Losk Grins at Nano and continues through into the next room.

This austere octagonal chamber has a tall roof and an aerie of leering gargoyles perched atop each point where a wall meets another wall. An unholy stench of rotting meat, dried blood, and animal excrement hangs heavy in the air, no doubt from the fine crust of gore, animal carcasses, matted leaves, and guano covering the floor.

DC 36 Perception Check:
You see 3 large insect-like creatures hovering near the cieling, as you walk into the room, after a moment, one of them dives out of the air at you.

Opps, kinda naturel 20'd that stealth check, I'm using the d20srd stats for the stirge until I see the pathfinder version, if anyone knows what it will be, or if that +14 should be modified in any way, let me know!1d20+14=34

Ok, the stirge is in the bestiary preview 2....It appears it's stealth is now + 16. Mwahahahaha!

Nuveril wrinkles her nose and clucks in disgust at the smell. "Oh, this - THIS - is it! We've found it: Her Ladyship's bedchamber. Let's go back and tell Lady High-and-Mighty that we have at last found a suitable abode for her. I'll spread her silken nest myself."

Not any point in my rolling for that Perception check, as the highest I can get is a 27. Have we misplaced our ranger?

male Halfling Sorcerer

I'm not even going to bother with that perception check :) If one of them is attacking Nano after the surprise round i will use shocking grasp while casting defensively 1d20+6=7
well that's definitely a fizzle.

If they keep some range from Nano he will use his acidic ray on them
1d20+5=12
1d6=2

As the big insects suddenly swoop from the darkness Nano shrieks and mumbles some quick arcane frases

Ok peoples, the room is 35ft x 35ft at it's maximum extents so lets go for A-G left to right and 1-7 top to bottom on the linked imaged....

Please place yourselves, and roll init.

This is the surprise round, up to now no-one has noticed anything, so you two are both surprised. I'll place Losk, and roll in a little while.

It does look like Paravah is a little missing, I'll give Gavgoyle a day or so to get back to us....

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

No point rolling for Losk's perception it seems either, no naturel 20 this time....

Init: 1d20+0=4

Lost wanders into the room, wrinking his nose, stopping just before the centre, and looking around the walls (D4)

Looks like I missed it. Map

Thanks!

male Halfling Sorcerer

Nano grins at Nuverils comment about lady Almah. As he steps in to the room his nose wrinkles up at the stench. He moves toward the middle of the room.
"What is that covering the floor?" splat"aw, would you look at that. I got guano all over my sandals" he looks up at the others with a scared expression "Wait a second... isn't guano some kind of bat excrement....?"
Initiative 1d20+4=6
For my actions, see my above post. What crappy rolls for me this round btw

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Put Nuveril in C3. And then put Nano behind us two melee types, in, say, B4.

A few moments after you enter the room, a buzzing sounds from above, and 3 tiny flying instects dart from the roof space, and latch onto Losk, Nuveril and Parvenah (Succeeding if they beat your Touch AC, with 14,17,13 respectively, If the successfully attach, they drain 1 point of Con at the end of the round.)

Parvenah is got, and loses 1 point of con at the end of the suprise round...

Ok, looks like we need someone to make decisions for P for a wee while....

The map got the measles! I've placed everyone, and the three insect thingies (S) you will know about soon enough!

Parvenah init: 1d20+3=5

No chance of making that perception either....

So, Init:
Nuveril: 22
Stirges: 14
Nano: 6
Parvenah: 5
Losk: 4

Suprise round over, Nuveril!

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Crying out in disgust as the oversized insect takes hold of her, Nuveril throws down her weapons and tries to grab hold of the grasping creature with her hands.

IC is down, and I rolled a natural 20 for CMB with no proof!!! I used the WotC dice roller, and here's the text it gave me:
Roll(1d20)+0:
20,+0

"Wow! Big insects! Throw them to the ground and i'll dissolve those nasty spawns"

Ready action to shoot acidic ray at the first stirge to detach itself. I rolled for it earlier

Nuveril wrote:

Don't worry about it.

Nuveril gets a hold on the Stirge attacking her, and throws it to the ground.

While it struggles on the ground, Nano fires off an acid ray causing a burn down it's side.

The stirge immediately flies up and attempts to attack her again, getting another hold.

Nano Bristlestick wrote:

Done.

Could someone roll for P?

male Halfling Sorcerer

Parvenah grabs at the ugly bug and tries to rip it off her neck.

Used the same roller as Nuveril
Roll(1d20)+3:
13,+3
Total:16

Parvenah also manages to throw the Stirge to the floor, where it too hovers dazed, before flying up, another strike obviously on it's feeble mind.

Losk follows suit, throwing the little beasty to the ground.

Nuveril again, P and L don't take the con damage, I think Nuveril does though...

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Infuriated that the bug she just threw off has attacked her aqain, Nuveril seems to go into a boil. Her face red and her teeth clenching, she grabs once again at the offending creature.

CMB: Roll(1d20)+2:
12,+2
Total:14

This time, however, her fury makes her careless, and she fails to pull the stirge away from her.

Nuveril wrote:

Don't be so sure, it has a really low CMD.....

Nuveril again drops the insect to the ground, giving herself a momentary respite.

Safe to assume Nano readied that action again on the last round? Otherwise this will get into a very vicious circle for Nuveril!

But doesn't it get a bonus while attached, though?

Actually, assuming my grapple succeeded, I'd rather deal damage to it while grappled, if possible. If I keep throwing the thing down, it's going right back for my jugular. Unarmed strike (nonlethal): Roll(1d2)+2:

2,+2

Oh, and Rage round 2/5 used.

male Halfling Sorcerer

yeah i will ready an action
ranged touch 1d20+1=10
1d6=5
assuming there is a -4 for shooting into melee.
I will do this for one more round. After that i will aid whoever has the lowest CMB. I'm running low on acidic rays.

readied ranged touch 1d20+5=24, 1d6=3 EDIT: forgot the -4

Aid another CMB1d20-2=3

As far as I can see it's CMD is 10 + 1(BAB) -3 (Str is 3) +4 (dex is 19) -2 for being tiny = 10. The stat line entry says 9.

Added to that, which I keep forgetting about, is the +8 racial mod when it is attached, so it's CMD should be 18, in which case you failed it....
That probably means that Losk and P should have stayed grappled, but I don't want to retcon it back that far.....it shouldn't make a difference at this point.
Meaning we don't need to worry about Nano and his readied action, he can keep the Ray, and aid someone instead....
Phew!

So, the stirges, the one attached to Nuveril does nothing but maintain it's grapple, the other two fly at their previous targets. The one attacking Losk latches on again, but the Parvenah manages to dodge hers.

1d20+7=21, 1d20+7=10

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Sorry -- with the readied actions and such, I've completely lost track of where we are in initiative order right now. Whose turn is it?

With my bit of retconning, I think it's best if we go with Nano, he comes right after the stirges, and although he thinks he's had his action, I just retctonned it out......

Nano Bristlestick wrote:

...

Aid another CMB1d20-2=3 [/ooc]

EDIT: Since Nuveril is raging, Losk has the lowest CMB at +1; however, even if I'm wrong, Nano missed his Aid Another check, so....

Nano ineffectually grasps at the stirge attacked to the cleric but is unable to get ahold of the fleshy wings.

And here's Parvenah.

The ranger takes a swipe at the insect that tried to land on her, but it easily dodges her scimitar's swing.

Attack (1d20+3=8)

Up to Losk!

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Dropping his axe, Losk returns the grapple of the creature, bear hugging ut until you hear the carapace begin to crack.

1d20+1=21

1d3+1=3

It's not dead, but it's not inflicting con damage either...Nuveril

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Snarling with anger, Nuveril tries once again to snatch away the stirge on her but in her haste fails to get a good hold on it.

CMB (1d20+2=9)

Rage round 3/5

Btw, did she lose another Con point in round 2?

male Halfling Sorcerer

If i used shocking grasp on an attached stirge, would i also hurt the person it's attached to?
If not

Nano mumbles some quick arcane phrases and sparks starts shooting from his fingertips. He lurches forward and grasp the big insect sending electric energy through it's body.
Melee touch 1d20+5=17, 1d6=3

Nuveril wrote:

If you haven't beaten it in a grapple since it last buzzed back to you, yes....

I'm voting No...and with that, the insect gives out one final buzz, as it's wings flutter violently, and then it drops to the floor, one leg still attached to Nuveril

No time to work out the other stirges actions....will do later on and post again.

So, yeah, almighty, days long brain fart.....

The stirge attached to P stays that way, the other continue withing Losk's grasp, eventually re-attaching it's barbs...

male Halfling Sorcerer

Parvenah rips the stirge from her body.
1d20+3=19

Nano seizes the opportunity and quickly gather his magical energies to bring forth a ray of acid.

Ranged touch 1d20+5=20, 1d6=4

The boards just got better...

Let me re-iterate though that I don't require proof of dice rolls, I trust you all to do the right thing!

With the efforts of Parvenah and Nano, another stirge shrivels up.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Getting infuriated with the beast losk decides enough is enough and brings his axe to bear.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

But doesn't manage to hit the blasted thing...

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Nuveril rips the barbs of the limp insect off her person and looks around wildly for more. Seeing only the one Losk is struggling with, however, she snorts out a half-chuckle and collapses onto the ground to enjoy the show.

Rage ends, fatigued for 4 rounds, at the end of which she'll give in and help out Losk if the rest of the party hasn't taken care of the stirge by then.

male Halfling Sorcerer

i'm not sure it's a new round yet, but on his turn Nano will aid another with the last stirge.
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (7) - 2 = 5
Well.. he tried.

It'll have flown off by then. Actually, that's a good point. Must work out how many rounds they've been attached to each person, and how much con damage they've done..... Specifically this one, if it's nearly full, it becomes a whole new game....

Ok, I think this is round three or four. Which makes for the point at which the point at which this stirge gets full (as it's been on Losk pretty much from the start I think.) So, Losk is down 4 con, and 8HP, which with the 1 HP down he was to start with puts him on 1HP....

Urk.... His next action will be a healing surge me thinks!

That also means that P and Nuveril are down 3 Con, and 6HP I think.....

The stirge detaches and flies lazily away, making an easy target for anyone with a ranged weapon to take out, so. End of the worst run combat in the history of these boards.....

So Everyone recover 1d6+1 HP.

Now, how does the con recovery work? Do we have anything to regain it ,or are we in an uncomfortable position for a good while?

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

As the stirge finally gains it's fill and flies up away from Losk, he staggers to the ground, breathing heavily he slowly recovers himself and calls again to his goddess from his knees. His prayer is answered as a surge of energy swells within the room, accompanied by the glow of the sun through the glass in the dome above.

(1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 for Losk)

male Halfling Sorcerer

"Are you guys okay? Look, i know a lot of people is against this, but i have something that will give you a little more health for a short period. It will allso make your head a little 'whoo', but that is half the experience" Nano says with a grin, pulling out his pipe and a small box with some pesh whey in it.
Pesh whey will give you 1 temporary hp at the penalty of -2 to wisdom for an hour (p.21 Dark markets: a guide to katapesh). That's all i got.
I now understand what Joana was talking about when she said stirges are a pain in the ass

male Halfling Sorcerer

I'm going away for the weekend, but will be back sunday night.

Ok. So stirges defeated, we are still in A10, and have a map like This.

Everyone gains 150Xp for getting rid of the stirges, the damn foul things.

For anyone who feels up to it:

Perception DC5:
Strewn about the floor are 43 gp worth of loose coins, a chime of opening, and a fine silver bowl worth 75 gp

Perception DC18:
There is apparently a secret door in the Northwest wall...

Oh, and don't forget that channel energy to get some hit points back.

Nevynxxx wrote:

Reading through the glossery and the section on Stat damage, I think I worked this out exactly wrong. I think Losk will be 2HP down (4 Con => -2 penalty -2*1HD = -2HP) and the rest of you will be down 1HP (-3con => -1 stat mod => -1*1HD = -1HP)

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Losk shifts from his knees to his arse, and sits panting. Taking time to thank his Goddess over and over, while the others likewise recover.

"Well folks, that wasn'e the easiest task in the world. I truely hope I never see one of them things again.
"Where do we go next?"

male Halfling Sorcerer

Perception for nano and parvenah
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

"I think we should check out the last part of this upper section and then head down under"

male Halfling Sorcerer

Nano is too busy with his pesh, but parvenah crouch and starts following a crack in the wall with her finger.

"Hey what have you got there, Parh? Oooh, a secret door. Let's check it out"

One annoying thing about the new dice roller is that you have to post to be able to see your result. That way you are unable to change your actions depending on the dice result.

Nano Bristlestick wrote:

Hmm, I can see it if I hit preview....

Behind the secret door....

Anyone want to open it?

male Halfling Sorcerer

Aaah... Clever.
Thanks

”Keep your weapons ready, guys. We don't want to get half eaten by a mosquito again, do we?” He says with a wink.
He stands beside the door and open it with an outstretched arm, so his body is not in the door opening.

Female Halfling Barbarian (superstitious) 7 | hp 72/72 (86/86 raging)

Perception (1d20+7=27)

Positive energy (1d6+1=6)

Exhaling heavily, Nuveril gets back to her feet, kicking aside a silver bowl that her toe touched. "Junk," she mutters.

Parvenah moves quickly to retrive the bowl before it can be dented, also gathering up the coins and the unusual chime. "Friend dwarf," she addresses Losk, holding up the chime for his and Nano's perusal, "does this item serve some ritual purpose in your faith?"

Detect magic if you got it, boys; I have the feeling this is going to come in handy since we lost Jaken.

Nuveril, uninterested, approaches the secret door curiously, her weapons at the ready.

Unless we run across some potions of lesser restoration, looks like we're going to have to camp out here a few days to heal our ability damage naturally ... unless that cleric with Lady Almah is high enough level to cast it. Either way, we have to clear this place out first.

male Halfling Sorcerer

Nano holds his hand about an inch from the chime and concentrates.

"It certainly has some kind of magical aura around it. I think is is some sort of magical universal key. It should come in handy. If you don't mind, i would like to study it a bit. I have a thing for magical items, you see." Nano says, giving Nuveril a charming please-smile.

i'm not sure about the rules for identifying magic items, but since Nevynxxx wrote what it was, i assume Nano is able to identify it.

Nuveril wrote:
