Bestiary Sampler at Free RPG Day?

Product Discussion

Sovereign Court

Hey, I was at the local shop yesterday and I noticed a few handouts that were being unpacked by the shop owner. At first I wasn't too interested, but then I saw the PAIZO golem near the bottom of the flyer. Investigating further, I found the Pathfinder Beastiary Sampler handouts. It's looking good! I especially liked the reworked Shadow Mastiff.

Could someone please provide a link if this has already been mentioned on the boards? Or perhaps it hasn't been officially crowed from the rooftops just yet. Either way, more information on these Samplers is wanted!

I was also at my FLGS last week and saw the little flyers for Free RPG Day on the counter. The 'Head Geek' was working, so we inquired about it. He'd just recently received his big box of free RPG Day stuff, but hadn't unpacked it yet.

My wife mentioned the problem I had with Free Comic Book Day awhile ago, by the time I made it there, all the main comic publishers stuff was gone. Fearing the worst, she asked what time they opened just in case. He got the story and said he'd happily grab one of each publisher offering from the big box of free stuff, put it in a bag and hold it for us till we could make it in on Free RPG Day.

So I've got a guaranteed copy of the Bonus Bestiary waiting for me. Plus a lot of other kewl loot.

Filled with envy!

I'm not sure if I'll be anywhere near a participating store, so I am going to order a copy.

Can't wait to see some of the promised rules crunch the product description alludes to...

We made sure to mention we were specifically looking for certain items in there.

I can't wait to dig into the BB either. It's been one of the things I've been looking forward to this summer.

So just curious, How much do you guys think the Bestiary Sampler will be selling for on Free RPG Day... and that name is SUCH a farce.

Our store, and many many many more, you have to buy the books and such. So just trying to figure out how much it will be selling for on Free RPG Day.

Ah, looking at the link for the product, it looks like it will be at least $5 this year. $5 for a free product, sounds like a deal for me. Hope they don't charge more.

No stores in my area charges. If they charge report them. The purpose of FreeRPG Day is to promote gaming and any store that doesn't embrace that deserves to be stripped of the right to participate. I know each kit cost about $65, but compared to the prospective return in sales they more than pay for themselves when gamers turn around and buy actual product related to the games featured.

At least one of the stores in my area has a minimum purchase to "earn" a free product (and can earn more than one with higher purchases). I consider that reasonable enough when business isn't booming.

~grins~ My FLGS owner was going to not do the Free RPG Day this year. Or at least he was until I agreed to go halfsies with him on the cost. $30 later and he is holding my copy of the Bestiary Sampler for me on that day PLUS now this means that other people here can enjoy it too! That is well worth the $30 spent to ensure that other people enjoy it too.

I commend you on that. When I was told it was $65 I was a little stunned myself, but the manager just passed it off. Had he made a stink about it I would have split the cost with him. I run a local game club and we do our best to help promote gaming when and where we can.

~grins~ Welllllll...... To be perfectly honest, part of it was pure greed! I wanted it ASAP! I just turned a greedy thing into a good thing. ~shrugs~ Besides, that FLGS owner is a nice guy and I can understand him not wanting to do it with the way that game stores are being hit by the economy. Hell, BOTH of the two FLGS owners have been hurt bad lately. Besides, it was only $30. A drop in the bucket but fun for others and a "free" set of good stuff for me!

It's very sweet. The employees at my local FLGS were drooling over the art.

Looks like I'll have to pre-order. No FLGS is sponsoring it. :-(

$65 for marketing to draw in a lot a gamers for one day, that will produce a couple hundred dollars in sales, is part of business. $65 is cheap for marketing. I'm just curious, do you split the costs for signage, rent, and advertising as well?

Will remember to suggest this next year to the Guardtower guys.

I'm jealous of all of you that have a FLGS. I have to drive 3.5 hours to Las Vegas or 4 hours to Salt Lake to find one of those.

They do get 144 products per case, so if it's $65, that's about 45 cents per product. I should hope that their increased sales for the day will dwarf that cost anyway.

And yes, please do report stores that are charging for the products to aldo@impressionsadv.net.

While you're at it, report the stores that are awesome!

45 cents... and to think I paid $5 for the Revenge of the Kobold King. I was so irritated I had to pay for the "free" product, that I decided to not buy anything else that day.

Just out of curiousity, does the sample include my favorite monster? It's a half-dragon fiendish dire Tyranosaur. ;-)

I'm going to have to go pick a bone with mine. Apparently Minnesota is too good for free stuff... >:(

Yeah, I am in the same boat. None of the stores in the Baton Rouge area are participating.

I was getting worried there wasn't going to be one in San Diego, until Pair-a-dice stepped up...I had talked to the owner of Artifex about it, he had said he'd look into it, but hadn't

To CHARGE for items on FREE RPG day, man I think I would have beat the owner up!!!

especially at 50cents per item....

Never been charged at Free Comic book day OR Free RPG day, if I were I'd be PISSED!!!

Next year if no one steps up I'll contact one of the local stores and pay for it myself, and keep the store copies.
