had Sean Beans head on display. The prop they used in the final show last season, really well done. So yes, Sean Bean's head was in the show.
I asked one of the guys working why did'nt they have that prop on display before the show started last season. ;)

I'm a bit behind on this show; I've really just started the first season on DVD (disc 4). I hope the above post doesn't mean what I think it means . . . :(
Of course, friends that've been watching the show from the beginning have warned me not to get too close to any characters.
Dude, for real: any of them.

Regarding Meera and Jojen, if you've read the books:
However, it should be noted that the producers are VERY impressed with Natalia Tena's performance as Osha. On that basis, I can see them deciding to simply have Osha go northwards with Bran, perhaps sending Rickon off with a random northern retainer instead.

Considering that they're talking about ending season 3 with codename RW, I wouldn't be at all surprised if your spoiler is correct. I'm also assuming that unless they decide to just drop one half of the cast for most of season 4, and then the other half for season 5, they're going to have to play with Martin's timeline/POV structure a bit once they finish season 3.
Well, given how long Arya didn't wander around with Gentry, Hot Pie and Lommy, I suppose I should say mess with the structure more.

Wow, they did a whole episode without any nudity. I guess after the show before they had to tone it down a bit.
That scene with Daeny and her handmaidens talking about which dress to wear feels like a real missed opportunity.

Not a worry.

They had an extra $9 million to spend this season, which was apparently spent almost entirely on the Blackwater battle.
Well, that's supposedly the entire budget for Brannagh's 'Henry V'. If GoT can pull off a battle that is half as good as the final battle in that film, I will be impressed.

I'm not saying you're wrong Jal, but have you read the books? Whatever else you say about GRRM's writing, he does handle the dramatic twists pretty well.

There seems to be a lot of changes this season... A lot in the last episode.
What happened to Rodrik's Small Army?
I Don't remember Roose Bolton mentioning getting his Bastard son to free Winterfell, did that happen?
And I don't remember Daenerys' Dragons being Stolen, I think they are being brought to the House of the Undying and that will lead to that scene.
I don't remember Jon chasing down Ygritte, I seem to remember him letting her go.

Though I suppose after three centuries of Targaryens, such a box isn't an entirely unreasonable precaution. Maybe Ned and Robert didn't rebel until they cracked open Lyanna's box together.

Apparently the jury is still out on whether they will be introduced in a different way in Season 3 or if they're gone for good. One theory is that a random Stark loyalist takes off Rickon whilst Osha, Bran and Hodor go north together. Another is that Season 2 ends with Theon's apparent 'execution' of Bran and Rickon and then we learn they're still alive in S3, with the Reeds showing up to help them escape. This seems very unlikely, however, based on the events that have elapsed so far in S2.
"What happened to Rodrik's Small Army?"
Ditched, unfortunately. Now it looks like Ramsay will turn up to 'save' Winterfell just with his own troops in a straight fight.
"I Don't remember Roose Bolton mentioning getting his Bastard son to free Winterfell, did that happen?"
No, because in the novel Roose Bolton's army was operating separately to Robb's. In fact, around this point in the story Roose had actually captured Harrenhal and Arya was acting as his cupbearer, not Tywin's. For the TV show Roose is being shown as Robb's advisor instead (replacing the Greatjon, who's on hold for this season who should be back next year). However, there was a somewhat similar conversation between Roose and Robb in Book 3 after their armies had reunified, but in the past tense rather than the future.
"And I don't remember Daenerys' Dragons being Stolen, I think they are being brought to the House of the Undying and that will lead to that scene."
Yup, in the novel Daenerys only has five chapters. Very little happens to her in Qarth and if they'd followed the books she'd barely have been in this season, so they're introducing new storylines for her. However, they're probably still leading to (broadly) the same place.
"I don't remember Jon chasing down Ygritte, I seem to remember him letting her go."
Again, Jon only has a few chapters in the second novel and if they'd followed it closely, his story would be over already or he'd only have been in a couple of episodes. Unlike Dany (who's having new stuff brought in), the answer with Jon seems to be to bring forward some events from his Book 3 storyline instead, hence giving him and Ygritte more screent-time here.

I actually haven't read any of the books (I decided this once to allow it to unfold in a single medium). I don't doubt that Martin is adept at dramatic twists. I only meant a visually impressive battle! :)

"And I thought he'd finished with me, but then he said 'turn back around.'"
It's been twelve hours and I'm still giggling over that line. Oddly, Games of Thrones seems to be turning into the go to place to find alums of Julian Fellowes work. (Yes, I'm really hoping for Maggie Smith as the Queen of Thorns.)
