Free PDFs are only included with a subscription, not just a pre-order. In the case of multiple copies connected to a subscription (which you have to contact customer service to do) only the person who's account is attached to that subscription would receive access.
Thank u. That's dissaponting. I usually use the pdfs more often than the paper. I'm going to scan the full book and make my own pdf so I can use it in my notebook. A lot or work for me. It's dishearting.
One more time thank yoy for the reply.

Far more than prohibitive. We are from spain, and that's the reason one of my group ordered the four books. We want to save the more possible money for the shipping. (Shipping to europe is more expensive than the book itself)

i have heard so in this threads (also I am from Mexico so I udnerstand shipping outside US is prohibitive... specially overseas...)
my recommendation... convert one of the preorders in suscription, and since all play in the same table use the same PDF... would be less damaging than scanning your book, and I believe you all can keep it for your table...
I know its preffered by Paizo and by you all that everyone has their own suscription and own pdf... but until they can ship different suscriptions to the same address from different accounts I do believe this is a solution that works both for them and your group.

But if I Subscribe (me or another from my group), don't we be automatically forced to buy next released books? Like Bestiary and so on. We intend to buy some of the next books but when and who of us is to decide yet. Or can we cancell the subscripcion anytime?
golem101 |
There is no obligation whatsoever, you can end the subscription anytime.
Though I recommend getting at least the Bestiary with it too, as it's obviously useful having also that pdf.
As I'm from Italy I understand you worries about international shipping costs perfectly. Increased VATs have been a nasty surprise in the last months.

Not sure of the law in Spain, but in the UK/US, scanning the book, even for personal use, would be nice and illegal.
Remember that the PDFs usually cost less than the actual book (30% usually, though this one could be more). I calculate that there is about $1 difference between the subscription, and getting the book from Amazon.co.uk (with free shipping) and the PDF from Paizo...If the discount on the PDF is more than 30%, then it's cheaper to buy them separately.
Oh, that is with Pathfinder Advantage too, so it's probably even more in Paizo's favour if you don't subscribe to the AP.

We will be releasing the PDF for the Pathfinder Core RPG for a very reasonable price so please don't consider scanning it yourself. Please keep an eye out for future announcements on the PDF (including the price).
We've just announced that the PDF will be $9.99.
We recognize that overseas shipping is relatively expensive, and we hope that many of our international customers will be able to purchase the Core Rulebook from a local retailer and augment it with the PDF from us for less than you can get the book shipped from us.
However, we do hope that you'll consider subscribing to the RPG line after you get the Core Rulebook, because future books in the line won't automatically require International Priority shipping due to their weight.

This is great.
If I follow this path (which will mean tempoararily cancelling my Pathfinder RPG subscription) do you know what the likely international shipping costs of the bestiary will be? will it be a big fat book too?
In other words should I hook back on to subscription straight after the rules are out

The Bestiary weighs just over 2.5 pounds, so it will cost a *lot* less to ship internationally. The best way to find out your total is to pop a copy into your cart and begin the checkout process—you'll see the correct shipping charge before you place the order.

yep seems to be about 13.50....if shipped by itself.
But I always ship all my orders in one monthly lump, and september is a big month anyway???
I do find it hard to work out if I would be saving money on shipping even with the main rule book. I always combine for 1 monthly shipping and I will be getting my monthly shipment from paizo anyway (which will have a shipping cost of about $13 instead of about $42) but if I order it from amazon it will cost about $20 cheaper to ship on its own, then I have to pay $10 to buy the PDF (so that means it is only about $10 cheaper), and I will still be paying paizo shipment costs of $13 for that month anyway???
I think I need to go and lie down- or take a degree in shipping.

That may be the understatement of the year. That is a truly amazing price for what promises to be the year's most exciting RPG product. At least until the Bestiary is out :)

You obviously weren't around when WOTC "leaked" the core rules for 4e out to the internet. :)
But yes, $9.99 is an extremely good price... incredible since usually PDF prices suck.

We've just announced that the PDF will be $9.99.
Whoa! I hope you guys really appreciate your international subscribers, because we're effectively paying at least twice that much for the PDF. I think it's three times that much for me. I'd say have a nice pizza on me for that money, but USPS is getting it instead.
Anyway, now that is a great price. A bit more than a cup of coffee, but the advantage of this price is that it's real!
This is a one-time thing, right? Other PDFs will go back to the regular pricing model?
You might want to extend it to the bestiary, too.

We wanted to make the core rulebook as accessible as possible, so we made the PDF inexpensive. We wanted to remove obstacles for people to pick up the PDF instead of downloading it on various pirate sites. This is a one time deal for the core rulebook. The rest of our books will follow our standard pricing for Paizo PDFs.
We realize that the core rulebook is a big book and that shipping is costly for our overseas customers, so we wanted to make sure that they could have the option to buy their books locally and still get a PDF for an inexpensive price. While not free like subscribers, it is cheap enough where they wouldn't be penalized for shopping locally for the 5 pound book.

Pardon the cross-posting (from my comments on this matter in another thread on this board):
$10 is a wonderful price. I won't say amazing...more like really, really smart.
First, Paizo has figured out that, for the vast majority of gamers, PDFs and hardcopy aren't substitute goods, they're complementary goods. Which means that practically giving away the PDF will almost certainly generate more hardcopy sales than it will cost, because of the of folks that wouldn't have bothered with the PDF at $20 or $30, but do at $10, only to buy the book down the road.
Second, in some ways a PDF of an RPG's core rules are a classic loss leader. Right now, there is huge value in getting as many people playing Pathfinder RPG (and hopefully buying stuff down the road) as possible. Marketshare, mindshare, etc. In fact, I'm willing to bet that that the $10 price point represents the minimum price that Paizo felt could be charged without damaging the perceived value of the product. I'm sure they considered giving it away.
Paizo is making all the right moves. Meanwhile, I don't see how WotC can be so obtuse. The way they're running right now is a textbook case of corporate hubris, and Paizo is going to eat their lunch because of it.

Well, nearest retailer to me means a trip that already cost as much as the overseas shipping, so no way.

We are considering other options, subscribing o just buying the pdf. I'll be with an eye on the news.

I'm assuming the PF Advantage goes on this too?
That is a great price, and although it feels wrong to be buying Paizo goods from Amazon, I aint *that* picky!
That's folks!
The Pathfinder Advantage discount applies to just about everything but non-Paizo downloads, so yes, it applies to the Core Rulebook, whether in print or PDF form.

Actually, scanning the book for personal use would not be illegal in the UK nor the US, and in fact nowhere in the EU either. Same for Aussies.
Then again, 9,99$ equals to about €7,- so probably not worth the work to scan a 600 page book, make it searchable, check for errors etc.
