"I have been a bit nostalgic of late, missing the call of battle. The joy of Battlearmor against my flesh. The feel of victory and the pule of pure excitement that runs though my veins As I rip the armor from a Omnimech with my hands. To long have I stayed from the path of Kerensky, to long have I felt the joy of battle, to long have I waited with no trails, no battles , denying myself honor and my clan bondsmen

So I call to you warriors one and all brethren of battle, children of war to step forward and name Thy self. Clansmen, Servant of the corrupt Houses or honor less mercenary. Step forward and be named."

-Star Captain Johnathan Fletcher, 666th Mechanized Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy. Clan Hell's Horses

Oh, I'm sorry. I only play BattleRun now. ;)

"Bah, you know nothing of true battle. I would crush you beneath my heel like a sibkin crushes a Jung Beatle. Eighth world Indeed, the mindless drivel of you freebirths never fails to amaze me"

-Star Captain Johnathan Fletcher, 666th Mechanized Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy. Clan Hell's Horses

"No, warriors here? How truly disappointing Quiaff"

-Star Captain Johnathan Fletcher, 666th Mechanized Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy. Clan Hell's Horses

Terribly sorry, didn't realize you clansmen were still looking for a fight after what we gave you on your own homeworlds...

Colonel Benjamin Ravenheart, CO of the mercenary outfit known as Ravenheart's Rangers. Please to make your acquaintance Star Captain.

"A true warrior is always looking forward to and expecting a fight."

-Star Captain Johnathan Fletcher, 666th Mechanized Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy. Clan Hell's Horses

You guys have got to be kidding me. A clanner and a merc, is that the best this board can do?

Major Villian Dance, 2nd Armored Cavalry RCT, Federated Commonwealth

We should get a Mechwarrior pbp going.

Star Commander Gareth Darkstalker, 3rd Striker Star, Omega Cluster, 3rd Galaxy, Clan Coyote

I'd wait til the A Time of War comes out to see how it is.

Is that a new book, I am out of the loop I will admit. I found twilight of the clans to be a horrible read. And the fiction got worse after that. Then came this new timeline. No. This I will not do, And you will have to pull me dead from my battle armor after the trail to proof me wrong.

Aff, on the pbp, was not the intent of this however

-Star Captain Johnathan Fletcher, 666th Mechanized Assault Cluster, Beta Galaxy. Clan Hell's Horses

One another note, just how do you get a horsemen, a coyote , a merc and a fedcom in the same group? that would be an interesting tell indeed. Also when did elementals get small? I got books calling 7 and a half feet a washed out runt with one coming in a bit over 10 feet

A Time of War is the title of the newest edition of the MechWarrior RPG. So far, it's still in development with no release date, but I'm thinking they will have something by Q4 or Q1 2010.

Here's the blog entries on it:

A Time of War: The BT RPG Dilemma
A Time of War: Pushing Through

Oh, and in case you hadn't heard yet:

MechWarrior 5 in Development
MechWarrior 4 to be released for free

Never was a fan of mech warrior 3 rpg, the char creation was wonky and the d10's changed the bell curve to much for my liking. Will check out the new one at some point if they come out with it.

I got a copy of TR: 3075 and I can accept the battlearmor, but quad battlearmor? Come on guys, I can't get behind that.

"What madness do you speak of?"

My last TRO was 3058

The Rotteiler and the Word of Blake power armor.

"I am behind on my BT storyline, I lost all interest in the madness that was bulldog."

Link This is awesome.

"That indeed is the best treehouse ever built"

Ya know I have had thoughts of using shadowrun 4 as a base rule set for it.

After looking over it, really not dure I like this new time line, I really hated the darkage one anyhow...I mean just how did the WoB get that many machines and people?

House Davion through and through.

"Hanse Davion is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me shoot down CCAF troops in green pastures, he recons the enemy beside quiet waters, he restores the Federated Commonwealth. He guides us with pathfinders for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no Capellan, for the AFFC and his mercenaries are with me; your AC and your Hatchet, they comfort me. You prepare a secure LZ before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my ammo bin overflows. Surely victory and pacification will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Fox forever. Amen."
Now man your DropShips. Next stop: Sian.
---Paul Bowman, rec.games.mecha

When I have to play clan, I'll play Clan Nova Cat.

Spoiler:
Catalyst has done a pretty decent job of making it so the transition to the Dark Ages doesn't suck so much, and at leaving things open ended. Looks like Comstar might have had some Wolverine influence after the Minnisota Tribe incident. It's in the 'unconfirmed' part of the Blake Documents, but the Ghost Bears seem to think so, since they're a) working with Stone and b) conducting a Trial of Annihilation against any Wobbies they find.

And Purifiers still suck.

Whoa dude! War is not the answer. We have to learn to live in harmony with nature and with each other. Luv, man! Luv is the way.

Well, I am looking into it. I have nothing bad to say about catalyst as they have done a fine job keeping it alive. However I really hate darkage and the Over handedness of Bulldog and serpent left a bad taste in my mouth.

So count so far would be two fedcoms, a merc a coyote and a Horsemen

I love my clanner ER PPC...

In other news, the Tesla Pods will be at Gen Con this year, with updated Firestorm software that will include the 'Unseen' mechs they reacquired the rights to display. So you'll be able to fight in the 'old' Locusts, Phoenix Hawks, Warhammers and Atlases. :D

They had them at Origins, but unless they're scaled after an Atlas cockpit, I'd not fit :-(

I've developed a love of MML5 and Snubbie PPCs myself. Though nothing beats a point of Infiltrator II, though the void's a close second.

"I know I am out of the loop as I have zero Ideal what they are. Whats the Infiltrator II got over save a point of gnome or standard elemental armor?"

I've no idea either clanner. I've been out of the loop about as long as you.

"Something else, Did anyone else find the way proto-mech's look silly?"

Yes. I understand the desire to tap into certain atavistic responses, but that's just silly. It got much worse in 3075 TR.

"I really dislike how they have reshaped the clans. Look at the mechs from 3050-3058 or so, Clan mechs are functional for the most part but not "Lets make them scary" which I find outside most clansmen's mindset. Mechs are weapons of war, they should be functional not childish monsters. I am gonna guess in TRO3075 They use a great many of the Darkage mechs . If so I shall stand by the term silly"

No. 3075 is still at the start of the Jihad. Not a lot of monsterous looking Mech there. Some of the WoB omnis look pretty animalistic, and the Hells Horses have a quad omni called the Balius that looks like a horse. However, most of the Clan mech, except the protomech, are still function more than form.

Infiltrator II, standard stealth, jump 3, magshot, 1 hex ECM 6 points of armor Being able to equal or outrange most everything 'cept a Corona or Undine and can keep shooting after the clan SRMs run dry. It's like a portable SRM 4-6 that doesn't run dry.

Void Jump 4, improved stealth, 5 points armor, NC version packs a magshot as well.

Hauberks are nasty if you have a vehicle to deploy them.

Heh... Much like what's going on with Forgotten Realms now, I had chosen to stop my BattleTech at 3065 and not fiddle with the 'new' tech like snubbies and such. I'm happiest when the most advanced tech on the table is Triple Strength Myomer. ;)

I understand. I use all the tech pretty equally, but have been using a lot of 302X tech for teaching the roommate. When she's having a good day, she learns frightfully quick. We've just played a little with 3050+ tech and she won't let my battle armour anywhere near the battlefield.

She was watching while a friend and I were sparring using the open rules and her jaw dropped at the Gauss Rifle "15 points! From that far away!" :-) I think she had dreams of Gauss Rifling my battle armour.

Gauss Rifles are the best things since machine guns. 15 damage, can shoot practically across the board, and have very little heat. Ammo is the only problem.

Ammo?

Just grab a volkswagen, wad it up and load it!

:D

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Exploding Capicators are the only problem :-)

I'm strange, I like the light gauss rifle myself. slightly better range, more friendly to target computers. I've a friend who loves his RAC, which makes him cry, because he's a Drac.

Same way here, going the wizkid route is one I will not go. I think I can salvage a good setting if I start messing with the timeline about 3058 or so.

Still I have been playing with the new rule set on mega mek, It is different but not to bad. I say the new units will be added to it shortly I may check them out

The Wobbie's Jihad provides an excellent event to unite clanners, mercs, and Spheroids together.

No thank you. Clans do not even act like clans in canon any longer. Sorry if 17 clans could not overcome the IS I refuse to watch one group overrun everything.

They have pulled out more men and gear then all the great houses and all the clans. They somehow had ,who knows how many elite troops and warships "hid" everywhere. Cyber solders and ultra secret Illuminati type groups that really ran everything for hundreds of years...ugh

Then all the recons to make bad guys good guys, and make stuff work that really should not work.

I also find it odd that every single warden clan has not made a bee line for the IS. Here is what you said you we're waiting for! Then where are the crusaders? why have they not come for battle?

I find the whole thing silly

In honor of the 25th anniversay of the greatest movie of all time*, I hereby reclaim my rightful name and rank in the New Avalon Cavaliers (formerly known as Team Banzai).

If see me at GenCon, find out if you're talented enough to join our ranks (I'll be the guy with the 'badges').

Looks like it may be time to resurrect this thread.

Ya know I glanced over the new RPG and don't think Ill be buying. Char gen just looked as complex and convoluted as MW3. I was hoping it would be more like SR4 and it just seems to be kinda messy. Maybe I'm wrong

Dark Archive

I haven't had a chance to look over it yet. I thought that Mechwarrior II was the best character gen system of the three I saw.

Yeah MW2 's was pretty good. I hated MW3 for a while we ran a hacked SR system for BT or just used MW2 flaws and all.

Dark Archive

A d20 version might be nice.

Gods above no! Just no. D20 just doesn't do everything right and I really dislike it for most modern or sci-fi games. Maybe something M&M ish but other wise, no.

Dark Archive

I am not sure what other system would work. GURPS is too complicated, Tri-Stat is too simple, and everything else kind of falls along the same lines. I have never played SR 4 so I cant say about that. I just can't think of any of the (admittedly few) systems I have run into in recent years that would work.
